Lydia Yamina Segundo
- Producer
Lydia Yamina Segundo is a broadcasting media, film, marketing-public relations, music professional and entrepreneur from the U.S.A. with a wealth of international experience. She was born and raised in the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to families of Spanish, Philippine, French and Italian ancestry who settled there in the 19th Century under Royal Decree of Graces. Segundo received bi-lingual Elementary and High School education (English-Spanish) at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Mayaguez, PR. Her father was an airline marketing executive and US Army Vet thus she traveled and developed appreciation for the arts and humanities she learned in school. As a typical teen she enjoyed performing ballet, tap dancing, painting, swimming, photographing the stunning beauty of the tropics and modeling.
In 1985, Lydia Segundo graduated Bachelors in Art of Communications for Broadcasting media (TV, Radio, Journalism) in the Sacred Heart University in San Juan and continued education workshops in film making and accounting. In 1988, her career entry came to a halt with the birth of her newborn baby girl.
In 1990, she kicked off her career in Teleonce channel 11 and the following year was hired by Telemundo WKAQ Channel 2, the leading Spanish-language television network in the USA, as Public Relations Coordinator. Her public relations and marketing campaigns supported the airtime sales and content ratings for dramas, mini-series, films made for TV, live-events, news and variety shows. These executions produced valuable editorial content and strengthened relations with industry decision-makers, producers and celebrities. She also produced and directed live TV shows, events, on-air promos, commercial spots and won community awards from the Red Cross and the Chamber of Commerce. Lydia Yamina became curator of the "Telemundo Gallery" an art development program sponsored by the TV station to support emerging fine artists.
In 1994, Segundo was appointed Communications Director of the United Way of America in Puerto Rico. She developed strategies and implemented marketing-pr tactics to support fund raise campaign teams and board of governors committees to reach goals in the $10+mm, produced materials for the payroll deduction tours among USA Section 936 major industries, manufacturers and contractors operating in the Island. She was community advocate in Senate hearings, town-hall meetings, television forums, produced campaign films and public service TV ads. In 1995, the national United Way of America awarded her institutional campaign with first and third place in color photography at the Communications Contest in San Diego, CA.
From there, Segundo enrolled in the University of Stirling, Scotland, to study a Masters in International Public Relations. She moved to New York City in 1996 but continued to visit Europe where she freelanced for film producers in the UK, the Italian designer Domitilla-Roma and a media company in Rome. While seeking for stable employment to remain in the big apple, she settled for a senior executive assistant position with the French capital markets firm Banque Paribas (BNP Paribas) with the Latin American Research team, where she was trained in investment products, equity, fixed income sales, economy plus French courses with the NY Alliance Francaise. The environment on the trading floor was intellectually and financially rewarding, but the nostalgia of being away of the media environment encouraged Lydia to pursue a role with major studios.
Meanwhile in 1998, she freelanced and temped in flagship advertising agencies such as Bozell, FCB, J. Walter Thompson; bridal fashion trade show Independent Visions CE; ballroom dancing competition production All Star Entertainment; record labels Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music/Seagram; DVD video distribution CBS/Fox Video. Between jobs she trained in ballet and tap in the City Center studios, socialized and networked everywhere. Later that year she was hired by CBS Television Network in the Manhattan headquarters with the Production Music Operations Group of the Entertainment Division, as Promotion Music Coordinator. From there she held various production music management posts during the first Viacom/CBS merge, the CBS Corp. split and the CBS-Paramount Television franchise in New York and Los Angeles until 2010.
