The 65th Annual Drama Desk Awards honoring the best in New York theater were announced Saturday night, with The Inheritance being named Outstanding Play and A Strange Loop taking the trophy for Outstanding Musical.
The remote ceremony was hosted by Frank Dilella. Normally, the awards are announced at a gathering of theater artists and critics in New York City. But this year, the gathering was replaced by a pre-recorded ceremony because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The awards show had initially been scheduled to air May 31, but was postponed due to the Black Lives Matter protests in New York City.
Tonight’s ceremony aired on NY1 and streamed on NY1.com and DramaDeskAwards.com. The Drama Desk Awards recipients were decided by theater critics, journalists, editors and publishers covering theater. Read the complete list of winners below.

American Showstoppers - featuring Fred Barton amp His Orchestra and starring a cast of today's best Broadway performers - will present An Evening with Cole Porter at Pace University's Schimmel Center in New York on Friday, March 4 at 730 Pm and then Kingsborough Community College's Goldstein Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, March 5 at 800 Pm. Terrence Mann, currently starring in Pippin, will perform at a benefit for the children of Ms 54 - The Booker T. Washington School on Monday, May 19th, at 630pm in the school's auditorium. Comedian Judy Gold will host the event, with music direction by Joe Bachana. Brigid Brady The Phantom of the Opera, Paula Leggett Chase Bye Bye Birdie, Lauri Landry The Scarlet Pimpernel and George Merrick South Pacific are scheduled to appear. In addition, Ms 54 parent-performers are to include Marc Bernstein, Nathan Carver, Rob Derke, L. J. Ganser, Lisa Tamagini, Maren Waxenberg and Sarah Worthington. Ms 54 is a public middle school on West 108th Street, which serves some 825 children.

Broadway stage actress Paula Leggett Chase has been working with middle and high school students at the Leman Manhattan Preparatory School in Lower Manhattan as they prepare for the school's spring production of Damn Yankees.
