William "Willie" Frank Long was married to actress Alberta Rose Long,
mother of Academy Award Winner for Best Sound on The Deer Hunter,
Richard Portman. Long went by W. Frank Long in his later years, but
his friends in his military life remember him as "Willie". Frank, was a
Technical Sargent in the First Special Service Force or "FSSF". The
unit was best known as the hit movie title implies as "The Devil's
Brigade" (1968).
One of several passions, Frank was a renowned leather craftsman. And to
help support his church in the '70s Frank became a bus driver for "Our
Lady of Perpetual Help Church and School" located in Scottsdale, Arizona.
While driving the bus he and his wife took in their two oldest
grandkids Lee F. and Robert H.
Upon his death, Father Eugene Maguire from OLPH came out of retirement
to preside at Long's funeral.
