Exclusive: London-based Alliance Media Partners (Amp) has hired Anthony Buckner as Head of Sales, Acquisitions and Distribution in the run up to the Cannes market.
Former Icon and Kaleidoscope exec Buckner will be overseeing the company’s Cannes slate of genre titles and will be tasked with expansion. He is taking over from longtime Amp partner and sales vet James Norrie who has exited the company.
Amp, founded in 2017 as a production, financing and sales company, is the media arm of Alliance Capital Partners group, a private asset management and finance company based in Dubai. Current titles include The Morrigan with Toby Stephens and sci fi thriller New Life.
Buckner has sold movies including The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, How I Spent My summer Vacation, Coriolanus, Prevenge, Hurricane and Creation Stories.

Exclusive: Former Universal Pictures Distribution and Marketing EVP John C. Hall has joined the team at American-European media fund Apx Group, as it continues to restructure and expand ahead of a planned listing on the New York Stock Exchange later this year.
Hall has been appointed special consultant to the Board of Directors and Head of the Marketing and Distribution Committee of the board of directors of Apx Group.
The Los Angeles-based executive will work directly with Apx Group’s London-based Global CEO, Shelley Hammond and the freshly announced Director of Distribution and Acquisition Anthony Buckner.

Exclusive: American-European media fund Apx Group has appointed film industry veteran Anthony Buckner as Director of Film and Television Distribution and Acquisition, to head up a new department created as it continues its international expansion drive.
This new department will operate from Apx Group’s head office in Twickenham Film Studios in London, with Buckner working alongside CEO Shelley Hammond, who also heads up its UK production subsidiary Herd International Productions.
Buckner was previously Head of Sales at Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey’s Icon Entertainment International and then Kaleidoscope Film Distribution and has also worked with companies such as Magnolia Pictures and Gfm Films. In 2021, he launched his own company Buckstop Films.

Middle East distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment has announced the acquisition of 24 titles from last month’s Cannes Marche, including Oscar-nominated Denis Gamze Erguven’s Kings, which stars Halle Berry and was one of the most buzzed about projects of the market.
It was among a trio of titles acquired with Beirut-based Teleview International from Wild Bunch offshoot Insiders, alongside David Robert Mitchell La-set crime thriller Under The Silver Lake, starring Dakota Johnson and Andrew Garfield; and Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here, starring Joaquin Phoenix as a war veteran who tries to save women trapped in the world of sex trafficking.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution (Kfd) has struck a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures for all UK rights to completed animation Top Cat Begins.
The film traces the origins of the classic Hanna-Barbera characters, revealing how the group of alley cats got together. Voice talent includes Jason Harris (Rio 2) and Chris Edgerly (Happy Feet).
The deal was brokered by Anthony Buckner at Kfd for a summer 2016 release.
Kfd recently concluded deals on the film for Australia & New Zealand (Transmission Films), Middle East (Shooting Stars), Turkey (Sinema TV), Ex-Yugoslavia (2i Film) and Portugal (Cinemundo).
“The UK is a key territory for Top Cat Begins and we are extremely excited to be working with a company with the pedigree of Warner Bros,” said Buckner.
Director is Andres Couturier, producers are Fernando de Fuentes and Jose C. Garcia de Letona.
Top Cat: The Movie took $4.5m at the UK box office in 2011.

Toronto -- A month after he joined Canadian indie distributor D Films as chairman of the board, Darryl Iwai is back in business with Icon U.K. Group's Stewart Till (Hr, June 9).
As part of a multi-year agreement unveiled Thursday, D Films will start releasing five to six Icon titles annually, before increasing the number to six to eight films a year.
And Till, who worked with Iwai at PolyGram and Signpost, will join the board of D Films as the Toronto-based boutique distributor raises its game in the local market with the Icon deal.
"Darryl and Jim (Sherry's) track record as premier film executives will ensure that D Films will quickly become a significant and impressive distributor in Canada. We are very happy to entrust our films to them," Till said in a statement.
The Canadian deal marks another international step for Till after he acquired the U.K.
