Christian Slater, Christopher Briney, Josh Radnor, Dagmara Dominczyk and more have joined the lineup of actors participating in The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway.
The annual event sees actors, writers, directors and production staff coming together on the night of Oct. 22 for a brainstorming session. The writers create the plays overnight and then the cast comes back together on Oct. 23 to rehearse ahead of the performance that evening. This year’s event will take place at The Town Hall and will honor playwright and former Law & Order: Svu showrunner Warren Leight, who has been a longtime supporter of the organization.
“Simply put, this promises to be an unforgettable evening,” said Artistic Director Mark Armstrong. “Warren is an extraordinary artist who’s spent his career lifting up others, so it’s no surprise that a long list of great artists have stepped up to celebrate him, on and offstage. He’s been...

Whether you’re looking to make connections in the theater community or just grab a drink with fellow thespians, the Naked Angels’ Tuesdays@9 may be the best-kept secret in both New York and L.A. “I don’t tell other actors about this,” said Nathaniel Moore, a regular participant in the weekly cold reading series. “This is my acting class.” Tuesdays@9 originally began in 1991 when Naked Angels playwrights Frank Pugliese and Pippin Parker wanted to create something in response to the Gulf War. Honoring a weekly deadline, they gathered members of the theater company to share new pages and perform them aloud. Twenty-three years later, the endeavor has turned Manhattan’s Theatre 80 and L.A.’s Atwater Village Theatre into weekly watering holes for community-oriented artists. Equal parts new play development, free networking event, and happy hour, Tuesdays@9 embodies a commitment to inclusivity that may prove hard to find in a big city.

Naked Angels will soon have a new outpost in Manhattan. The theater company is perhaps best...

Like many who go to graduate school, playwright Jon Robin Baitz has found his passion for his craft renewed, reinvigorated, and refocused. Fortunately for Bob LuPone, the director of the New School for Drama in New York, Baitz's students have found the same things."For younger artists and younger writers to be committed as they are here, I find I get much more out of it than they probably do," Baitz said Friday night, as the reigning distinguished artist in residence at the New School fielded questions from LuPone and about 50 students at a town hall–style meeting. Topics included the rewriting process, Baitz's experience in film and television, and his relationship with actors.Speaking just before the event, he explained how he came to be at the school: "I left L.A., where I had been, where I had created and was running this television show which was pulling...

Original New York cast members Jeremy Beck, Mike Doyle (Law and Order: Svu), Sevan Greene and Waleed F. Zuaiter head the cast under the guidance of original director Pippin Parker when L.A. Theatre Works presents the West Coast premiere of Betrayed, the haunting new play by award winning writer and journalist George Packer. Five performances take place February 18-22 at the Skirball Cultural Center where they will be recorded to air on Latw's nationally syndicated public radio theater series, The Play's The Thing. In early 2007, George Packer published an article in The New Yorker about Iraqi interpreters who jeopardized their lives on behalf of the Americans in Iraq, yet were provided with little or no U.S. protection or security. The article drew national attention to the humanitarian crisis and moral scandal. Based on Mr. Packer's interviews in Baghdad, Betrayed tells the story of three young Iraqis - two...
