Neil's legal career began as a litigator focusing on copyright and publicity rights disputes and he draws on that experience in counseling clients about intellectual property rights and in contract negotiations.
Neil has been listed in Super Lawyers New York Metro edition since 2006. He is a member of the Copyright and Literary Property Committee of the New York City Bar Association and was formerly Co-Chairman of the Copyright and Trademark Committee of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section (EASL) of the New York State Bar Association. He is a member of the Copyright Society and counsel to BAFTA East Coast.
Neil is a frequent author and lecturer. He wrote The Practical Guide to Libel Law and has co-written the "Entertainment Law" column for the New York Law Journal with partner Michael Rudell since 2005. Many of his articles can be found in the News/Articles section of this website.
Neil taught entertainment law for seven years as an adjunct at New York University School of Law and regularly teaches a legal workshop at DCTV. He has spoken before many legal and professional groups including CMJ Music Marathon, National Association of Broadcasters, Dramatists Guild, Association of Authors' Representatives and EASL. Neil's views on copyright and libel law have been cited in New York Magazine, Business Week, the Los Angeles Times and other publications.
