He worked part-time at a radio station in high school before becoming an announcer and DJ. Unable to afford college, he began a TV career that eventually took him to Toronto. There he met Peter Jennings, who later served as the anchor of ABC's "World News Tonight." When Jennings moved to ABC, he helped Dunsmore get a job there.
