- On 22 November 1963, he was riding with Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson in the motorcade in Dallas, Texas, when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. In the famous photograph taken aboard Air Force One, when Johnson was sworn in as president, Brooks is standing directly behind Jacqueline Kennedy.
