Alecia Dixon-Kurschner, a TV distribution executive who held senior positions at MGM, Miramax and Starz before becoming an independent consultant several years ago, died of ovarian cancer at her home in the Minneapolis suburb of Excelsior, Minnesota, Nov. 23. She was 60.
Her death was announced by her husband Dale Kurschner, who noted that she passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
“Everyone that had the pleasure of knowing or working with Alecia is heartbroken over her death,” said Simon Sutton, former President & Cro of HBO and to whom Dixon-Kurschner reported while both worked at MGM. “Alecia was much more than a valued executive, she was also an irreplaceable friend.”
Dixon-Kurschner was born May 10, 1963, in San Francisco and was raised in Troy, Michigan. After graduating from UCLA in 1987, she began her entertainment career at The Cannon Group, starting out as an Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer.

Late to the game, but still somewhat curious, Hollywood has slowly been integrating the phenomenon of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women into television storylines in recent years. Naturally, the industry has latched onto this long-unfolding tragedy in its usual way: Making Mmiw a secondary storyline within the development of a white protagonist.
I’m firmly in the “something is generally better than nothing” camp, but I would never say that shows like Big Sky, Dexter: New Blood, Alaska Daily or Three Pines were even fleetingly About Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. They namecheck a trend.
Showtime’s new docuseries Murder in Big Horn is actually about Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (often extended to include “and Girls”) and, as such, it’s important. Directors Razelle Benally, an Indigenous filmmaker who identifies as Oglala Lakota/Diné, and Matthew Galkin (Showtime’s Murder in the Bayou) endeavor to give names and faces...

Their stories are achingly similar. A young Native American woman goes to a house party, or drinks with friends, or just ventures out into the Montana night. She doesn’t come home. Law enforcement, after untangling questions of jurisdiction, conducts a search. Sometimes the bodies are recovered, the cause of death chalked up as “hypothermia.” Sometimes they’re never found at all.

Conan O'Brien, one of an entire generation of comics and writers inspired by Garry Shandling and a close friend of the Larry Sanders Show great, paid tribute to the late comedian on Conan just hours after Shandling's death at the age of 66. "This is a devastating shock to me and to just about everybody I know," O'Brien said. "I've had about three hours now to process that Garry is gone and this just doesn't seem real still, and I don't know when it will."

Conan O'Brien recently ventured to Qatar to bring his late-night show to U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East. While there, the host performed a rendition of the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" alongside Grace Potter and a band of service members. Their full version of the Elephant opener, which featured new lyrics written by O'Brien to fit the audience, wasn't broadcast on Conan, but the show did provide the whole performance as a web exclusive.

Abe Vigoda is known for his role as detective Phil Fish in Barney Miller, but the late actor also made regular appearances on NBC's Late Night with Conan O'Brien. On Tuesday's Conan, host Conan O'Brien and writer Andy Richter took a moment to honor Vigoda, who died in his sleep that morning, in a touching tribute video compiled from several clips of Vigoda's Late Night work. "I have to acknowledge to our longtime viewers, people that have been watching us for 22 years or 23 years, Abe was a huge part of our show in New York," said O'Brien, 52. "I...

While Abe Vigoda was known largely for his roles in The Godfather and Barney Miller, a whole generation was familiar with the late character actor thanks to his frequent, always hilarious cameo appearances on Late Night With Conan O'Brien. On Tuesday night's Conan, the host remembered the actor who was always a highlight of Late Night.

For almost 18 years, from the 1993 debut of Late Night With Conan O'Brien until the bitter end of O'Brien's The Tonight Show run in 2010, drummer Max Weinberg was a constant presence alongside the late night host – at least when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band weren't on tour.
However, Weinberg chose not to join Conan as it jumped to TBS, and the Max Weinberg 7 became Jimmy Vivino and the Basic Cable Band. That is, until Tuesday night, as the late-night host and his former band leader reunited for...

Twenty years ago tomorrow, the cold open to the very first episode of NBC's Late Night With Conan O'Brien ended with a sunny, smiling O'Brien stepping on a chair and matter-of-factly slipping a noose around his neck. The literal gallows humor was appropriate: Prior to that first episode, TV-industry insiders had almost universally been predicting that the former writer for The Simpsons and Saturday Night Live would fall flat on his face, joining Chevy Chase and Alan Thicke in the Failed-Talk-Show-Host Hall of Shame. Here's how bad O'Brien's pre-launch buzz was: Entertainment Weekly found a way to trash his version of Late Night before it even premiered. After sneaking a reporter into one of O'Brien's test shows, the magazine published a merciless critique of that outing under the headline "Conan the Unbearable?" that complained, "Uncomfortably shifting from side to side, O'Brien got the dry...

Louis C.K. got one of his first major breaks as a writer for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," and in this interview recently unearthed by the Paley Center for Media, he reveals a penchant for innovativeness that would not be fully formed until nearly two decades later.
O'Brien had to create a show from the ground up when inherited "Late Night" from David Letterman, and he and Robert Smigel, the show's first head writer, were smart enough to hire C.K., who was already known as a killer stand-up comedian. Early on, C.K.'s role was as the head monologue writer for the show, which may seem odd considering the traditional confines of a talk show monologue and C.K.'s reputation for creativity.

Conan O'Brien promised that if Comedy Central's "Night of Too Many Stars" raises $100,000 by Sunday night when the event airs, he'll do his show on Monday completely orange. He's not above these kind of stunts: He did a whole show wearing jeggings in 2010.
Although O'Brien's talk show is on TBS, not Comedy Central, the biannual benefit show is near and dear to O'Brien's heart. Louis Ck has credited writing for Late Night with Conan O'Brien with teaching him how to be a comedian. The comic wrote for O'Brien's NBC series in its infancy, teaming with Robert Smigel and Dino Stamatopoulos to pen many of the show's early sketches. Louis Ck revealed in an interview with writer Jonah Weiner that his first major decision was to lighten the tone of Late Night's first-ever opening sketch, which spoofed the pressure Conan O'Brien was under to replace David Letterman. He explained: "[Conan] told me he was going to put a gun in his mouth [at the end of the sketch], and I was the new guy, and I said, 'Are you really going to do that?' and they were like, 'You think that's too dark?' and I said, 'You can't do that, that's vicious, that's really (more)...

On Wednesday night, Conan O'Brien returned to NBC for the first time since he abruptly left the network in February 2010. Fittingly, O'Brien dropped into 30 Rock to visit "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," the franchise he vacated in order to host "The Tonight Show" for seven months, and picked up something he "left in the couch" -- a puppet of Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog.
Although O'Brien's production company sold a short-lived drama to NBC and he appeared briefly on a "Saturday Night Live" retrospective, this marks the first time he has made a live appearance, and certainly the first time he referenced his departure from the network.
On his new show "Conan," O'Brien is forbidden from mentioning Triumph, along with other intellectual property from "Late Night" and "The Tonight Show," as part of the terms of his separation from NBC.

Conan O'Brien made a surprise appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night. The comedian arrived unannounced at the NBC studio where he hosted Late Night with Conan O'Brien for 16 years, prompting huge cheers from the audience. Exclusive: Adult Swim has picked up a second season of the live-action comedy Eagleheart, starring Chris Elliott. The quarter-hour series, a parody of butt-kicking crime dramas like Walker, Texas Ranger, hails from Conan O'Brien's Conaco Prods. It was set up while O'Brien and Conaco were still based at NBC but now represents nice synergy between Time Warner entities. Elliott is set to return as U.S. Marshal Chris Monsanto, who blindly kicks, punches and shoots his way to what may or may not be a legitimate solution to his case, along with co-stars Brett Gelman and Maria Thayer as his sidekicks Brett and Susie. Eagleheart, which premiered Feb. 3 at midnight, was No. 1 in its time slot among adults/men 18-34 and 18-49, and it ranked as basic cable's No. 1 sitcom in the men 18-34 and men 18-49 demos. The series was created by former Late Night With Conan O'Brien...

No late night show was or is complete without a great soundtrack and 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien' was no different.
With the E Street Band's drummer, "Mighty" Max Weinberg as the musical director and band leader, the show had a lot of credibility to attract the biggest names in music. O'Brien (a devout music lover and guitar player in his own right) took full advantage of that to create some memorable music moments, including devoting full weeks to artists like Neil Young and the White Stripes.
And he looks to bring some of that music magic to 'Conan,' as proven by his performance with Jack White on his new TBS show's premiere episode.
As we welcome Conan back to TV, we remember the greatest musical moments from his 'Late Night' history.

As a writer on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien,' Brian Kiley used to share an office with the Masturbating Bear. It was disconcerting, he told us, to try write monologue jokes while sitting across the desk from a guy in a bear suit wearing a diaper.
Times have changed for Kiley and the Masturbating Bear. First, O'Brien moved from 'Late Night' to 'The Tonight Show,' bringing Kiley, but not the Bear, with him. Then Conan was dumped from 'The Tonight Show' in a controversial move by NBC, and he and his staff found themselves homeless, just months after hauling their entire operation across the country from New York to California.
But now Conan is back on TBS with a new late night show simply titled 'Conan,' and Kiley is, too.

After countless promos (I would give Godtopus' right-most tentacle to be that desk) and viral marketing gimmicks, Conan O'Brien's new show on TBS looks to be amazing, except for one lingering doubt. What about poor, lovable Andy Richter? Through all of the drama that has unfolded involving Conan O'Brien and NBC's The Tonight Show, the light at the end of the tunnel was always where he would end up next. Second to that, we all wondered just how similar Conan's new show would be to his old ones.
Lost in the talk show drama fire, we know that all of the crazy things that O'Brien created while at NBC -- such as Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, for example -- are the property of the network and will not be used again. What NBC doesn't own, however, are the human beings that have worked with Conan in the past, and one has been confirmed for the reunion.

Conan O'Brien's longtime sidekick Andy Richter will join him on O'Brien's upcoming late-night talk show on TBS, which premieres on November 8. Richter rose to fame on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on NBC where he spent 7 years before leaving in 2000 to pursue acting career. Richter reunited with O'Brien last year on The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and on this summer's Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour. He was recently seen on TBS hosting Team Coco Presents: The Conan Writers Live. “I’m thrilled to be going back to work with Conan, and very excited to start a whole new venture on TBS," Richter said. "However, I am mostly looking forward to getting out of the house again.” Conan O’Brien added, “This decision was made without my authority. I will get to the bottom of this.” Conan will originate from Stage 15 at Warner Bros.

O'Brien's third late-night show will simply be titled Conan when he returns to television Monday, Nov. 8, at 11 p.m. (Et/Pt) on TBS. Conan O'Brien added, "I'm just using Conan and dropping the O'Brien because I want to get away from the whole Irish thing." A Harvard grad, O'Brien helmed the Lampoon and wrote for television series icons Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons. From TBS: It was from there that he was championed by Lorne Michaels to host Late Night with Conan O'Brien, where he combined his talents as a writer, performer and interviewer from 1993 to 2008.

Conan O'Brien brought a lot of energy to Radio City Music Hall on June 1, but it was a scattershot evening. His revue-like show sagged in the middle; there was a lot of down time between the laughs; and with the star's shtick depending so much on the notion that he has gotten a raw deal in show business, O'Brien stepped dangerously close to maudlin Jerry Lewis territory at times. He was much looser than the performer who played it safe during his nearly eight months of hosting The Tonight Show, which came to an end January 22, when NBC executives decided not to stick with him after he brought in terrible ratings. But O'Brien didn't take advantage of his newfound freedom from network overseers, choosing not to stray too far from the tried and true material he and his writers cooked up during the more inventive and entertaining years...

The ménage à trios late night battle will begin when O'Brien debuts his new show after the World Series on TBS. According to Gavin Polone,...

Ground-breaking comedian, Conan O'Brien is once again about to change the face of late night television in America. After getting booted from his gig at NBC, the late night host began searching for his next job. A brief stint at a Twitter god kept his ego intact, but his hunger for live social interaction pushed him on the road and now finally, his own late night talk show! Conan O'Brien has landed a new gig to replace his short-lived run at the helm of "The Tonight Show." While it took him only a few weeks to sign with TBS for a Monday-Thursday 11 p.m. talk show, O'Brien may have to wait awhile to get back in the Emmy race. Remember, this critical darling failed to win over viewers in the vaunted 11:35 time slot and even the final season of "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" managed just one Emmy Award nomination last year. It took Conan O'Brien a full decade of hosting "Late Night" before the show landed its first Emmy bid in the variety comedy music series category in 2003. It contended...

The former host of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, has decided on a new home for his next late night talk show. Though most expected him to land at Fox, the local affiliates apparently weren't crazy about the idea because they're doing well with syndicated programming and didn't want to give up that revenue.
As a result, O'Brien and his troupe are heading to TBS beginning in November 2010. Here's the press release from the cable channel:
Conan Picks a Home - And It's TBS
Comedy icon Conan O'Brien is joining TBS to host a late-night talk show that is expected to debut in November. The Emmy*-winning comedian's new program will be followed by Lopez Tonight, which will shift to amid night time slot.

It's more than a little poetic that Conan O'Brien's new show will premiere on TBS in November (rather than on Fox, where everybody figured he'd end up). Though O'Brien has spent the better part of his adult life working in television, most of it has been on network TV ("Saturday Night Live," "The Simpsons," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and "The Tonight Show"). But he actually got his start on cable writing for the short-lived HBO series "Not Necessarily the News," a faux-news show that was a clear precursor to "The Daily Show."
Speaking of Jon Stewart, he (along with Stephen Colbert) represent O'Brien's biggest competition on the late nigh cable landscape. While there are a finite number of network choices (most of which are talk shows in the style of "The Tonight Show"), cable is a whole different beast with a variety of original and...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - NBC may have ditched Conan O'Brien, but Saturday Night Live creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels has the comedian's back. As for NBC replacing O'Brien with Leno, Michaels says "After early struggles, he prevailed. And I'm sure he will again." For many years, Michaels was the executive producer of Late Night With Conan O'Brien. He says he chose O'Brien for the gig because he was "very smart," "had an amazing character" and was "just brilliant." Michaels also gave his theory as to why the O'Brien/Leno debacle took place. He says that "there was a lot of worry and concern" that Leno would pop up on another network which is why the comedian was given the 10 p.m slot. SNL's Seth Meyers, who also worked with O'Brien in the past, says "You can't tell someone that you want to...

During a discussion in NYC called 'Live From New York,' Lorne Michaels offered some opinions on the entire Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien situation/fiasco. Michaels stated that he was sure Conan would land on his feet and indirectly stated that NBC handled the situation poorly. In short, it was nothing that hasn't been said before by other sources.
Given that he was one of the forces behind 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien' (and its Jimmy Fallon-hosted successor), his comments strike me as somewhat bland and politically correct. Undoubtedly Michaels took O'Brien's replacement on 'The Tonight Show' as something of a personal affront, but he has also long since learned that it's a bad idea to bad mouth the people that sign your paycheck.
Of course, this is the man from whom both Jack Donaghy and Dr. Evil were based. Whatever happens to Conan O'Brien,...

After getting the boot from late night, the Conan O'Brien 2010 Watch has been in full effect. Many want to see the late night host return, and while many are speculating that he will appear on Fox, no announcements have been made. There has been some movement in the O'Brien camp and just recently the host got back to his roots. Find out whom the former host was interviewing and chances are you will never guess it! If you guessed furry woodland creature, you are correct! Finally, funnyman Conan O'Brien bit the bullet and joined the social giant Twitter and in his first tweet he wrote, "Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me." It has been less than 24 hours since O'Brien fired out his first tweet, and his fans has flocked to his account and followed him in hopes of more funny banter.

We are only in week two of 2010 and the drama is already heating up past the boiling point. Reporters could have kept busy for weeks with regards to the Jay Leno/Conan O'Brien debacle, but throw Simon Cowell quitting American Idol (TV) into the mix and you have media overload. There are lots of stories floating around about this shakedown, so we complied all the information for you in one easy place. The gauntlet has been thrown and NBC and Fox scramble to put the pieces back together. Last spring, NBC made the decision to change the look of primetime by putting the late night host Jay Leno in the 10pm timeslot. Prompting the cancellation of shows to make room for Leno, fans went into this fall with a chip on their shoulder. Jay Leno Show (TV) promoted the new show all summer long on NBC and the comedian opened...

Pale Force is ridiculous. Let's just get that out of the way. Originally aired in pieces on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," it follows the adventures of a superhero called Pale Man, a taller, fitter version of creator Jim Gaffigan. Pale Man is the coolest most popular guy on the planet. Everyone loves him and admires him deeply, including Conan O'Brien, whose dream comes true when he becomes Pale Man's sidekick.
However ridiculous it may be, Pale Force is absurd in a completely awesome way. Every little episode, under the pretense of pale jokes, is basically an ongoing jab at Conan: in the Pale Force universe, he's assumed to either be gay or a woman by virtually everyone who comes across him, and, let's face it, for good reason; he's effeminate, bizarrely weak, and has a squeaky pre-pubescent voice (provided by Gaffigan).
That -- Gaffigan's steadfast devotion to keeping the...

When Andy Richter left Late Night With Conan O'Brien to establish his own career in acting, nobody knew that he'd come full circle and rejoin O'Brien years later. At the same time, nobody knew that creator Victor Fresco would do much the same thing.
Andy Richter Controls the Universe was one of those quirky shows that most people, who enjoy a dash of nonsense in their comedy, really dug. It was a very playful show about a guy working in a massive company. It featured a small ensemble with great chemistry on-screen, and had a unique look at big corporations.
A few years later, Fresco tapped that well again, and we got Better Off Ted, another comedy with absurdist tendencies set in a massive corporation with a small cast. Like Andy, it eked out a second season based more on critical acclaim than ratings. As someone who enjoys both shows,...

I've always thought that it was the writing that made Late Night with Conan O'Brien rather than Conan himself. When you look at Carson, Letterman, and even Craig Ferguson, those are clearly host-centered operations, but the strength of O'Brien's show was always the other stuff. Conan replaces Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, and even though Conan's not the best host around, it's still a big improvement. I just hope it's less kiss-ass than Leno's show was.
I don't think the question of whether Conan is cut out for 11:30 is really the issue, but rather if the writing can adjust and if it becomes a little tamer, what will that do when the host isn't the strongest part of the deal? The answer, it seems to me, is still better than Jimmy Fallon.
The guests this week start well enough: Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam. But by Friday,...

Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter are back together again. Richter, who was O'Brien's "Late Night" show sidekick from 1993-2000, has signed on to be the announcer on "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" when the new version of the 11:30pm NBC stalwart kicks off June 1st. Richter quit the sidekick gig on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" in May 2000 in order to focus on his career. He has since been involved in several comedy series, including a short-lived Fox comedy "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" and also-short-lived NBC show "Andy Barker, P.I." Richter has also appeared in films including "Talladega Nights," "Blades of Glory" and "Semi-Pro."...

Conan O'Brien's prodigal sidekick is back. Andy Richter, who had been assistant to the late night show host from 1993 to 2000, will be returning as announcer when O'Brien takes over the reins from Jay Leno this summer.
This time around, the 42-year-old comedian will not be sitting beside O'Brien, but he will take in part in sketches and other comedy bits with the host as the show's full-service announcer.
O'Brien said in a statement, "Andy is one of the funniest people I know and we've maintained a close friendship since he left 'Late Night.' I'm looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me 0."
Richter was the final nonmusical guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on Friday. O'Brien's current announcer Joel Goddard won't have a role with the new show.

Conan O'Brien's tenure on NBC's Late Night may have ended last week but he's hardly resting on his laurels. He's already actively planning his move to Los Angeles to take over for Jay Leno and start The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Though the timeslot and location will be new, his announcer will be a familiar friend.
When O'Brien took over Late Night from David Letterman back in 1993, his sidekick was Andy Richter, a comedy writer and actor. Richter came to New York as part of the production of The Real Live Brady Bunch. He played patriarch Mike Brady in the live recreations of scripts from the classic sitcom. After connecting with Saturday Night Live head writer Rob Smigel at parties, he was hired as a writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. I got a little choked up watching Late Night with Conan O'Brien on Friday night, and not because I was moved to tears by Max Weinberg's feral beauty. It was the last show before O'Brien takes over The Tonight Show's 11:30 p.m. Est slot, and he ended the broadcast by expressing thanks to the people who made the show possible.

New York -- Conan O'Brien's getting help from an old friend when he takes up the new job this summer.
Andy Richter will join "The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" as the show's announcer, NBC announced Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first time the two have worked together daily since Richter left "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" nine years ago.
"The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien" begins June 1 from a newly constructed studio; O'Brien left his "Late Night" perch last week to get ready.
Richter will not only announce but also be in comedic pieces, the network said.
O'Brien said that he has remained close friends with Richter since May 2000, when the latter left "Late Night" on a daily basis.
"We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to 'The Tonight Show,' " O'Brien said. "I'm looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again,...

The curtain has been drawn for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" on Friday, February 20 as Conan O'Brien's 2,725th sign off was made the last. A few selected highlights from O'Brien's last episode on the talk show before he moves on with "Tonight Show" in fall, are posted below.
Among the things presented on the telecast were the visits from Will Ferrell who was there as his "Saturday Night Live" persona President Bush, The White Stripes, Abe Vigoda and John Mayer. Andy Ritcher who was O'Brien's co-host for 7 years was also there for the first time after he departed in 2000.
Some montage from the 16 years of the show were also displayed, giving the best moments. It was then followed with a goodbye speech, where O'Brien thanked a massive number of crew who have worked with him for years and bid his fellow talk hosts a good luck.
