Darksiders II/Assassin's Creed composer Jesper Kyd is joined by Mass Effect 3's Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan (aka Sonic Mayhem) and Gearbox's own Raison Varner to bring music to Pandora next month.
The September 18th soundtrack (which will be getting both a physical and digital release through Sumthing Else Music Works), is comprised of 23 tracks from the quartet of composers. From the looks of it, most of them are named based on locations, so folks worrying about, you know, spoiling the story can read on.
From the official announcement:
Composers Jesper Kyd (Assassin's Creed), Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan (Mass Effect 3), with additional music from Raison Varner (Gearbox Software), created a colorful and dynamic music score for Borderlands 2's adrenaline-fuelled combat and diverse atmospheric environments. The album's description describes it as a mix of "cute and somber jazz, over a mid-tempo beat." That's an odd way of saying it sounds pretty before it gets all pumped up.*
Over the weekend, the soundtrack for the punishing platformer went on sale via Bandcamp, you should at the very least check it out. Composed by Eirik Suhrke, with contributions by Sanjjib, along with Shnabubula & Gabe Terracciano, Spelunky's soundtrack boasts 62 tracks that veer between the expected chiptune 8-bit homage and some more deliberately-composed piano and string tracks.
Give it a listen:
You can get it now for $7.00 (or name your price at something higher, should you be so inclined).
*Paid critic, people.

Sometimes I come across something so insane and awesome and intriguing on a Friday afternoon, that's it irresistible, and I have to post about it—despite knowing it'll elicit a divisive response. This short film, I guess I could call it, is more of a music video teaser for an Ep by musician Sonic Mayhem. The sound is called "electronic punk" and the film features some sort of crazy ass industrial machines going crazy in some industrial place. It's kind of awesome. It was created by Isaac J. Rosenthal, also known as Zyclotron. I can't say much else besides, you have to fire this up and see if you like it or hate it or think it's awesome, too. Here's the info straight from the website: sonicmayhem.com/ep. From the creator of scores such as Quake II, Quake 3 Arena, Mass Effect series, Tron Evolution and many others comes an...

It's been a couple of weeks since the New York Asian Film Festival wrapped, but that's given festival organizers time to tally up the results of their audience poll for viewers' favorite movie. And Takashi Miike's adaptation of the Phoenix Wright series took home the big prize. While I still have my issues with the overall length and pacing of the movie, but overall, it was a fun watch. Plus, I'm guessing the audience was probably packed with fans of the series already, making it an easier sell.
Hopefully, Capcom will be able to capitalize on the attention the film is getting soon-ish so that it can get North American DVD and Blu-ray distribution Asap.

Looking back at the list of titles that graced 8-bit consoles (and PCs) in 1987, you find that's it's a veritable parade of first entries in what would in time go on to either greatly influence gaming or spawn literally dozens of sequels between them. This is the year that modern video gaming was born, as simple left-to-right platforming was starting to experience previously unseen variations and mutations, while the standard bearers of fighting games and RPGs experienced their genesis. Take a look back at some of these classic titles celebrating their 25th anniversary as part of the 1987 Silver series on MTV Multiplayer.

Sascha Dikiciyan, aka Sonic Mayhem has won awards for composing music for games like Mass Effect 2 and 3, Quake II and III: Arena, and Tron: Evolution. Now he's doing his own thing with a collection of electronic-industrial-noise tracks on his forthcoming Ep, Doomsday.
More details after the jump.
The video was created by the folks at Zyclotron, giving Sonic Mayhem's distinctly chaotic sounds an appropriately grimy and industrial backdrop.
According to the press release, the Ep by the Berlin native Sonic Mayhem will include the tracks "Bleed Forever," "Sequence of Chaos," "Doomsday," "A New Dawn," and "125 GeV." Those names seem suitably heavy-sounding.
Doomsday is currently without a release date, but we'll bring you more info when one is available.
