Geronimo Mercado, a multidisciplinary artist from Puerto Rico, draws from his Latino upbringing to explore diverse art forms, particularly music. As a composer, he embraces eclectic influences and collaborates with underrepresented storytellers, including minority and female directors. Notable film credits include "12 Hours," winner at Tribeca Film Festival, "Miente," Puerto Rico's official Oscar submission, and "200 Letters," featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, garnering recognition at the Platino Awards. He has composed for over 30 films, spanning both Spanish and English-speaking markets, including Hollywood productions such as "Ana" starring Andy Garcia, "Speed Kills" starring John Travolta, and "Driven" starring Jason Sudeikis, participant of the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. His original soundtracks are released through Polifacetic Music/Universal Music.
Mercado, a Berklee College of Music graduate with dual majors in Film Scoring and Music Business, holds an MFA in Sound Arts from Columbia University. He's an alumnus of LAFCI and a Cannes Marché du Film Spot The Composer Fellow. In his artistic journey, he's studied under renowned mentors like Miya Masaoka (Sound Arts), John Kessler (Sculpture), Liz Philips (Interactive Art), and Miller Puckette (Max MSP/PD). Also, Angel Velez, Bill Ross and Conrad Pope (Conducting and Orchestration).
In the electronic music realm, Mercado champions the experimental instrument "Reactable Live," performing under the pseudonym "Rec Deselby," with notable appearances at events like Electric Daisy Carnival. He continuously explores sound and visual arts in various mediums, from sound sculptures to interactive installations aiming to evoke unity and self-awareness amidst societal disruptions. Noteworthy exhibitions include "Poetic Science" an AICA Award winner and installations such as "Victrolian Man," "K@lostrum," and "Memorial to a Sound Ghost (dedicated to Pauline Oliveros)". His works have been showcased globally, from galleries in San Juan to venues in New York, Cuba, China, and Japan.
Mercado divides his time between Puerto Rico, New York, and Los Angeles, refining his artistic practice and cultivating his unique voice. Additionally, he's commissioned to premiere an opera titled "The Teflon King" in 2026, showcasing his ongoing evolution as an artist.
