The viral video now rivals the TV commercial as the venue for up-and-coming directors and actors to get noticed. Advertising has long been a backdoor into the entertainment industry. Directors such as Ridley Scott, who made the iconic “1984” ad for Apple, and Michael Bay, who directed the first “Got Milk?” ad, launched their careers in advertising. Justin Long is perhaps more famous for playing a Mac in Apple commercials than any of his film roles. Now, companies ranging from the upstart crowdfunding site IndieFilmFunding.com to Tequila Avion are opening their ad campaigns to submissions from young filmmakers. Tequila Avion recently partnered with the Film Department at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, a town just outside of Los Angeles, on a viral video competition. Student filmmakers were invited to create a TV commercial or viral video inspired by the premium tequila. Twelve finalists, six from each category, were...

We've been talking about Tom Holland's adaptation of Stephen King's short story "The Ten O'Clock People" for the last couple of years here on Dread Central, which originally had Justin Long attached to star. Long dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, and his replacement has now been found. Read on!
THR reports that This Is the End star Jay Baruchel has signed on to play the lead role in the adaptation, a film he will also be executive producing.
Baruchel will play a smoker who returns to his old habit with a cessation drug still in his system, triggering a side effect that reveals a frightening reality in which many people in authority are monsters.
The Ten O'Clock People film, written and directed by Holland, is eying a June start in Baruchel’s hometown of Montreal.
Industry veteran Don Carmody is producing. Baruchel is exec producing with Pascal Borno,...

What I said last time about the summer being a fairly quiet time for the streaming world, please disregard. Rather than wait for the autumn when people are more inclined to slump on a sofa in front of the tube, Netflix, Lovefilm and a new contender have decided that everyone just loves good movies and TV and so have flooded the marketplace with good content in a battle to outdo one another. The winner again is you the consumer and the hardest part may be to actually choose just one of these outlets to subscribe to.
That new contender I talked about is Sky, who has thrown their hat into the ring with Now TV, which is essentially an on demand version of their Sky Movie channels available over the internet. If you have seen the Now TV website and thought they didn’t actually have much content then think again.

Sir Ian McKellen has revealed that he's going to marry Sir Patrick Stewart. Well, he's going to officiate Sir Patrick's wedding. He's done it before for a civil partnership, he says.
Which seems at odds with the Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, that has decided not to perform any marriages until they're allowed to perform same-sex marriages. I always felt it was a nice gesture to say you weren't going to wed until everyone could, but probably unnecessary. Sir Ian obviously thinks so – what about you?
Add Funny Or Die to the list of Steve Jobs biopics, this one starring Justin Long and based on fifteen minutes research of looking at Jobs' Wikipedia page. I wonder if The Woz will approve of this one more than the Ashton Kutcher pic?

A movie like “10 Years” is easy. Gather an ensemble of likeable thirty year old actors, cast them as old friends coming together (in this case at the titular ten year high school reunion), throw some latent drama and a tinge of comedy into the fold, and watch it play out in crisscrossing vignettes over one night that lets the audience feel like they’ve gotten to know these equally likeable characters despite the fact that they are largely one-note, stereotypical representations. The hard part is for this mixture to be good once all the ingredients are thrown in, and it is safe to say that “10 Years” is just that.
The laundry list of people in the cast is quite overwhelming, reading like a who’s who of potential breakout stars with some established actors thrown in there for good measure. The main character, if there has to be one, is...

Casting on Die Hard 5, or as it’s officially titled A Good Day To Die Hard (jeez), is getting fierce.
A few weeks back it was reported that Ben Foster, Paul Dano, Milo Ventimiglia and Aaron Paul were all battling it out to play John McClane’s son in the new movie but now according to Deadline there is a second round of shortlisting and only one has survived to the next round, Paul, and he might struggle due to his commitments to AMC’s Breaking Bad.
Deadline name;
Liam Hemsworth, brother to Thor’s Chris Hemsworth and who himself has a big franchise in the offing with The Hunger Games & appears alongside Willis in The Expendables 2 (which might be his ticket to getting the role)
James Badge Dale (The Pacific, World War Z)
and D.J. Cortuna, who is always in these casting battles and never wins.

The Beverly Hilton Hotel was star-studded last night as the Golden Globes took over. The evening was kicked off by host Ricky Gervais cracking up the A-list crowd with his sarcastic opening monologue, before one of the first awards of the evening went to the extremely grateful Mo'Nique for her work in Precious. Drew Barrymore was honored for her work in Grey Gardens, and she was later able to thank Justin Long and Jessica Lange from the press room. Big TV honors for the ladies went to Toni Collette for The United States of Tara and Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife. Michael C. Hall took home a win for his work in Dexter, and retreated to the press room afterward to talk about going public with his cancer fight. Alec Baldwin won for 30 Rock, though he wasn't able to attend, and his statue was accepted by presenters Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher.

In Judd Apatow's Funny People, Adam Sandler plays a famous movie star comedian with a string of popular films to his name. One of his character's make believe movies is Re-Do, a comedy where Sandler's George Simmons plays a 40-year-old man who wishes to be young again. He gets his wish by being transformed into a 6-month-old baby that has the head of Adam Sandler. No, it's Ok, calm down -- this isn't a real movie. It only sounds like one.
There's a new clip showing a scene from this bogus flick. I know Apatow's meaning to spoof all those fantasies that Sandler's been making like Bedtime Stories and Click and he goes overboard with the schmaltzy quotient in the snippet but my God, isn't this really is the kind of lowest common denominator pablum that Sandler has been making? Who's laughing at the meta comedy now, Judd?
