Christopher Nolan is a very smart man who makes very smart movies (and "The Dark Knight Rises"), so it's fitting that he would be drawn to J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist who led the Manhattan Project and created the most awesomely destructive weapon in human history. It's also not surprising that a man who's never made a bad movie (save for "The Dark Knight Rises) aced his biopic assignment with "Oppenheimer," which is currently torching the global box office and looking an awful lot like this year's Best Picture frontrunner.
Part of what makes Nolan one of the finest filmmakers of his generation is his respect for expertise. When, for instance, he makes a movie about astronauts traveling through a wormhole, he collaborates with the man who wrote the literal, and thus-far definitive, book on the subject (theoretical physicist Kip Thorne). And when the payoff is a brainy masterpiece like "Interstellar,...

The Big Bang Theory broke out the big gun at this morning's Comic-Con panel inside a packed Ballroom 20 for its panel discussion.
Moderated by star Melissa Rauch, the event kicked off with Stephen Hawking giving a pre-taped message... and covering the entire Big Bang in just 17 words. Watch him get the Q&A session started now:
Stephen Hawking Introduces The Big Bang Theory at Comic-Con

Executive producer/showrunner Steve Molaro and co-creator/executive producer Bill Prady; co-executive producers Dave Goetsch, Steve Holland, Eric Kaplan and Jim Reynolds; supervising producer Maria Ferrari and science consultant David Saltzberg.

Footage Screened: In a pre-taped video, Stephen Hawking — who guest-starred on season 6 — introduced the panel by speaking the lyrics to the show’s theme song through his voice synthesizer. "The Big Bang Theory" returned to Comic-Con with a panel intended to focus on the writers, but surprise appearances by series stars Johnny Galecki and Melissa Rauch stole the spotlight.
Rauch moderated the session with writer-producer panelists Steve Molaro, Bill Prady, Eric Kaplan, Jim Reynolds, Steve Holland and Maria Ferrari and science adviser David Saltzberg.
Rauch almost immediately opened the session up for audience questions and there was nothing unusual about a Con-goer in a "Star Wars" costume (specifically Leia's Boushh bounty hunter disguise from "Return of the Jedi") approaching the microphone.
Except it turned out the disguise was another joke. "Who are you?" Rauch asked from the stage. And the stranger at the microphone pulled off the costume's helmet to reveal himself: it was Galecki, who deadpanned the line "Someone who loves you" and promptly bounded up to the stage to join the panel.
Teases for what to expect in Season 7 were limited.

Special guests livened up Friday’s writers panel for CBS‘ Emmy-nominated comedy The Big Bang Theory, which opened with a taped message from Season 6′s guest star Stephen Hawking. “I’m sorry I can’t be there — I got a flat tire,” he joked. “When I’m not playing Words With Friends with Sheldon, I’m thinking about the universe.” Shortly into the panel led by surprise moderator Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on the show, cast member Johnny Galecki stepped up to the fan microphone in full Star Wars Boushh cosplay before joining the panelists onstage. The hourlong chat with showrunner Bill Prady and exec producer/showrunner Steve Molaro, co-executive producers Dave Goetsch, Steve Holland, Eric Kaplan and Jim Reynolds, supervising producer Maria Ferrari, and science consultant Dr. David Saltzberg, mostly kept to fan inquiries and personal geek anecdotes revealing the nerdy leanings of Big Bang Theory‘s creators.

Diane Haithman is an AwardsLine contributor. Undergrads from UCLA’s Honors Physics 1B — who take this class because ordinary physics just isn’t difficult enough — were in for a surprise when they took a field trip to Warner Bros. Studios to be part of the live studio audience for CBS’ The Big Bang Theory. The set always features whiteboards marked up with dizzyingly complex equations. And it took awhile for any student to notice that today’s equations were the solutions for the midterm exam they’d taken that day. As Big Bang physicist Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) might say: Bazinga! This visual gag was a lot like the continual pranks of Sheldon and his geeky pals on the show. But the man behind this in-joke was their professor, particle astrophysicist David Saltzberg, who also serves as science adviser on Big Bang. Related: Emmys: Comedy Series Overview He’s the...

Its pretty rare these days that I watch a TV show for the first time and instantly like it. Usually, a show takes time to grow on me or, in many cases, doesn’t and I end up moving on to something else. Like most people, my time is valuable and I only have so much, so I want to spend time where it counts watching shows of quality. Much to my happiness, The Big Bang Theory is a show I instantly liked and have been a devoted watcher of from day one.
The setup may seem rather familiar to anyone who’s watched a sitcom in the last twenty years. Sheldon and Leonard (Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons) two nerdy, comic book loving physicists live together in an apartment while they work at a nearby university. Their perfect world of video games, trips to the comic book store and...
