Qala marks the second collaboration between Anvita Dutt, Tripti Dimri and Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz after “Bulbbul”. Both a melancholic social tragedy, while “Bulbbul” explores the themes of the sexual violence that wreaks horror in the lives of women, “Qala” sheds light on the plight of women in the Hindi music industry- predominantly a man’s world. Qala is an Indian psychological-drama written and directed by Anvita Dutt Guptan, starring Tripti Dimri.
A slightly different feature film to what Netflix has previously brought to us recently. You can expect a slow-paced movie that tells a very sad story of a tormented celebrity, which is not based on real life events.

Qala is a talented and accomplished singer, who despite her success is tormented by her past in which her mother, especially, played a quite nefarious role.

The show revolves around the death of a popular child star Zara Ahuja, and the prime suspect of her murder – her own brother, Mukul Ahuja. Swastika plays a mother to the accused in the Disney+ Hotstar show.
Talking about what makes the courtroom drama appealing to the masses, Swastika said: “There is pain, suffering, and tedious legal battles but on the other side of the coin you also have wit, humour, beautiful relationships, heartbreaks and so many other elements that are wonderfully balanced in the series.”
“This masterful emotional and contextual balance of the Criminal Justice franchise was one of the reasons why I wanted to be a part of it. This type of unique balance is not always seen when you come across serious legal dramas, yet the makers achieve this incredible feat.

Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach (Disney+Hotstar)
Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Shweta Basu Prasad , Purab Kohli, Swastika Mukherjee
Directed by Rohan Sippy
“Juvenile cases make me uneasy,” confesses cop Gauri Karmakar(Kalyani Mulay) to her senior as they stroll to the scene of the crime where a 12-going-on-10 year old girl has been murdered.
Gauri,if you remember, had marital issues with her husband in the second season. Men in Criminal justice don’t like their women working. Our lawyer-hero Madhav Mishra can barely tolerate his wife’s ambitions as a beautician.
Luckily , Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach doesn’t get into gruesome details of the crime. This is not to say that proceedings are conducted on a superficial level. The astutely conceived story is intriguing: the whole culture of pushing a juvenile star into premature stardom , and not allowing Zara(Deshna Dugad) to grow any older than 10 as that’s the age...

This is not the first time she will be seen playing a mother, Swastika has earlier played a mum in movies such as ‘Dil Bechara’ starring late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. The daughter of late Bengali star Santu Mukhopadhyay shares how her character as a mother closely mirrors her own personality.

Mumbai, Dec 7 (Ians) Veteran actress Arundhati Nag says she learnt a lot about the world of youngsters, apps and fake identities working in her debut web series, the upcoming techno-thriller Escaype Live.
Arundhati plays the mother of southern star Siddharth in the show.
"‘Escaype Live' introduced me to a world that was a complete mystery -- a world of youngsters, apps, fake identities, the whole big world of aspirations and how they try to get there. For me, this is a taste of what the younger generation is thinking of," she said.
On her role, the actress shared: "I play a mother who cares for her child more than anything else which also could be, in a sense, detrimental. Her desire to see her children succeed could be a trigger for many decisions they take. She isn't the villain of the piece. She's doing what her dharma is -- to be the mother.

Mumbai, Nov 12 (Ians) Actor Sharad Kelkar found it fascinating to play a character with dark and white shades in equal proportions, in the digital project Black Widows.
Essaying the role of Jatin Malhotra, Sharad said: "At first glance, Jatin looks like the ideal person. He has worked hard to get the success he has today. As the story unfolds, the audience will see that there is more to him, a darker side that he keeps his family shielded from."
"It was fascinating for me to play a character with equally dark and white shades to it. There is lot of mystique to my character. I am looking forward for everyone to witness it," he added.
Actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay will be seen playing a cop in the series.
He said: "After playing the role of a quirky taxi driver in 'Tiki-Taka', switching to Pankaj Mishra as a cop was a complete u-turn for me.

Swastika added: "Sidhharth Kumar Tewary is calm and sorted and fun to work with and it's been an incredible start. My character is a today's woman who's independent in her thoughts and entrepreneurial in nature, she goes through a journey of exploring her own personality."

Mumbai, Nov 2 (Ians) Young actor Nikhil Bhambri had a chance to work with seniors like Mona Singh and Sharad Kelkar recently, and he says it was like attending a school with brilliant teachers.
Nikhil had the experience while shooting for the upcoming show, "Black Widows", which also stars actors such as Swastika Mukherjee, Shamita Shetty and Raima Sen.
"Working with such senior actors was a dream come true for me. Not only were they very friendly, they were also very supportive. I learnt a lot from them," said Nikhil.
"For me it was like attending a school with brilliant teachers, I used to just observe how they would portray a scene. Even if I had an early pack up, I would sit on the set and just observe them. I used to have long chats with my co-stars and I used to keep asking them about performances and how to keep improving.

Film review Sushant Singh Rajput as Manny is lovable in his role of a charming, flirty, happy-go-lucky guy in ‘Dil Bechara.’Geetika MantriStill: Dil BecharaWatching Dil Bechara is a bittersweet feeling. Sweet, because Sushant Singh Rajput, holds his own as he did throughout his tragically brief stint in Bollywood and makes you smile with his cutesy and goofy ways in the film. And bitter, because this feeling is followed soon by a reminder of his demise and that he won’t be seen on the big screen again. Before the Mukesh Chhabra film actually begins, we see a black and white clip of Sushant – who died reportedly by suicide at his apartment in Mumbai on June 14, 2020 – playing the guitar, looking happy and smiling. A quote from Sushant appears below it, reading, “Perhaps, the difference between what is miserable, and that which is spectacular, lies in the leap of faith.” And as the film ends,...

EntertainmentWhile Rhea penned an emotional letter, Swastika shared an old video of them dancing on the sets of 'Dil Bechara'.Tnm StaffScreengrabA month after the death of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, tributes started pouring in for the late actor on social media from friends and colleagues in the film industry, including his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty. While Rhea shared a letter that she had penned, Bengali actor Swastika Mukherjee, with whom Sushant worked in films like Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, shared a video on Instagram of them dancing. The video was shot when the two actors were working on the film Dil Bechara. Swastika wrote, “I’d like to remember Sushant like this. Always. Simple. Fun loving. Jovial. Keep dancing with the stars, boy. Love.” Dil Bechara incidentally is the last film that the late actor worked on and it also stars Sanjana Sanghi. It was earlier reported that the trailer...

Paatal Lok
(9 Episodes, Amazon Prime Video)
Starring Neeraj Kabi as Sanjeev Mehra,Jaideep Ahlawat as Hathiram Chaudhary,Abhishek Banerjee as Hathoda Tyagi,Swastika Mukherjee as Dolly Mehra,Ishwak Singh as Imran Ansari
Directed by Prosit Roy & Avinsh Arun Dhaware
This one just blows you away, no two ways about it. After suffering the load of crap that’s being offloaded on the digital platform to make hay while the sun strangles, Paatal Lok comes as a jolting reminder of what levels of brilliant storytelling can be achieved on the Ott platform by those who know how to use the extended space afforded by the medium.
Not a single moment is wasted in the 9 episodes of taut and coiled storytelling. This is a series that requires our complete and unconditional attention as Sudeep Sharma’s devious screenplay slithers from one level of dramatic tension to another without an iota of selfcongratulation.

Despite the many protests about the role Netflix currently plays in the movie industry, the undeniable fact is that without its streaming platform, a number of interesting productions (and really many from Asia) would have never found their way to the TVs of the rest of the world, something, which, in my book, is definitely a tick in the pros column. The selection method of these movies, however, remains a mystery and the fact is that not all of them are of quality. Let us see what is the case with “Kia and Cosmos” is.
The story is loosely based on the “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time”, a novel by Mark Haddon, and revolves around a 15-year-old girl in the spectrum of autism named Kia. Kia lives with just her mother, Dia, and has few friends, mostly her teacher in school and a young ricksaw-wallah who takes her there.
