Despite reports they were mulling over a revival, CBS has decided its Code Black TV show will remain cancelled. During the Summer 2018 TCAs, Entertainment boss Kelly Kahl said the network was trying to figure out a way to "make it work," but it seems it is not to be.
A CBS medical drama, Code Black starred Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzmán, Rob Lowe, Boris Kodjoe, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, William Allen Young, Emily Tyra, Noah Gray-Cabey, Emily Alyn Lind, and Moon Bloodgood. The series unfolds at Angels Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles — the busiest, most notorious ER in the country. Code Black may not be dead yet.
CBS has confirmed it might bring the series back down the line after the response from fans to it being canceled after three seasons.
“It’s doing incredibly well, it’s a well-done show. We’d like to figure out a way to maybe make it work,” Kelly Kahl said on Sunday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “We’re going to take a look.”
The show's cancellation was a surprising one. The series was pushed from the main season to the summer schedule, and while the numbers went down considerably, they were still decent for the time of year it was airing.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about tonight’s series finale of Code Black.
If you are going to go out, go out with a bang — that seemed to be the sentiment for the Code Black series finale tonight on CBS.
The medical drama was not short on the drama as it stacked intense, near-death moments in and outside of Angels Memorial. The Season 3-ending episode, appropriately titled “The Business of Saving Lives,” also served up some emotional connections with the many struggling relationships in the series — mainly Marcia Gay Harden’s Dr. Leanne Rorish and foster daughter Ariel (Emily Alyn Lind).
The episode is told somewhat out of order, starting with an airplane crashing into Angels Memorial. It then backtracks to the events leading up to that crash — and boy oh boy is there a lot.
Through the course of the episode, Col. Ethan Willis (Rob Lowe) continues to...

Noah's finally got his groove back, and all it took was one hardass Army colonel.
Niceness only gets you so far, as some of the docs learned on Code Black Season 3 Episode 7. But that advice can be taken too far, as we saw with Angus, who is jeopardizing his personal relationships for the sake of the job.
I was so happy to see Elliot gaining some confidence back, but I could have done without the constant repetition of "Stand your ground." Either the writers are completely unaware of how loaded a phrase that is or they just don't care.
I'm not sure which is worse.

In its freshman installment, the Code Black TV show earned low ratings for a CBS TV series. Instead of cancelling though, the network renewed it, with the requisite cast changes. Its numbers fell further last year, but it still wasn't cancelled, probably thanks to licensing deal concessions. Will the third season see the audience grow or further diminish, and if so, how low can it go? Will Code Black be cancelled or renewed for season four? Angels Memorial is closing its doors. CBS has cancelled its Code Black TV show after three seasons. Creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has already confirmed the Code Black cancellation. CBS medical drama Code Black will not return for a fourth season. Creator/showrunner Michael Seitzman revealed the news in a note to fans early Thursday on Twitter.

The series returned April 25 to soft numbers, with its Season 3 premiere down 33% compared with last season’s debut. It came down to the wire last year, with the show getting a last-minute Season 3 renewal, as it did for Season 2. Because of the late start, the network this year postponed the renewal decision until after the upfronts.

The decision not to renew for a fourth season was not a surprise. Seitzman wrote that the season finale was written as a series ender. “We always suspected this would be the last season. We wrote it to end that way,” he tweeted.

The series was produced by ABC Television Studios in association with CBS Television Studios. Seitzman executive produced with David Marshall Grant, Rob Bowman, Marti Noxon, Linda Goldstein Knowlton, Ryan McGarry and Mike Weiss.

Updated May 24 at 7:31 a.m. Pt with “Code Black” canceled by CBS.
Is “Ghosted” coming back?
That’s a question on viewers’ minds as upfronts week comes to a close, with Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS and The CW all having announced their fall programming schedules as of Thursday. ‘Cause some of those slates have holes in them, meaning the statuses of almost half a dozen shows on broadcast television are still up in the air.
Look, we can accept the fact that not every series will be saved like “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — not every show should be. But come on, networks — minus ABC and The CW, who have already killed or renewed everything they’re going to — fans need to hear one way or another whether their favorite programs will be returning this fall, especially for ones that have a crazy-devoted fanbase.

Well, that was different.
A patient's tumor took us all to a musical review on Code Black Season 3 Episode 2. This isn't the first time that the showrunners have shown their theater geek sides, but I think it was my favorite.
The brightly colored song and dance routines worked precisely because they were hallucinations. It's not a new approach, but it is an effective one.
As fun as the intro scene was, I preferred Noa's ballet scene. Not only did Emily Tyra get to show off her skills, but it was a better representation of what was really happening.

Dr. Avila still hasn't grown on me, and I doubt many of you are impressed with the wannabe documentarian. He may have managed to put the camera down and practice some medicine, but it didn't do anything for his personality.

Internet television giant Netflix is making an investment in an advertising medium that rose to prominence alongside Harry Ford’s Model-t: the billboard.
Netflix is offering $300 million to acquire Regency Outdoor Advertising, a company that owns the familiar billboards along Sunset Strip, at Los Angeles International Airport and near the UCLA campus, Reuters reports.
The streaming TV giant plans to increase spending on marketing its original shows and movies to $2 billion this year, amid growing competition from technology companies such as Amazon.com, Facebook and Hulu, as well as from traditional media companies like Disney that are investing in their own streaming services.
Billboards are clearly part of Netflix’s promotional arsenal, with Sunset Boulevard adorned with images touting Stranger Things and The Crown. Should the transaction be completed, HBO and Showtime would seemingly need to look for other locations to promote its shows.
Netflix could not immediately be reached for comment.

Code Black wasn't an out of the gate hit.
But it really put the pedal to the metal as far as the medical drama was concerned. Every week, Code Black Season 1 had a very strong medical case, sometimes involving their own characters.
Rob Lowe is about to become one of those characters. He's joined as a series regular!!
His character will be introduced on the second season premiere on September 28.
A doctor in the U.S. Military’s prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program, Colonel Ethan Willis, has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine.
His aggressive, rule-breaking style is greeted enthusiastically by Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden), but not by all the other doctors.
In addition to Harden, he’ll join Code Black stars Luis Guzman, Melanie Chandra, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth,...

CBS hasn't had a successful medical drama in quite some time. How has Code Black been performing in the ratings? Will the network want it back for a second season or, will it be cancelled instead?
Code Black takes place in an Emergency Room in Los Angeles where underfunding and understaffing pile huge pressures on its staff. The cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Raza Jaffrey, Bonnie Somerville, Melanie Chandra, William Allen Young, Harry Ford, Benjamin Hollingsworth, and Luis Guzman.
The series debuted in late September 2015 to a 1.54 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.58 million viewers. That was an okay start for the 10pm drama though the CBS execs were surely hoping for better.

This week’s episode of Code Black is called, “Love Hurts.” Often times a show takes its episode title from something said in the show, but sometimes, like tonight, it’s a theme we see rather than hear. “How do I love thee, let me count the ways” is a famous poem, but how about how about counting the ways love can hurt? Code Black, “Love Hurts” – The Setup Angus Resident doctor Angus Leighton (Harry Ford) is having a bad dream. It’s not just the pressure of his residency, although he’s clearly worried about being able to keep up.

In case you couldn’t tell from the above photo, CBS’ new medical drama Code Black is all about controlled chaos. Angels Memorial Hospital is frantic, intense and overwhelming.
With an influx of patients so great, there often aren’t enough resources to treat them — a situation known as “code black” — there’s no time for hooking up in the on-call room. An attending even tells two bickering docs, “If nobody’s taking their clothes off, I need you both on the floor now.”

I will say this for "Code Black": it knows its TV hospital drama cliches, and when to deploy them. Adapted by Michael Seitzman from Ryan McGarry's documentary of the same name, "Code Black" (it debuts Wednesday night at 10) is set at a Los Angeles hospital that has the nation's busiest emergency room. Where an average ER hits code black five times in a year, this place gets there 300 times. Its residents have to be able to multi-task in a way that makes all the County General doctors from "ER" look like slackers. Now, many of the executives who've run CBS for 20 years worked together at Warner Bros. when "ER" was developed, so it's not surprising either that they would order a show like this,...
