Thelonious Monster’s Bob Forrest once wrote of a “Sammy Hagar Weekend.” Now, The Late, Late Show’s James Corden is doing him one better, presenting a week with pop singer Justin Bieber to celebrate the release of his new album, Changes.
Bieber’s album, his fifth studio effort and his first in five years, arrives on Valentine’s Day. To celebrate, he’ll appear in a “Carpool Karaoke” on Tues., Feb. 18, a “Toddlerography” on Wed. Feb. 19, and a segment called “Spill Your Guts Or Fill Your Guts” on Thurs. Feb. 20.
Corden released a short video announcing the week-long appearance. Watch it above.

I have no intro for this piece. You see, the Hot Docs Film Festival, showcasing the best in the world of documentary filmmaking, is bigger than ever this year with over 200 movies being screened of the course of 11 days. I have seen about 60 of them in the past three weeks and reviewed most of them for another site. I understand that the choices are overwhelming this year, but here I am to briefly give all you fine Dork Shelf readers my top five picks of the festival and five other films that are in smaller categories of competition that you shouldn’t overlook.

Wiebo’s War (Canadian Spectrum) – A stunningly stark portrait of what could make a man turn to terrorism, Weibo’s War follows accused Alberta oil pipeline bomber and Christian evangelical Wiebo Ludwig in his deeply personal fights against what really are injustices that have been committed against his family.

Cast: Bob Forrest, David Adelson, Steven Adler, Eric Avery
It is a tried and true tale – a promising talent gets mixed up in the world of drugs and addiction and their story ends too soon. For Bob Forrest, it seemed like that was exactly how his story would play out as he struggled with major addictions in the wake of a potentially successful music career. Instead, Forrest worked to get not only himself clean, but others as well. Bob And The Monster shows Forrest’s journey from front man of Thelonious Monster to drug counselor, as Forrest takes what could have been a tragic existence and in turn uses his experience and knowledge to help others.

In the midst of one of the biggest music festivals in the world, Bob Forrest wanted the music to be shut off. "Look at this fucking thing that's going on," he asks me, gazing back in the direction of Austin's infamous 6th Street. He laughs, "Do you want to be over there in that fucking thing?"
Though Forrest is still an active musician, there was a time when he was right in the middle of the fray. As the frontman of Thelonious Monster, he came up with a group of Los Angeles bands including the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fishbone (also the subject of an excellent documentary at SXSW called "Everyday Sunshine") that ruled the L.A. scene in the early '80s with a sound that found the rhythm in chaos described as "drunk rock" by one critic. And Forrest was drunk, and high for most of it,...

"It was one of the most magical times ever," recalls Anthony Kiedis of the 1980s Los Angeles punk scene that gave birth to bands like his Red Hot Chili Peppers amidst a haze of sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll. But for indie rock icon Bob Forrest, lead singer of the post-punk band Thelonious Monster, the freely available substances that liberated the scene also sent him into a spiraling drug dependency that ruined his career. After years of battling his demons, Forrest became a renowned drug counselor helping others, and his struggle formed the basis of the documentary Bob and the Monster.

Who is this man who's stolen Christina Applegate's heart?
Dutch born Martyn LeNoble hails from Vlaardingan, Netherlands, making the trek to Los Angeles back in 1989. By our count, he most likely spotted his future wife for the first time as Kelly Bundy on "Married... With Children."
The 41-year-old found his place as the bassist for Porno for Pyros, an alternative rock band fronted by Jane's Addiction's Perry Farrell. The group was formed in 1992 and also includes Stephen Perkins on drums and Peter Distefano on guitar.
LeNoble's music career started when he was just 14, playing in a punk band in his native country. Since moving stateside, he's collaborated with Thelonious Monster, The Too Free Stooges, Jane's Addiction, The Cult, Tom Morello and Dave Navarro.
Congratulations to the couple on welcoming little Sadie Grace LeNoble into the world!
If you're so inclined, you can watch one of Porno for Pyro's...
