This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is writer/director Tyler Christensen’s 2016 horror film House of Purgatory. Haunt is the latest film from writers Scott Beck and Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place). Produced by Eli Roth (The Green Inferno), Haunt takes place in a side road amusement park. Here, real killers torment their victims, behind closed doors. This horror title stars: Will Brittain (Kong: Skull Island), Katie Stevens (Polaroid), Andrew Caldwell ("iZombie"), Lauryn Alisa McClain and many others. Already slated to show this September, Haunt was shot in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. And, based on the trailer, this horror thriller will host lots of scares. The synopsis does not reveal much. Several friends track down an extreme haunted house. The ride promises to feed on their darkest fears. And, this is one ride where nightmares become real. The use of haunted house rides has been utilized a lot in the horror genre. From Tyler Christensen's House of Purgatory (2016) to the underground Amusement (2008), killers and murderers are always...

A haunted attraction harbors intimate and personally horrifying scares for a group of friends with dark secrets in House of Purgatory, out now on digital platforms from Terror Films. For our latest Q&A feature, we caught up with the film's writer/director Tyler Christensen to discuss filming his first feature in his hometown, working with Brian Krause (Charmed), and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Tyler. When did you first come up with the idea for House of Purgatory?
Tyler Christensen: I had heard the story of a haunted attraction so scary that nobody had made it all the way through for years growing up in Wisconsin. It stuck with me, and it wasn’t until years later that I learned it was actually an urban legend. I was fascinated by the notion that I was so fooled, and got to...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Terror Films. This critic has worked on some publicity for this title. **there are spoilers here. Director/writer: Tyler Christensen. Cast: Torey Michael Adkins, Laura Coover, Aaron Galvin, Brian Krause and Marika Engelhardt. House or Purgatory is a recent horror release from Terror Films and first time director Tyler Christensen. Filmed partly in Wisconsin, the film's central story is based on an urban legend. At a haunted house attraction, participants can get there money back, if they can get through the scariest attraction, ever built! Christensen sets a consistent dramatic, horrifying tone. However, the moral of his story is muddied along the way. The setting is supposed to be Purgatory, but the evidence suggests that this is Hell. Yet, none of characters are the typical sinners. The film's story would have been more cohesive, if Christensen would have stuck...

House of Purgatory Normally casual horror fans get excited about whatever big horror film is opening up that week at their local multiplex Sure, I get excited by a few of those films. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, starring Katie Holmes, is one of the most anticipated horror films of the year for me. However, the horror film that I am looking forward to the most out of any one single title this year goes to Tyler Christensen's directorial debut of "House of Purgatory", starring Brian Krause of the hit TV show Charmed & Sleepwalkers.
House of Purgatory The film's unique storyline is what got me. I found myself intrigued by what they could possibly do with it. Very rarely do I get excited by a premise alone, but House of Purgatory got me hook, line and sinker. House of Purgatory deals with an urban legend surrounding a haunted...
