All eyes were on Zendaya as she stepped out in a flapper-esque vintage Roberto Cavalli dress at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards on Wednesday night at 1 Hotel’s Harriet’s in West Hollywood.
As co-chair of the event, which also drew Chrissy Teigen, Helen Hunt, Jennifer Coolidge, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Annie Lennox, Zendaya has long embraced vintage for red carpet appearances.
Most impressively, her last look — a chrome suit of armor from Mugler’s Fall Winter 1995 couture collection — reportedly generated $13.3 million in media exposure after wearing the piece to the Dune: Part Two premiere in London.
To mark this occasion, she rocked a silver roaring twenties-inspired gown from Cavalli’s spring 2011 collection. But the night was about much more than just sustainable sartorial selections.
“Fashion has always been a lens that we use to look at the world,” the awards show’s founder Livia Firth explained. “When you want...

There was a scary moment during ESPN‘s pre-game coverage of Real Madrid versus AC Milan on Sunday (July 23) when analyst Shaka Hislop fainted and collapsed live on air. The former soccer star, who played as a goalkeeper for the English clubs Newcastle United and West Ham United, was talking with co-host Dan Thomas on the field ahead of Sunday’s game when he began wobbling before falling forward and collapsing. Thomas appeared visibly shaken as his colleague fell face-first in front of him. “Shak,” Thomas yelled before calling for help. A number of nearby staff members ran over before the cameras cut away from the scene. The frightening moment left viewers concerned about Hislop’s well-being, with many offering their thoughts and prayers. Omg Shaka… hope he’s fine. @Espnfc @DanThomasESPN @ShakaHislop pic.twitter.com/CfkviwSTJe — Naman (@iamN7) July 24, 2023 Thomas later took to Twitter to update fans, telling them,...

If you’ve heard a shambolic percussion rattle echo across the Great Plains recently, do not be alarmed. Those are merely the desultory remains of Anita Bryant whirlybirding against the lead-lined insides of her rococo vampire coffin at the ushering in of yet another Pride Month. But the annual month-long celebration of queerness isn’t just about cynically rolling one’s eyes at the newly-refreshed-and-rainbow-ized corporate logos sprouting up on social media. As good-guy ally and country-rock troubadour Jason Isbell tweeted last week: “Pride. Victory of the human spirit and the only antidote to the poison of shame.” Or, in other words: slay all day.
This month’s Fiscal Spotlight column is looking at three short narrative projects about complicated, fractured or otherwise incomplete gay relationships–sex of course being an inextricable element of the drama dynamics. Dub and reggae pioneer Jah Shaka has died, his family have confirmed.
Fans said the singer, producer and label owner also known as Zulu Warrior was “the greatest soundman that ever lived”.
Shaka was at the helm of sound system culture in London, releasing some of the scene’s most seminal records and spearheading the influential Jah Shaka Sound System, which he began operating and touring in the 1970s.
His precise age and cause of death have not been disclosed. He continued to perform and tour his system up to his death.
Shaka moved to London from Jamaica as a child in the late 1950s as part of the Windrush generation. In a 2014 Red Bull Music Academy lecture, he spoke about the importance of music to his contemporaries as they tried to settle in a new, and often hostile, place.

Antoine Fuqua might have been known best for his big screen blockbuster work, but in the past few years, he's made a pretty triumphant transition to streaming. Of course, it took some "adjusting" on the director's part — with the Mark Wahlberg starrer "Infinite" quietly released on Paramount+, and the Jake Gyllenhaal-led thriller "The Guilty" making a similar debut on Netflix — but Fuqua has since found a major groove with television. With producer credits on the celebrated "Mayor of Kingstown" and the recent release of Prime Video series "The Terminal List," Fuqua is enjoying the freedom that long-form entertainment affords.
"I found it to be a really positive thing," Fuqua told /Film's Jack Giroux. The freedom of the new streaming landscape reminds the filmmaker of the risk-taking on display in the '70s. "You got a chance to just come in and try some things and be brave," Fuqua added,...
