I'll never forget my first encounter with local comedian Zach Anner in 2004. He was trying to get the attention of Ron Perlman after the special SXSW screening of Hellboy, and I assisted him through the crowd. Born with cerebral palsy, Anner is wheelchair-bound, which can make it very difficult to navigate film festival crowds. Not only was Anner successful in his celebrity interview, but Perlman stayed until the wee hours of the morning talking with his fans -- what I refer to as "a South By Moment," where personal connections are made to ground oneself during the deafening roar of all things SXSW.
Now it's Anner's turn on the big screen at SXSW -- he gained local notoriety by winning his own show through a competition created by Oprah Winfrey, and has been busy directing and starring in his own films. You can see his work in foolproof, a short...

Robert G. Putka‘s Mouthful and Jared Varava‘s Tumbleweed! are two short films that have been selected to screen at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, which will run in Austin, TX on March 9-17.
Mouthful is Putka’s second short film, a verbally raunchy comedy starring Eilis Cahill and Conor Casey as a young couple whose relationship becomes strained thanks to an overly frank discussion about their sexual histories. The film was recently reviewed on Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film saying “one shouldn’t assume too much how the premise of a young man and woman discussing [male] anatomy will play out.”
Putka has also mounted an IndieGoGo campaign to help fund his filmmaking team’s trip to SXSW and for marketing material, such as posters, T-shirts, press kits and such. If you want to help out, please visit the Mouthful IndieGoGo page.
Tumbleweed! is the latest collaboration between...

Siri The Holiday Horror Movie Trailer. Rooster Teeth‘s Siri: The Holiday Horror Movie trailer stars Barbara Dunkelman, Marshall Rimmer, Michael Jones, Chris Demarais, and Joel Heyman. Siri: The Holiday Horror Movie plot synopsis: a group of friends get the iPhone 4Ss for Christmas unaware that the Siri assistant within the phone has a blood thirst.
Video tagline: “Beware the upgrade…..” This faux movie trailer is hilarious. The knife scene was probably one of the funniest moments. I couldn’t figure out if the iPhone4S was possessed by a demon or if Siri (the phone’s preloaded virtual assistant) was the evil force and had been evil all along. Regardless, it is very entertaining and Rooter Team did a good job on it.

Created by Brad Anner, Zach Anner, Jordan Crowder, Chris Demarais, Aaron Marquis and Marshall Rimmer (all but Brad star in the show) The Wingmen suffers from a few things, not the least of which is the length of each episode. It’s quite possible that the several creative voices making this show also creates a preciousness that allows things to stay in that should be long gone or at the very least cut way down. The show has its fans out there though, with enough of them rallying behind the boys to net it a Streamy nomination earlier this year for the Audience Choice award.
