Sherwin Akbarzadeh is an Iranian-born, Australian-raised, ACS-accredited cinematographer.
In 2022, Sherwin completed photography on Shayda, written and directed by Noora Niasari, produced by Vincent Sheehan and executive produced by Cate Blanchett. Shayda screened at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival where it received the Audience Award in the World Cinema Dramatic competition. It went on to screen at TIFF, Locarno closing night, MIFF opening night and received 9 AACTA nominations, one of which was Best Cinematography in Film for Sherwin's contribution.
Also in 2022, Sherwin shot the feature documentary The Giants, a poetic biography of Australia's most iconic environmentalist Bob Brown, directed by Laurence Billiet and Rachel Antony for Matchbox Pictures. For this, Sherwin won the 2023 AACTA Award for Best Cinematography in a Documentary.
Most recently, Sherwin shot the 8-part series Swift Street for SBS, Fifth Season and Magpie Pictures created by Tig Terera and produced by Lois Randall and Ivy Mak. Swift Street premiered at Cannes Series in 2024.
Sherwin is the recipient of 13 ACS awards, including 7 gold and 2 national awards of distinction. In 2021, he received a Shots Asia Pacific Silver Award for Cinematography for Fly Buys - Give A Flybuys. He is represented by The Gersh Agency in the United States and United Agents in the UK and Europe.
