Blake Shelton‘s “God’s Country” was written by a group of country artists. Shelton was not one of them. During an interview, Shelton revealed what it was like hearing the track for the first time. He felt very connected to God in that moment.
Blake Shelton heard ‘God’s Country’ while he was ‘working on the land’ in Oklahoma
During a 2019 interview with The Tennessean, Shelton discussed hearing “God’s Country” for the first time while he was on his farm in Oklahoma. “It was the most shocking moment I’ve had in my 20 years of doing this,” he said. “I was in a place physically that I consider to be God’s country doing the thing that makes me feel the most connected to God, which is working on the land … It’s almost like a chance to stop and catch your breath and go, ‘We’re still all here. We still like this stuff,...

When Jake Owen announced the track list for his upcoming album Loose Cannon, his first in four years, one song’s writing credits stood out above all the others: “On the Boat Again” is credited to Devin Dawson, Kyle Fishman, Rocky Block, Blake Pendergrass and…Willie Nelson. It’s easy to hear why.
“On the Boat Again” borrows the chorus melody of Nelson’s 1980 touring anthem “On the Road Again,” changing the lyrics to summon that most cherished of Southern weekend outings: boat day. “On the boat again/I just...

Zac Brown Band have released a pair of new singles under their new agreement with Warner Bros. Nashville. “Out in the Middle” and “Old Love Song” follow the country vocal band’s recent radio release “Same Boat,” and both were co-written by country superstar Luke Combs.
Penned by Brown and Combs with Ben Simonetti and Jonathan Singleton, “Out in the Middle” is a song of praise for the country lifestyle. With a swampy, rumbling groove that recalls Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Fishin’ in the Dark,” the song checks off...

NBC is developing God’s Country, a drama inspired by Blake Shelton’s hit song of the same name. The project hails from the long-time Voice coach Shelton, Las Vegas creator Gary Scott Thompson and Universal Television.
Written by Thompson, in God’s Country, when the patriarch of a hardworking Midwestern farm family dies mysteriously in a car accident, his grown children discover he was keeping a devastating secret they could never have imagined.
Shelton’s song “God’s Country”, written by Devin Dawson, Hardy and Jordan Schmidt, was released in March 2019. It has gone triple platinum and won Single of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards last week. The song’s official video has been viewed more than 114M times on YouTube alone. (you can watch it below the story.)
Thompson and Shelton executive produce the TV adaptation with Narvel Blackstock (Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas) and Laurie Pozmantier.

Back when he was a fledgling songwriter with a new publishing deal, Michael Hardy was hanging out with his dad and a friend at the Nashville drinking establishment Tin Roof. He had only a few dollars to his name, so he bought a tall Pbr for six bucks and nursed it as slowly as possible. Across the room, he spotted a pretty young woman glancing at her phone and looking around for someone. Summoning his courage, Hardy approached and asked if she’d like to sit with them until her friend arrived.

The Country Music Association went with an all-female hosting lineup for this year’s show, and that woman-celebrating theme continued when nominations for the 53rd annual Cma Awards were announced Wednesday morning: Maren Morris led the pack with six nods.
Morris’ sophomore album, “Girl,” is up for album of the year, while the song of the same name, a recent No. 1 at country radio, is nominated in the single, song and music video categories. Her collaboration with Brothers Osborne, “All My Favorite People,” got a nod for musical event of the year. Morris also received a nomination for female vocalist of the year.
In short, Morris got a nomination in every category she possibly could have — with the exception of entertainer of the year. The Cma continues to reserve that top category for veteran acts with a lot of arena tours under their belt, even if that means leaving out...
