Esha won Miss Photogenic in the Femina Miss India contest in 2007 and featured in the Kingfisher Calendar in 2010, before being spotted and starring in her debut film. She had one of the busiest debut years with not one but three films, Jannat 2, Raaz 3 and Chakravyuh. Just when we thought she’d get the ‘Bhatt girl’ title she surprised us in the last release, a Prakash Jha directorial. Thus far she’s gotten mixed reviews for her performance however her appearance impressed us enough to warrant a position on this countdown.

Chicken With Plums (Poulet Aux Prunes) is an enchanting confection of a movie. I was unexpectedly delighted by this unique movie. It is the follow-up film from co-directors Iranian Marjane Satrapi and Frenchman Vincent Paronnaud to their 2007 film Persepolis, a film I did not see (despite hearing good buzz) as I’m not big on animation; this movie has made me reconsider.
My biggest complaint about this movie is with its title: it refers to a trifling detail in the film, and waiting to discover its significance was distracting. Also, it sounds like a movie about food, non? And even if it were about food, in an age of foodies and Top Chef, it’s not an appealing dish. It’s hard to believe that the imagination is on display on screen couldn’t come up with something more appealing.

This is something that has not gone well with the management of the dargah. In lieu of this, Khan issued a statement on Sunday stating, "Dance and films are taboo in Islam. The talented pair behind 2007's charming, whimsical and fairly hard-hitting animation Persepolis, Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi, have reunited to make a second feature, this time in a live-action format. It's called Chicken With Plums and it's got a new trailer viewable below, courtesy of The Hollywood News. First impressions are "Oooo, that's rather lovely". It's set in a stylised fantasy world that brings Amelie to mind (look out for Jeunet alumnus Jamel Debbouze) but with animated touches familiar from Persepolis. Mathieu Amalric plays violinist Nasser Ali Khan, a man so heartbroken by the destruction of his prize instrument that he takes to his bed and waits for death. Languishing in depression is a lot more magical in Satrapi's graphic novel though, and Khan's revelries take us on an Inception-esque journey into a dream world haunted by angels of death, snow flurries, and, by the looks of things, giant boobies.

If you've had the delight of seeing the Oscar nominated Persepolis a few years ago, you should be interested in this. Chicken with Plums is the latest film from Iranian filmmaker Marjane Satrapi & French artist Vincent Paronnaud - they last directed Persepolis. This live-action whimsical, but dark, drama stars Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace) as a famed violinist who, while counting down the days to his own death, recaps his life and his loves. It played at many festivals including Venice & Tiff, where our friend Jordan Raup of The Film Stage loved it. It's quite charming, even with the Angel of the Death, check it out. Watch the Us trailer for Vincent Paronnaud & Marjane Satrapi's Chicken with Plums, via Apple: Teheran, 1958. Since his beloved violin was broken, Nasser Ali Khan, one of the most renowned musicians of his day, has lost all taste for life. Finding no instrument ...

With three episodes left of Season 5, the tension on "Mad Men" shifted into high gear on Sunday's (May 20) episode, "Christmas Waltz." Here's the one-sentence summary: Don Draper's head is back in the game, Lane Pryce is dancing on the edge of financial ruin (and possibly a precipice) and it turns out that Harry Crane, official Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce d-bag, isn't a total tool after all.
Don's back: At the end of the episode, Don (Jon Hamm) re-engaged in the work of Scdp and it's a good thing because if Don's happy, so goes the firm. What convinced him? A domino effect: Pete (Vincent Kartheiser) suggested Don drive a Jaguar. Thanks to Joan (Christina Hendricks), drunk-driving a Jaguar sports car gets him fired up about the product. Finally, an irate Megan (Jessica Paré) -- who gets his attention by throwing her dinner plate at the wall and ordering him to...

Bollywood has welcomed many children of well established stars into the industry who have had a tough task ahead of them to create a name for themselves. Stars such as, Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor have followed in the footsteps of their parents and grandparents and entered the silver screen.
And it seems the list of star children is to go on if the recent rumours of Sara Ali Khan, daughter of Amrita Singh and Saif Ali Khan, to do a Bollywood film are anything to go by.
Sara who first surfaced alongside her mother Amrita Singh on Hello Magazine India has said to be approached by numerous filmmakers to star her as the leading lady. Her mother Amrita said, “After seeing the magazine cover page, Sara has got many offers. Five eminent filmmakers have approached us and said that they wanted Sara to play the leading lady in their films.

Chicken With Plums (Poulet aux Prunes)
Written by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud
Directed by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud
France, 2011
The last time she adapted her own graphic novel into a film, Marjane Satrapi deftly translated her memoir Persepolis into an animated feature that struck a careful balance between poignant coming-of-age realizations and the often-harsh political and social realities that are part and parcel of growing up amidst political and religious turmoil. This time around, once again joined by co-conspirator Vincent Paronnaud (with whom she shares writing and directing duties), Satrapi tackles what would seem to be nearly as personal a project, a tribute to her great-uncle, but Chicken With Plums doesn’t aim for the kind of cultural specificity and political import of Persepolis; instead, it feels as much a film about the possibilities of film, specifically live-action film, which she here tackles for the first time.

In an industry that always welcomes star kids with open arms, perhaps it's time to lay the red carpet for another one. The young lady being discussed these days in Bollywood is Sara Ali Khan, the 16-year-old vivacious daughter of actor Saif Ali Khan and his first wife Amrita Singh.
Sara had recently graced the cover of Hello! magazine along with her mother in a beautifully embroidered lehenga. It was perhaps the first time that the world saw a different avatar of her and that too in a stunning photoshoot. A new big batch of films have been added to the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival line-up, and while there aren't a lot of big premieres in the bunch, there's a lot to catch up with for those of you (and us) who didn't attend Tiff 2011, Sundance 2012, etc. etc.
Highlights for us include Sarah Polley's sophomore directorial effort "Take This Waltz," starring Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams, Julie Delpy's "2 Days In New York," starring herself and Chris Rock in a sequel to "2 Days in Paris," Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud's "Chicken With Plums," their directorial follow-up to the very excellent 2007 animated film "Persepolis," Lynn Shelton's "Your Sister's Sister" starring Emily Blunt, Rosemarie DeWitt and Mark Duplass, and "Lola Versus," Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister Jones' follow-up to the celebrated 2009 micro-budgeted indie "Breaking Upwards" starring Lister Jones herself alongside Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman (AMC's "The Killing," the new "RoboCop"), Bill Pullman,...
