Thor, the God of Thunder, is one of the most beloved and fan-favorite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While fans love his comic book iteration more, Chris Hemsworth’s live-action Thor is not far behind. After several appearances and four solo movies, Hemsworth’s Thor has a separate fan base among the Marvel fandom.

The upcoming film The Life of Chuck is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Flanagan has let it be known that this isn’t horror, and cast member David Dastmalchian has said the same in a new interview with Gizmodo, describing the film and elements in it as beautiful and heartbreaking.
Dastmalchian, who was also in the recent King adaptation The Boogeyman, said (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “It’s beautiful. You think, ‘Oh, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you’ve ever seen.’ [But] it is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt, the drama, the performances. The cast in this is deep.

Imogene Scott is determined to find the killer in Death and Other Details, but she always ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time. In Episode 3, debuting January 23 on Hulu, Violett Beane‘s amateur sleuth gets caught trying to break into yacht owner Sunil’s (Rahul Kohli) safe at the direction of the has-been detective Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin). TV Insider has an exclusive first look at the moment in the clip above. The hunt for Keith Trubitsky’s (Michael Gladis) killer is on in Episode 3. Interpol Agent Hilde Eriksen (Linda Emond) arrives and takes over the investigation in the installment. Rufus and Imogene stealthily investigate Collier Mills with Sunil’s help. Meanwhile, Anna (Lauren Patten) does her best to get the billion-dollar deal with the Chuns back on track. In the clip above, Imogene tries to turn this would-be-incriminating moment into a pitch to get Sunil involved in her and Rufus’ investigation.

“Pay attention: Details matter,” growls a heavily accented Mandy Patinkin as detective Rufus Cotesworth in the opening seconds of “Death and Other Details,” created by Heidi Cole McAdams and Mike Weiss. There’s more to the quote — hours, and hours, in fact, of droll monologues about perception and detection throughout the series — but Hulu and ABC Signature’s new show appears to have skimped heavily on attention to detail, resulting in a product so shallow, so ramshackle, that it borders on unwatchable.
To its detriment, “Death and Other Details” is not as much about Rufus Cotesworth (a character who will only be referred to by his delightful full name throughout this piece), but about Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), who met him as a child while he was investigating her mother’s death. The orphaned Imogene was taken in by the Colliers, a family of the kind of wealth that outwardly...

It isn’t just you. We’re two weeks into the new year and every show on TV has become a murder mystery.
There are reality murder mysteries (Traitors) and animated murder mysteries (Grimsburg) and British murder mysteries (Criminal Record) and occult murder mysteries (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale). There are murder mysteries without daylight (True Detective: Night Country) and adapted recent murder mysteries (Fool Me Once) and adapted characters in original murder mysteries (Monsieur Spade).
Those are just January premieres. So far. There’ll be at least one more new murder mystery before the end of the week (The Woman in the Wall).
It’s easy to point to the blockbuster success of the two Knives Out movies and the steady success of the Kenneth Branagh/Michael Green-steered Hercule Poirot movies as a business-driven cause.
Sociologically, it’s easy to point to a decade of distrust of institutional policing...

“Memory is a motherfucker,” detective Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin) declares in Hulu’s Death and Other Details. Humans, he means, are prone to accidental forgetfulness, self-indulgence, and, on occasion, trauma-driven memory loss. How, then, will Rufus, the so-called “World’s Greatest Detective,” crack a case that relies on both his own and witnesses’ memories over the last 20 years?
The inciting incident is the murder of entitled richling Keith Trubitsky (Michael Gladis) aboard a luxury ocean liner, establishing an Agatha Christie-style closed circle of suspects, as the killer must be on the ship. Trubitsky, it turns out, was invited as a friend of the Colliers, whose family business is on the brink of financial ruin. They chartered the boat as a last-ditch attempt to schmooze potential investors, the Chun family, who’ve hired Rufus to do due diligence.
Rufus has his own agenda: to finally solve the 20-year-old murder case of the Colliers’ former assistant.

Murder mystery drama Death And Other Details is heading to Disney+ – and the show even has a new trailer! Have a gander within.
Michael Weiss has been a producer and screenwriter on many successful shows, including Chicago P.D, The Mentalist and the terrific Cobie Smulders private eye comedy drama Stumptown, which sadly only ran for a single series but is well worth watching. It’s currently streaming on Disney+.
Weiss is now co-showrunner of Death And Other Details, a murder mystery drama series heading to Hulu in the US and Disney+ in other territories, including the UK. It looks like a cross between Death On The Nile and The White Lotus, which is a pretty good hybrid if you ask us.

During an interview last week, Tom Hiddleston (Loki) confirmed that his work on the film The Life of Chuck – the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – was complete. Flanagan has since taken to social media to confirm that filming has wrapped completely… and to let us know that The Life of Chuck is not a horror movie. Which makes sense, since we’ve previously heard that the movie will be similar in tone to the likes of Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile (and Hiddleston himself compared it to The Shawshank Redemption).

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) is headed back into the world of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, and Flanagan has announced that production has wrapped.
Perhaps what’s more notable here is that Flanagan’s announcement thread highlights what to expect. Or rather, what not to expect: The Life of Chuck won’t be a horror movie.
That’s probably not a surprise to those familiar with the source short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked together to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
Flanagan said, “Now I’m back to LA to edit (cannot wait), and start the long road of expectation setting that The Life of Chuck isn’t a horror movie.” The...

Mike Flanagan – who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – recently went into production on another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck… and now, during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, star Tom Hiddleston (Loki) has confirmed that his work on the film has been completed. While talking about the film, Hiddleston also compared it to one of the most popular King adaptations, The Shawshank Redemption!

Horror enthusiasts have another reason to celebrate as Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Life of Chuck‘ takes shape. Initially teasing fans with big names such as Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, and Karen Gillan, the excitement intensified with the inclusion of horror legends Heather Langenkamp and Matthew Lillard.
It’s interesting to note that this isn’t the first collaboration between Flanagan and Langenkamp. They previously teamed up for Netflix’s ‘The Midnight Club,’ which aired back in 2022. While Langenkamp’s return to Flanagan’s fold has garnered attention, the addition of Matthew Lillard, famed for roles in ‘Scream’ and ‘Thirteen Ghosts,’ further beefs up the roster.
And the surprises don’t end there. Mia Sara, remembered fondly from ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Out,’ makes a significant comeback after a hiatus from the limelight. Others joining the project include David Dastmalchian, Harvey Guillén, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Antonio Raul Corbo,...

When it was first announced that Mike Flanagan – who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – would be directing another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, there were two actors already attached to the project: Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars). Once filming got underway in Alabama earlier this month (the independent production was able to secure a SAG interim agreement that allows it to film while the Screen Actors Guild strike is still going on), it was revealed that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Jacob Tremblay (The Predator) are also in the cast. And now Flanagan has taken to social media to reveal the names of the rest of the characters – a list that includes A Nightmare on Elm Street...

With Mike Flanagan’s latest, the Edgar Allen Poe-inspired The Fall of the House of Usher, production designer Laurin Kelsey had a lot of houses on her hands.
The Netflix horror series goes full-tilt into Poe, complete with episode titles referencing one of his notable works, and the main home of the series’ patriarch (played by Bruce Greenwood) being a twist on the one featured in the late writer’s original short story. It also stars Mary McDonnell, Henry Thomas, T’Nia Miller, Samantha Sloyan, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, Sauriyan Sapkota, Kyliegh Curran, Carla Gugino, Carly Lumbly, Zack Gilford and Willa Fitzgerald.
The Fall of the House of Usher follows the lives (and deaths) that surround siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher, the ruthless founders of the Fortunato Pharmaceuticals empire. Literally built on the pain of others, their family’s wealth, privilege and power...

Mike Flanagan, the filmmaker behind Netflix horror shows like "The Haunting of Hill House," "Midnight Mass," and the recently released "The Fall of the House of Usher," has a stable of actors he uses over and over again. Folks like Carla Gugino, Kate Sigel, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas, and more. It's fun to see these actors pop up again and again in Flanagan's work, and it is just as fun when he adds a new player to the mix. One such new player is none other than Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. In "House of Usher," Hamill plays Arthur Pym, attorney and fixer to the infamous Usher family.
Hamill is clearly having a lot of fun with the role, adopting a gruff voice and playing the morally dubious Pym as a weird little guy. Hamill fits in perfectly with Flanagan's usual ensemble, and he makes the most of his limited...

“The Fall of the House of Usher” star Rahul Kohli expressed his gratitude to the crew of the Mike Flanagan’s horror miniseries released last week on Netflix — but did so without technically breaking the rules of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
“When a film or series is released its usually an opportunity not only for self-promotion and promotion for our work, but a celebration of the collective efforts of everyone involved and a moment to show our appreciation for our crew,” Kohli wrote on Instagram Tuesday.
Kohli did not call out “The Fall of the House of Usher” by its name at any point in the statement, instead noting that “the release of our most recent project coincided with the ongoing strikes.” As he recognized crew teams from across the production, he insisted that his message is not a “promotion” of the show, which would break the strike rules instituted by the actors’ guild.

This article contains spoilers for The Fall of the House of Usher.
The Fall of the House of Usher features many gruesome deaths as each member of the Usher family is killed in equally bizarre ways. But for all of the blood and gore we see throughout the series, there’s one death in particular that left some viewers worried about the fate of a furry member of the Usher clan. Thankfully though, series creator Mike Flanagan reassured fans that not everything is what it seems in episode 4.
Episode 4 titled “The Black Cat” focuses on Napoleon “Leo” Usher’s (Rahul Kohli) death and is based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story of the same name. The episode begins with Leo finding his partner Julius’ (Daniel Jun) cat Pluto brutally murdered. Acclaimed horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan wears his influences on his sleeve. Based on his prolific output of TV shows and films, Flanagan clearly loves: Stephen King, classic horror literature, and most touchingly, his wife Kate Siegel (who has appeared in nearly every Flanagan project thus far).
Real Flana-heads know, however, that there’s one other thing the writer-director can’t get enough of: monologues. Oh, the monologues! Flanagan’s suite of Netflix series, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and most recently The Fall of the House of Usher have all been shockingly chatty endeavors. Though the horror maestro excels at conjuring dread with his camera work alone, Flanagan can’t seem to help himself from crafting bespoke, discursive diatribes around all the creepiness.
On the one hand, this is quite charming as Flanagan clearly loves watching his recurring crew of talented actors work at their craft.

The Fall of the House of Usher showrunner Mike Flanagan has been largely keeping quiet amid the rollout of his latest Netflix horror series, but he took to Twitter/X late last week to clarify a burning question from a fan. And if you’re going to take a single question from the internet, it might as well be about a cat.
The question: “What did cats ever do to you?” in reference to episode four’s gory battle between the ill-fated Leo (Rahul Kohli) and a black cat named Pluto in a story that’s loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe’s short story “The Black Cat.”
Flanagan wanted to make it clear that after the cat goes missing, the menacing replacement cat he adopts is entirely a hallucination caused by the mysterious Verna (Carla Gugino) and that Pluto is alive and well.
“Okay. So… ‘The Black Cat’ was written by Edgar Allan Poe,...

Mike Flanagan is back with his new horror series, The Fall of the House of Usher, an adaptation of the famous Edgar Allan Poe short story, and as you would expect, he has pretty much delivered it. It does have all the familiar traits of Flanagan’s work, along with a dash of snarky, Succession-like humor. The series has at least two standout acting performances, which is also something we get to see in most Flanagan projects. With The Fall of the House of Usher now out in the open, I thought it was a good time to make a list of the best acting performances in Mike Flanagan movies and series. We have picked ten performances, and believe me, it was not an easy thing to do.

Mike Flanagan’s creative partnership with Netflix has produced several memorable pieces of art over the last several years. His latest project for the streaming service, the gothic horror series “The Fall of the House of Usher,” is yet another that will have viewers talking.
The eight-episode drama skillfully blends the work and imagery of Edgar Allen Poe with a timely narrative about the Usher family, a privileged group who own a pharmaceutical company that is largely responsible for the current opioid crisis. Bruce Greenwood leads the cast as Roderick Usher, the patriarch who must confront his past in the wake of the violent deaths of all of his children. Joining Greenwood are several actors who’ve starred in Flanagan’s previous Netflix series, including Carla Gugino, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Henry Thomas and Zach Gilford, and new additions like Mary McDonnell and Mark Hamill, who turn in fantastic performances in the gripping tale.

Anyone who’s read Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher” knew the Netflix series was going to end with horror, vengeance and a dilapidating house symbolizing the ruin of a once-great family. Roderick Usher’s got more family members than a raven has feathers. So let’s make like Mirabel Madrigal and kick off this recap of The Fall of the House of Usher’s premiere episode with a round of introductions.
We’ll start with the man himself, Roderick (played by Bruce Greenwood, The Resident) and his twin sister, Madeline (Mary McDonnell, Battlestar Galactica), the heads of a pharmaceutical company that has made billions off its patented opioid painkiller. Madeline has no children but Roderick has many: Frederick (Henry Thomas, The Haunting of Hill House), the eldest offspring, yet a manchild; Tamerlane (Samantha Sloyan,...

This post contains spoilers for "The Fall of the House of Usher."
Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" may only be a few thousand words long, but in Mike Flanagan's sprawling and savage new Netflix series, it takes a whole lot longer for the members of House Usher to reach their ultimate fate. Across the series' eight episodes, members of the wealthy pharmaceutical family die disturbing and complex deaths at the hands of a curse patriarch Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) and his sister Madeline (Mary McDonnell) agreed to years ago. In a clever twist, though, each death ties back to a famous (or lesser-known) story or poem from the famously bleak author, all of them reimagined for a modern audience.
Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of Usher" is entertaining whether or not you recognize the stories behind its goriest moments, but the filmmaker...

The Fall of the House of Usher is filmmaker Mike Flanagan’s gloriously morbid remix of author Edgar Allen Poe’s best-known stories and poems, and it’s winning raves from critics (with a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes). Even those totally unfamiliar with Poe probably found some glimmer of recognition amid the show’s nods to his best-known tales — such as “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Raven” and “The Cask of Amontillado” — given how Poe’s stories have threaded through pop culture over the last 175 years or so.
But even Poe superfans probably couldn’t spot all the references — because there are dozens scattered throughout the show’s eight Gothic episodes.
So here they are (The Hollywood Reporter compiled this based on notes supplied by the show’s production team — I’m not going to pretend to be this smart; also, there’s always a chance that a...

Spoilers for "The Fall of the House of Usher" follow.
As horror filmmaker Mike Flanagan has gone from production to production, he's assembled a wholesale acting troupe along the way. Kate Siegel (his wife), Henry Thomas, Carla Gugino, Bruce Greenwood, Carl Lumbly, Michael Trucco, Rahul Kohli, Annabeth Gish — they're all in Flanagan's latest, "The Fall of the House of Usher," and if you look back through his filmography, you'll recognize their faces somewhere.
That said, Flanagan always includes a few actors who are new to him, and "House of Usher" is no different. One of those new faces is one that's otherwise eminently familiar: Mark Hamill. Like the rest of the main cast, Hamill's part is named after an Edgar Allan Poe character. In his case, the eponymous protagonist of "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket."
In Flanagan's "House of Usher," Pym is the titular family's ruthless lawyer...
