As a Hunger Games fan since 2008, I have to admit that I was considerably nervous at the screening last night. I mean, all the interviews and teaser clips and trailers and images seemed to indicate that Gary Ross was getting things right, but I was still holding my breath. I’ve been burned before. So, yeah, the tension headache I had on my ride home was caused as much by that suspense as by anything Seneca Crane cooked up for the 74th annual games. But I’m here to tell you that my fears were unfounded. I mean, it wasn’t a flawless movie, of course, but it was exactly the right movie. If you want to be surprised by All the ways in which it is right, stop reading now. But if you want to alleviate your own tension headache, read on. This will not be too spoilery for...

It’s a desperate ploy for higher ratings, not that the X Factor really needs it, but bosses have reportedly decided to make the new series of the ITV show, even more outrageous than before.
The Sun today reports that producers have booked a luxury mansion in which to host the bootcamp stage of the competition, where contestants will be supplied with booze in the evening. Add this to the new hidden cameras that have been introduced and already the lines between this show and Big Brother are starting to blur.
This is said to be exactly what bosses want and an insider told the newspaper that executives want the new X factor run to resemble a “cross between Big Brother and The Only Way Is Essex”.
“They will be bringing in inflatables and plenty of booze. They feel the public has tired of the original X Factor format,” the source added.

I'll give it to the Log Cabin Republicans, they have been persistent and successful fighting Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and yesterday they scored a victory by having the stay of the judgment blocking enforcement lifted, halting any and all discharges under the policy, unless President Obama appeals.
Should we be counting it as a victory that the National Enquirer is gossiping about gay celebrities just like any other? Because now they're reporting that Lance Bass is marrying Lorenzo Martone with Justin Timberlake as his best man.
The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, disappointing my copy editors immensely, because they know I'll never be able to spell that consistently. It's also bad news for NBC, who owns the TV rights to something they won't be able to air live due to the time difference.
The National Organization for Marriage has been told yet again, this time in Minnesota, that...

James Mitchell’s Shortbus was the mark of controversy in 2009, what with its real sex scenes, the potential firing of its star Sook Yin Lee by the CBC and its classification by some as ‘pornographic’. What the movie is, is an intimate and lively portrayal of a women lost amongst the interconnectedness of people in a city as well as the unique and faceted sexual identities of individuals and how each choose to reveal themselves as person and partner. The main plot is about Sophie– a woman who is a couple counselor/sex therapist who has never had a successful orgasm and attempts to find it through a weekly social and sexual salon called Shortbus.
This film is honest and sincere and that is exactly what is reflected back within the soundtrack amongst its eclectic mix of artists. Scott Matthew is utterly charming and earnest with his contribution ‘Upside Down...

We're looking past the surface with another round of True Beauty, premiering its second season tonight on ABC. The hidden cameras are back, and so are the lying, cheating, individuals they focus on. But among these notorious contestants, there's bound to be one who's beautiful in and out. Hopefully, anyway.
Meet the Contestants of True Beauty Season 2
Tonight on "The Stealing Challenge," we're introduced to the ten people who believe they've been chosen as contenders in The Face of Vegas. Of course this is all a ruse, and they're being watched not for their looks but for their attitude.

The Hidden Cameras’ 2006 album Awoo was a breakthrough of sorts, refining the florid, giddy sex fantasies of the band’s early albums into something more controlled and classically pop-minded. The follow-up, Origin: Orphan, was recorded in Berlin, and takes the tightness of Awoo one step further, toward an almost Teutonic austerity. The album opens with the six-minute “Ratify The New,” which starts with a prolonged, droning fanfare—almost like the kickoff to a Vegas act—and proceeds through a swirling Eastern European vamp, reminiscent of John Cale. Origin: Orphan finds bandleader Joel Gibb relying a lot on repetition, expressed ...
