What’s old is new again, as Sony and Disney are both poised to take action fans back into the wilds of Sherwood Forest with competing takes on Robin Hood. A few months back, Sony revealed plans for a new adventure titled Hood. The film would be the first installment in what the company hoped would become a “shared universe” franchise featuring the legendary character (as a side note, maybe someone can convince Hollywood that not everything needs to be a “shared” or “cinematic universe” these days. It’s okay for a movie to stand alone). Now we’ve learned that it won’t be the only company looking to reunite Robin with his band of merry men. Disney has purchased a script from screenwriter Brandon Barker that looks to put...

As Hollywood continues to reach back into its storied past for reboot and remake ideas, it was only a matter of time before the ever popular (and public domain) character of Robin Hood made his reappearance on the scene. There are right now not one but two Robin Hood-based films in the works. The first comes from Sony, who just paid a whole lot of money for a Robin Hood reimagining. Now, Disney is getting in on the fun with Nottingham & Hood, a live-action version of our favorite archer.
We actually know very little about Nottingham & Hood, which was written by first-timer Brandon Barker. The script is said to be a “revisionist” take on the Hood story, and something like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (we hope that means the first film and not the increasingly inexplicable sequels).

Back in October we caught wind of a pitch by writer Corey Goodman (Priest, The Last Witch Hunter) and Jeremy Lott that Sony was eager to scoop up. The pitch was that of Hood; a Robin Hood film in the vein of Mission: Impossible and the recent Fast And Furious films with potential for spin-off films fearing the Merry Men. Not content to stand idly by while Sony plunder the apparent Robin Hood booty, Disney has optioned Brandon Barker's take entitled Notthingham & Hood. While...

Who knew that Robin Hood was still so popular? Less than five years after Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe collaborated on their own version of the heroic outlaw and just a few months after Sony purchased their own script based on him too, Disney announced that they.ve purchased another Robin Hood spec script. According to Deadline, Disney has purchased Brandon Barker.s spec script Nottingham & Hood, which has been described as a revisionist take on the Sherwood Forest legend. It.s been alleged that the intended blockbuster has the same tone as Pirates Of The Caribbean, and the studio is quietly confident that it can blossom into a fully-fledged action-adventure franchise that also fits in with Disney.s global brand. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are the duo who will produce Nottingham & Hood through The Picture Company. This is actually Brandon Barker.s first ever screenplay. Well, the first...

Disney is already competing with Warner Bros. since the studios both have their own adaptations of The Jungle Book heading to theaters, and now the studio will go head-to-head with Sony Pictures with another classic property. Deadline reports Disney is developing their own new adaptation of the classic hero Robin Hood with a spec script called Nottingham & Hood from first-time writer Brandon Barker. The project is described as a Pirates of the Caribbean style approach to the story (because of course it is) of the Sherwood Forest hero who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. I suppose that could be pretty fun. At the very least, it sounds different than the Sony Pictures approach, where the studio envisions creating a Marvel style universe for all the Robin Hood characters to exists and likely get their own movies. But that's also part of the overwhelming trend to build...

A new live-action Disney Robin Hood film is in the works.
The studio is looking to launch a Pirates of the Caribbean-esque franchise with the project, Deadline reports.
Disney has acquired the rights to the screenplay Nottingham & Hood from Brandon Barker.
The Robin Hood story has been the focus of many films, including Disney's 1973 animated classic Robin Hood, 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Russell Crowe's 2010 film Robin Hood.
Elsewhere, Sony Pictures recently parted with a seven-figure sum to acquire the rights to Hood, a pitch by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott.
The project would centre on the legendary outlaw and his Merry Men, with films focusing on characters like Little John, Friar Tuck and Will Scarlett.

Disney Pictures has acquired the Brandon Barker spec "Nottingham & Hood" with plans to turn it into a potential adventure franchise launcher that fits in with Disney's global brand.
The revisionist take on the Robin Hood legend is said to have a "Pirates of the Caribbean" style tone. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman will produce through their The Picture Company label.
The project follows in the wake of Sony Pictures picking up Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott's script pitch about the character earlier this year.

The names Disney and Robin Hood in the same sentence may well cast your minds immediately to an animated fox causing trouble for a hapless lion and his snake henchman. That may all be about to change, however, since Disney has put a brand new Robin Hood project into development. The Mouse House has snapped up Nottingham And Hood: a spec screenplay by newcomer Brandon Barker. There are few details so far about the thrust of the story, but buckles, it's fair to say, are likely to be swashed. The scuttlebutt is that Barker's is a revisionist take on the venerable English legend, and that Disney are looking at a Pirates Of The Caribbean tone and a possible new franchise.Nottingham And Hood is, of course, not the only Robin Hood project currently in the works. Sony recently paid top dollar for Hood, from a pitch by Cory Goodman (Priest,...
