The Game Awards 2020 concluded its cavalcade of celebrity cameos, The Last of Part 2 awards, and Fortnite cameo reveals with a teaser trailer for BioWare’s next entry into the Mass Effect franchise.
The trailer doesn’t offer many details (another trend of the evening), but it does feature some sweeping views of space coupled with grand ramblings that conclude with an Asari digging through the snow of an ice planet and uncovering a remnant of discarded N7 armor. The implication is that this is Shepard’s armor and that we’re viewing the aftermath of Mass Effect 3‘s stunning conclusion which seemingly unraveled the fabric of the Mass Effect universe.
The trailer concludes with the Mass Effect title card hovering above the text “will continue.” It’s designed to be a teaser for the next Mass Effect game, but at this point, it’s starting to feel like more of a threat.

A new report sheds light on the many obstacles BioWare faced during the development of Anthem.
Anthem, BioWare's latest game, launched with quite a few issues, including bugs, long load times, an unbalanced loot system, and uninspired missions -- all of which shaped the title's tepid reception -- and now a lengthy report from Kotaku gives us a window into what happened behind the scenes. Unsurprisingly, this tale involves poor working conditions, indecisive leadership, and a major publisher's unrealistic expectations.
At the forefront of Kotaku's report is the lack of decision-making during Anthem's development, a long, more than 6-year process that saw the project go through various iterations of gameplay and storytelling. The people BioWare put in place after game director Casey Hudson left the studio to pursue other opportunities (he returned in 2017 to become BioWare's general manager) could not nail down a clear direction for the game,...

Anthem might not be the BioWare game you were hoping for, but this third-person action game is still a lot of fun.
Few studios have more passionate fans than BioWare’s, most of whom fell into their fandom because of Mass Effect and, to perhaps a lesser extent, Dragon Age. Anthem, the Canadian studio’s anticipated new IP, has engendered trepidation among a number of fans due to the lukewarm critical reception to Mass Effect: Andromeda and the fact that, in early trailers, Anthem appeared to be an action-based game that wouldn’t offer the same interpersonal, dialogue-driven intrigue the studio has become known and lauded for since the days of Baldur's Gate and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Which is to say, fans demanding romance will find that, in Anthem, love most certainly isn’t in the air.
Instead, the air is an open...

Executive producer Mark Darrah has been fielding numerous questions about “Anthem” on Twitter this month. The upcoming BioWare game served as the centerpiece for EA’s June 9 press conference ahead of E3.
It's time for my Ask Me Almost Anything About Anthem!
Technically, you Can ask me anything, but I can't Answer everything… yet.
Let's kick off the #Amaaaa now!

Here’s what we’ve learned so far:
Freelancers’ Javelin exosuits are between seven and ten feet tall. The player’s thrusters generate heat during flight, so they’ll have to land their Javelin periodically to cool them down. Leveling up will allow players to fly for longer distances. You’ll be able to create the look of your human character, but BioWare has put more effort into customization of the various Javelin exosuits. Weapons and most abilities will be tied to custom loadouts specific to each Javelin type,...

The world of “Anthem” will be plagued by “violent storms” and “mutated creatures,” BioWare teased on Saturday. The developer gave players new story details and a closer look at the game’s world with pre-recorded gameplay footage shown at EA Play.
BioWare general manager Casey Hudson explained that the game is neither an Mmo nor a multiplayer game with bits of lore “bolted on,” but rather a shared world intended to facilitate the kinds of narrative-rich experiences BioWare’s past successes are known for.
“A great story, for BioWare, is about characters you can have a connection with, [and] choices that you make,” said executive producer Mark Darrah. And that story will be told through live content updates. “We’re also designing [the game] so that we can add story for years to come,” lead writer Cathleen Rootsaert added. While the game world is meant, narratively speaking, to be an ever-changing landscape, the...

EA is promising lots of “Anthem” coverage ahead of E3. In a blog post on Friday morning, the publisher broke down its plans for EA Play, a three-day event to be held from June 9 to June 11 at the Hollywood Palladium. The event will kick off with an “Anthem”-focused broadcast on June 9 at 11 a.m. Pt.
The press conference will begin with a “detailed look” at “Anthem’s” gameplay, including an all-new trailer. “You’ll get a glimpse into the story, characters, and monsters that bring the game to life,” EA says. The blog post teases a focus on combat, flying mechanics, and loot — systems we haven’t really seen in action yet.
BioWare’s showcase will also include a behind-the-scenes glimpse at some of the concept art, design, and worldbuilding that’s gone into the project. “The dev team at BioWare has been hard at work, and now they...

A new Dragon Age game is definitely on the way...
BioWare writer Alexis Kennedy confirmed to Eurogamer that he is working on a project related to the Dragon Age franchise.
"There are huge differences between all of that and what I'm working on at BioWare," said Kennedy on his current role before adding, "which I can now legitimately say is in the Dragon Age franchise although it has been known for a while."
In truth, it's really only been suspected that Kennedy was working on a new Dragon Age game. Previously, some believed that he was working with the Dragon Age team on a new project. However, many felt confident that Kennedy was helping pen the next Dragon Age adventure. Kennedy himself acknowledges what a poorly kept secret this has been:
"Notionally it was a secret but, because of who I was working with, everyone who cared knew.

As we suspected, it appears BioWare has been locked in to an exclusivity agreement with the recently-released Jaws of Hakkon for Dragon Age: Inquisition that prevents the studio from revealing the Dlc’s release date for other platforms.
Jaws of Hakkon, which acts as the RPG’s first story-centric RPG, launched across PC and Xbox One on March 24. Though there was nary a mention of a release date for PlayStation platforms, or even Xbox 360. However, the game’s executive producer Mark Darrah has been addressing fan concerns via Twitter, revealing that he is unable to break an embargo on the release date due to a prior arrangement.
We can not discuss when Jaws of Hakkon will be coming on other platforms

@ImHimTheButcher I do not have that ability without violating an in place agreement.

With all the furor surrounding Mass Effect 3′s ending, EA have come out with some further sombre news regarding their now almost forgotten fantasy RPG, Dragon Age II. When asked on Twitter about whether the game would be getting an Ultimate Edition, the game’s executive producer Mark Darrah replied:
‘retailers have to be willing to take it. There isn’t any retail interest Atm.’
There it is then, it would appear that the game has breathed its last commercial breath. While by no means an awful game, Dragon Age II was heavily criticised upon release for simplifying the intricate gameplay and storyline that made Dragon Age: Origins so popular. The game sold poorly compared to expectations, and was quickly condemned to bargains bins at most major game retailers. On the bright side, rather than waste time flogging this dead horse, Bioware can now look ahead to making the...

Bioware has cancelled the planned Dragon Age 2: The Exalted March Dlc that was supposed to be released sometime this spring and have officially moved on to the next Dragon Age game.
Mark Darrah the executive producer of the Dragon Age series had this to say:
“While we will still be keeping an eye out for any issues that might crop up in Daii and supporting the community should any emergencies should arise, we’re moving the entire team’s focus to the next phase of Dragon Age’s future.
“You’ve most certainly heard the rumors floating around, and unfortunately I can’t really comment on them, However, what I can say is that we’ve been thinking a lot about Dragon Age – what it means, and where it could go. This past year, we’ve spent a lot of time both going back to the ‘BioWare vault’ of games and re-examining them,...

BioWare has stopped future development of Dragon Age 2 content as the team focuses on the next game in the series. In a post on BioWare's forums, Dragon Age 2 executive producer Mark Darrah revealed that the latest patch would be the last update for the game.
