The Daily Show will look a little different when viewers tune in on Monday night.
Instead of Jon Stewart, who has been anchoring the Comedy Central show on Mondays for the past two months, correspondent Jordan Klepper will be behind the desk this Monday. He’ll continue as host on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Stewart will close out the week on Thursday night.
The schedule for this week is an inverse of how The Daily Show has operated since Stewart’s return in February — he has anchored the show on Mondays, and members of the show’s news team have held down the rest of the week.
The switch is likely to be for this week only. Stewart is slated to be a guest on John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in L.A. on Netflix this week, a set of live talk shows that are part of the streamer’s...

“We’ve all failed in our lives, but have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?” Minhaj mused yesterday at the Netflix is a Joke comedy festival.
“I saved a dying institution,” Minhaj added. “You’re welcome.”
For those not following along, after an extended on-air audition process, Comedy Central had reportedly chosen Minhaj to be Trevor Noah’s successor at The Daily Show last summer and planned to make the announcement at the conclusion of the Writers Strike.
Before that could happen, The New Yorker published a widely-shared article that accused Minhaj of embellishing his confessional-style standup material with exaggerations and falsehoods. Although Minhaj later responded with his side of the story and a fact-check of the New Yorker’s fact-check, by then Comedy Central had reportedly backed away from Minhaj amid the controversy.
The Daily Show never did lock down a permanent host.

Hasan Minhaj turned a career downturn into a comic bit last night a the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles, saying that his lost opportunity to host The Daily Show actually saved the long-running institution.
“We’ve all failed in our lives,” Minhaj said, “but have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?” I saved a dying institution. You’re welcome.”
The reference came during a joking exchange between Minhaj, who was serving as emcee of a festival showcase, and current Daily Show correspondent Ronny Chieng, who had just taken the stage.
“I’m surprised that Hasan’s able to do this show,” Chieng cracked, according to Deadline’s sister publication Variety. “I guess canceling is not what it used to be.”

Hasan Minhaj is ready to laugh about it all.
At the Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival on Thursday, Minhaj hosted a showcase highlighting various comedians. At the end of the lineup was Ronny Chieng, who joked, “I’m surprised that Hasan’s able to do this show. I guess ‘cancelling’ is not what it used to be.”
He was referring to a controversy sparked by a September story in the New Yorker that aimed to fact-check Minhaj’s stand-up comedy. The month before, Variety had exclusively reported that he was the frontrunner to replace Trevor Noah as host of “The Daily Show,” but he lost the job after the scandal arose. Instead, famed host Jon Stewart returned for Monday night episodes, while other correspondents anchor for the rest of the week.
On Thursday, Minhaj pretended to heckle Chieng from the crowd, calling out, “You planted that story about me!

With Jon Stewart in Los Angeles this weekend for the Netflix Is a Joke Festival, The Daily Show is switching things up next week.
Instead of hosting the show Monday evening, as he has since returning to the show in February, Stewart will host on Thursday instead.
Jordan Klepper will be at the desk in place Stewart Monday night and will host through Wednesday.
Stewart is set to play L.A.’s Greek Theatre Friday night for a night of standup under the stars that’s being billed as “Jon Stewart and Friends.”
He’s also on the guest list for John Mulaney’s “Everybody’s in L.A.” miniseries, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up sitting down with another semi-retired Late Nighter as a series of comedy legends are expected to participate in a show Netflix is calling “Gods of Comedy With David Letterman.”

Star couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost had a glamorous night out at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The couple attended the event in Washington D.C., where Jost was selected by the White House Correspondents’ Association to be the host for the organisation’s prestigious event.
Johannson wore a custom Giorgio Armani Prive white silk strapless column gown trimmed with crystals. Jost, meanwhile, chose a Giorgio Armani navy blue one-button peak lapel tuxedo trimmed in satin. He paired it with a white evening shirt and a bow tie, reports people.com.
The event, usually attended by the president and the first lady, helps raise money for the Whca, funds journalism scholarships, and honours recipients of the Whca’s professional journalism awards.
The dinner’s featured speaker has usually been a comedian, with names like Trevor Noah, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O’Brien hosting the annual dinner and roast in the past.

The annual White House Correspondents Dinner may be dubbed the inside-the-beltway “Nerd Prom” in some circles. Still, this year’s soirée, which took place on Saturday night at the Washington Hilton, was the hottest ticket in the nation’s capital — maybe the entire nation — as President Joe Biden and the First Lady sat alongside the Hollywood elite and senior government officials mingled with actors, rappers and rockers.
They were all gathered to toast free speech and watch the president and Saturday Night Live Colin Jost roast Donald Trump, the state of the media, and in a common theme of the night, the commander-in-chief’s age.
Before the event began, hundreds of protesters had gathered outside the Hilton in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington to confront attendees and encourage journalists to boycott the event. The demonstrators shouted about the deaths of journalists in Gaza as they covered the ongoing conflict...

After winning the Emmy earlier this year for the final season of Trevor Noah’s hosting stint, The Daily Show surprised just about everyone with the announcement that its multiple Emmy-winning previous star Jon Stewart would be returning to host Monday editions during this election year, while other regulars would take turns hosting during the rest of the week.
The multi-host format was born out of necessity following Noah’s departure and a series of what were essentially auditions for a permanent replacement. Unable to land on the perfect choice, producers and Comedy Central settled on Stewart returning and spreading the wealth host-wise to carry the series through this election year.
Ratings are up. It’s working.
Discussing the evolution at Deadline’s Contenders TV: Documentary + Unscripted event were longtime executive producer/showrunner/writer Jen Flanz, co-executive producer/writer Zhubin Parang, and former writer and newly named correspondent Josh Johnson.

The annual 2024 White House Correspondents’ Dinner is set for Saturday at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C.
This year, Colin Jost, who co-hosts Saturday Night Live‘s “Weekend Update” segment with Michael Che, is the featured entertainer at the event that attracts A-listers, comedians, journalists, prominent politicians and more. President Joe Biden is also set to be in attendance, as well as First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.
“Colin Jost knows how to make Saturday nights funny, and I am thrilled Colin will be live from the nation’s capital as the headline entertainer for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” Kelly O’Donnell, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, previously said in a statement.

The Daily Show has been steeped in a competitive game of musical chairs since Trevor Noah’s departure, but at least one recurring face on the program isn’t losing sleep over who will get the gig.
Comedian Lewis Black has served as a contributor to The Daily Show since the franchise first began in 1996, working with each of the show’s hosts over the years. So only it makes sense that he’d be asked to weigh in on who might best fill the seat next.
But in a recent interview with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he said he didn’t understand what the ongoing fuss was about.
“This is not a holy seat. This isn’t the Vatican,” Black told the paper. “The show is about the satire. It’s about the writers.”
The Daily Show is in the midst of a ratings resurgence since Jon Stewart returned to host Monday episodes in February.

Exclusive: After finding its new host in the returning Jon Stewart, The Daily Show is staffing up.
The Comedy Central series has signed up three new correspondents to its news team: Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt.
They are the first new correspondents to join the show in six years, since the arrival of Jaboukie Young-White, who joined in 2018 and left in 2021. The last new correspondent still on the show was Dulcé Sloan, who joined in September 2017 (Jordan Klepper returned in December 2019 having previously been featured on the show).
Iwata and Kuhlenschmidt joined the show in October 2023 and Johnson, who was previously a writer on the show, made his on-screen debut in February. The move to official correspondents just happened, despite being on the show for a few months.

Out of all the cars on the road today, there is perhaps no vehicle more associated with Los Angeles than the Mercedes-Benz G-Class — that tall and boxy bank-vault of an SUV which hasn’t really changed shape or size since it was first released by Mercedes-Benz in 1979 as the Geländewagen. The first G’s were made for the trades, rescue services and the military, and Mercedes-Benz likes to tout the fact that more than 80 percent of the G’s ever made are still around on and off-roading.
This all-purpose, go-anywhere vehicle has, throughout the years, had a glow-up or two — and what 45-year-old in the limelight hasn’t. But, at Los Angeles’ Franklin Canyon Park above Beverly Hills on Tuesday, April 23, Mercedes-Benz showed off their latest iteration, one which has had G-Wagen fanatics waiting on tenterhooks: the G 580 with Eq Technology, the first all-electric G-Class model.

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show has given the show a big lift on the nights that he hosts — and even on the nights he doesn’t.
Stewart’s surprise return to Comedy Central’s late- night flagship — he’ll anchor the show on Monday nights through the presidential election — led to an immediate ratings spike for the show, as his first show back on Feb. 12 hit a multiyear high in viewers. The first few episodes after Stewart’s return, hosted by Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper, also came in way ahead of the show’s average viewership for 2023.
Seven weeks into the Stewart-and-correspondents hosting arrangement, that pattern has mostly held up. Ratings have cooled some in April, but both Stewart’s Monday shows and the news team-led installments later in the week have consistently stayed well above both the show’s guest host era of 2023 and the...

After a dramatic exit from The Daily Show late last year, at least one piece of Roy Wood Jr.’s next act is coming into focus.
Deadline reports the comedian and former Tds correspondent has joined the cast of Jonah Hill’s new movie “Outcome.” The Apple Studios dark comedy, directed and co-written by Hill, will star Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and Hill himself.
It was last October that Wood announced he was leaving The Daily Show, where he had served as a correspondent since 2015. The move came as Tds continued its long process of finding a new permanent host to replace Trevor Noah, who left in 2022.
Explaining his departure in a recent interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee, Wood stated that he’d lost faith that there were any paths to success left for a show that didn’t have a plan amid an industry that’s in crisis.

She’s CNN’s Chief International Anchor, hosts two shows for the cable news network, and one for PBS, but tonight Christiane Amanpour is taking her act to Comedy Central.
Amanpour is set to sit down with Jon Stewart tonight on The Daily Show. It will be her fifth time appearing on the show–she guested twice with Stewart during his initial run on the show, and appeared three times when Trevor Noah was behind the Daily Show desk.
Tonight’s show will mark Stewart’s eighth episode since returning to The Daily Show anchor desk Monday nights in February.
Stewart’s Monday nights have proven to be a huge draw for the Comedy Central series, drawing 2-3 times the number of total viewers the show was averaging last fall per live-plus-same-day Nielsen ratings (and even more in delayed viewing). Exclusive: Mainstay Entertainment is producing a documentary on professional tennis player Aleksandra Krunic. Norman Aladjem and Madeleine Buisseret are producing for Mainstay along with sports documentarian Natalie Jowett, who wrote and directed an Emmy-winning documentary on the tragedy of the 1972 Munich Olympics and was nominated for an Emmy as a producer on the NFL Network documentary America’s Game and the Iran Hostage Crisis.
Production is scheduled to begin April 8 at the Billie Jean King Cup (the female version of the Davis Cup) in Lisbon. No distribution has been set.
The documentary will focus on the reality of what it’s really like being a professional athlete away from all the glitz and glamour we’ve become so used to seeing. The conceit of the project is to highlight the antithesis of the global star both on and, more importantly, off the court.
Mainstay has cultivated a diverse slate of projects across platforms.

Beyoncé just dropped her highly anticipated country album, but Dolly Parton fans are not happy with her “Jolene” cover. Keep reading to find out what country music fans are saying.
Dolly Parton Fans Not Happy With Beyoncé “Jolene” Cover
Beyoncé announced in February that her next album would be a country one. Many country music fans were skeptical of the genre jump. Cowboy Carter came out earlier this week to much fanfare.
As expected, she covered Dolly Parton’s 1973 hit song “Jolene.” But Beyoncé didn’t stay true to the original. She reimagined it with new lyrics.
Dolly’s version begins with the pleading lyrics, “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/I’m begging of you please don’t take my man/Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene/Please don’t take him just because you can.”
However, the opening of Beyoncé’s version sets the warning tone for the rest of the song: “Jolene,...

Dolly Parton is weighing in on Beyoncé’s new version of “Jolene,” and like just about everyone else who’s heard the drastically revised lyrics, the creator seems blown away.
“Wow, I just heard Jolene,” Parton posted on Instagram this afternoon. “Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it!” She signs the message, “Love, Dolly P.”

A post shared by Dolly Parton (@dollyparton)
The Daily Show today reposted part of a 2022 interview with Dolly where then-host Trevor Noah asks the icon about her wish to see Beyoncé cover the tune. She explained, “I would love to hear ‘Jolene’ done in just a big way, kind of like how Whitney did my ‘I Will Always Love You.’ Someone that can take my little songs and make them, like, powerhouses.”
Parton then added, “That would be a marvelous day in my life, if she ever does ‘Jolene.

Today is officially a “marvelous day” in Dolly Parton’s life since she practically willed Beyoncé’s cover of “Jolene,” on the just-released Cowboy Carter album, into existence a couple of years ago.
Back when Trevor Noah was hosting The Daily Show, he asked Parton about a rumor he’d heard that she would like Beyoncé to put her spin on it. As included in a recent Threads post, Noah wanted to know why, with 400 extant versions of the tune already in the universe, she was so set on Bey?...

It was five months ago that Roy Wood Jr. announced he was leaving The Daily Show after serving as a correspondent at the show for eight years.
Arguably the show’s highest profile correspondent (he had just won rave reviews after hosting the White Correspondents Dinner earlier in 2023), Wood’s departure was yet another blow to The Daily Show following a year of instability that began with former host Trevor Noah’s own abrupt departure in late 2022. A parade of guest hosts followed, then came the Writers Strike, and then–we later learned–after producers told staffers that Comedy Central was finally moving ahead with a new host (Hasan Minhaj), that decision was reversed.
Now Wood is speaking out. In a candid new interview with fellow Daily Show alum Samantha Bee on her podcast Choice Words, Wood described his decision to leave in binary terms:

When I ask Dulcé Sloan The Question, she reacts like I’ve just asked if a unicorn can ride around on a dolphin.
From my perspective, it seemed an obvious ask: If the powers now running The Daily Show decide — after more than a year of looking for a permanent host to succeed Trevor Noah — to offer the job to her, would she accept it?
But Sloan insists the concept is so unlikely, she can’t even imagine it — despite having guest hosted the show once (her week was cut short by the writer’s strike last year). She also performed alongside a lineup of guest hosts that included Sarah Silverman, D.L.

On March 10, he attended the Oscars for the second time with his wife Mirka, and afterward hit the Vanity Fair Oscar Party. Two nights later, Federer and eyewear company Oliver Peoples threw a celebrity-studded dinner at Sunset Tower — attended by the likes of Trevor Noah, Sharon Stone, Edgar Ramirez, Maria Sharapova, Jay Ellis and Lindsey Vonn — to celebrate his new sunglasses line with the brand.
And while there’s no date yet set for his documentary, Federer recently saw a screening of the feature-length film, which is helmed by Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia (Amy) and co-director Joe Sabia.

CAA is adding to its ranks.
The agency has hired Saraphina Monaco as an agent in its television talent department. She’ll be based at CAA’s Century City office and will focus on identifying and creating acting opportunities for the agency’s comedy touring clients — which includes several A-list comedians — in film and television.
Monaco joins CAA from A3 Artists Agency, where she spent five years as a talent agent in its theatrical division. The agency ceased operations in February. Prior to that, Monaco worked at Buchwald, in both its New York and Los Angeles offices, and Prestige Talent Agency. She began her career as an assistant at Aquila/Wood Casting and also has experience at a few boutique agencies.

Oscars weekend is the most star-studded of the year. Whether nominated or unattached to the Academy-recognized films, celebrities gather en masse to celebrate the awards show.
This year, like many before, Vanity Fair threw the largest and most extravagant after-party. The many groups of A-list actors, Grammy Award-winning singers, and cultural icons would make your eyes pop. Here are some of the most exciting:

Hosted by Vanity Fair Editor-in-Chief Radhika Jones, the 2024 Oscars After-Party took place at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts. Keke Palmer is not sleeping on 2024. Starting the year with an Emmy win for outstanding host of a game show for her work on NBC’s Password, the actress is filming both Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune and Eddie Murphy vehicle The Pickup, running year-old media upstart KeyTV, growing her podcast and hosting a second season of Password — which premieres Tuesday. So, it was obviously a little confusing when a recent comment to Teen Vogue had many interpreting that the 30-year-old’s retirement was “around the corner.” The response, says Palmer, was unexpected — and quite overblown. Speaking over the phone in February, Palmer elaborated on long-term hopes for her career, gave her late review on Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show and revealed how a conversation with one Password guest might have accidentally led to a seaside vacation.

Kal Penn admits he didn’t know much about Anna Nicole Smith’s physician, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, before he was approached to star as the doctor in the indie adaptation of his memoir, “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.”

The last thing TV needs right now is another reboot. So when it was announced in January that Jon Stewart would be returning home to “The Daily Show,” hosting the show on Mondays through the 2024 election and becoming an executive producer full-time on the program, I found myself curious what the response would be from longtime fans.
During his first run as host of the Comedy Central news program (1999-2015) Stewart paved a new kind of infotainment that inarguably shaped how a segment of the population consumed news. In his wake, he was far from the only one. When Stewart got the Mark Twain Prize in 2022, former “Daily Show” correspondent Bee cracked, “Satire solves the world’s problems. Don’t believe me? Just look at all the satirical shows we now have and how amazing the world is doing!”

The Beacon engagement of the former Saturday Night Live cast mates ran between February 7 and 18. The record attendance was announced by Beacon owner Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp.
The previous Beacon record of 10 consecutive shows was set in October by Trevor Noah.
The Restless Leg tour marked the first time either Fey or Poehler performed at the Upper West Side venue. During the engagement, the two welcomed surprise guests from their SNL days, including Fred Armisen, Rachel Dratch, and Maya Rudolph. The shows were promoted by Live Nation.

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show is paying off for Comedy Central.
The late-night show recorded 1.3M total viewers for Stewart’s second episode on Monday night. This was up from 930,000 in his first week back, per Nielsen’s live+same day ratings.
It marks the most watched Daily Show telecast since Stewart left in 2015, beating all overnight ratings for Trevor Noah’s run as host.
It comes after Stewart’s first episode back hit 3M viewers with the live+three day numbers, including simulcasts on other Paramount networks.
Stewart was followed this week by Desi Lydic, who took on the chair last night, diving into Nikki Haley’s struggle to remind people she is running for President and Trump comparing himself to Alexei Navalny. Josh Johnson also returned to talk with sneakerheads about Trump’s new gold sneakers.
Lydic also interviewed The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live...

Jon Stewart’s old desk is happy to have him.
On Monday night, 1.3 million viewers tuned into Comedy Central to see Stewart host “The Daily Show” for the second time since the surprise announcement of his return. That marks the highest viewership the show has seen on its home network since Stewart’s final episode in 2015, after which Trevor Noah took over as host until his own exit in 2022.
It should be noted that this comparison refers to viewership on Comedy Central alone. Though some post-2015 episodes of “The Daily Show” have totaled above 1.3 million viewers, none reached that height without the advantage of simulcasting on other Paramount-owned networks, which Monday’s telecast did not do.
For example, Stewart’s initial return on Feb. 12 hit a strong 1.9 million viewers across Comedy Central, CMT, Logo, MTV, MTV2, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land, but only 930,000 of those viewers came from Comedy Central,...

In a recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the comedian made a surprising offer to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. John Oliver proposed a deal worth $1 million per year if Thomas would choose to resign from his position on the Supreme Court immediately. And he was not joking while offering this.

The talk show host also criticized Thomas’ controversial vote in 2022, where he played a key role in overturning Roe v. Wade, a significant decision that had previously protected the right to abortion. Oliver expressed his dissatisfaction with Thomas’ stance on this matter and used his platform to voice criticism.

Jennifer Lopez has spent the better part of her career navigating the two halves of her public persona: Bronx-born girl next door “Jenny from the block” and Hollywood power player “J.Lo.” Though much of the tension between the two has been amplified by media coverage that spans calculated marketing campaigns and inescapable paparazzi scrutiny, Lopez has frequently seemed to capitulate to whichever of the two serves her best at the time.
“This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is, on its face, the visual component of her self-funded ninth studio album, and at a reported $20 million price tag it’s easy to see it first and foremost as an advertisement. But as not only the subject but star, co-writer and executive producer of an interlinked series of music videos, Lopez showcases above all else how tough it is to express oneself personally after more than 30 years in the public eye,...

If there’s a takeaway from the trailer for Jennifer Lopez’s upcoming documentary film The Greatest Love Story Never Told, it’s that, like many celebrities who venture into producing a doc on their own life, the legendary entertainer wants to set the record straight and tell her own truth.
“It takes courage to share your truth and I know it could end disastrously,” Lopez opines in the trailer. “Nobody figures out anything when everything’s all hunky dory and rosy. You figure shit out when shit is hard.
