Exclusive: Obb Pictures has launched a new division, Obb Music, focused on developing and producing content around the world’s biggest artists, stories and events in music. The company’s expansion into music comes after their original series with Kevin Hart, Cold as Balls, launches into its second season after a successful 100M YouTube viewing round. The company is working on three new projects including an, as yet, untitled feature doc directed by Mandon Lovett that chronicles the ascent of multi-platinum hip-hop artist Jeezy. Production began on that project today.
The Jeezy film marks the company’s return to the documentary space as it previously produced the ESPN 30 for 30 film, Gonzo at the Derby, narrated by Sean Penn that relives the birth of Gonzo Journalism during Hunter S. Exclusive: Jay Longino, who penned the upcoming Lionsgate comedy Uncle Drew toplined by NBA star Kyrie Irving, Tiffany Haddish and Lil Rel Howery, has been set to adapt The Smart Money, a TV series in development based on Michael Konik’s 2006 memoir about about life inside one of Las Vegas and the world’s most sought after gambling rings. Obb Pictures optioned rights to the book last fall and is producing with 3 Arts Entertainment.
In the book Konik, a journalist, unfolds his story of landing an interview with one of Las Vegas’ most prolific sports betters, unknowingly becoming a patsy working in his gambling ring, eventually wagering hundreds of thousands of dollars on a given day and as much as $1 million on one event. Obb and 3 Arts plan to shop the half-hour dramedy series to cable and streaming services.

Miranda Sherman has joined Michael D. Ratner’s Obb Pictures as Production Executive, TheWrap has learned. She will now lead Obb’s independent film ventures and will serve as a key executive in the incubation and production of the company’s annual Pilot Season, an initiative designed to find undiscovered projects from emerging creators and present them to a larger audience.
