Things are looking up for Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva and her Scottish police (and romantic) partner Kirsten Longacre in Vigil Season 2, premiering February 15 on Peacock. Instead of trying to solve a murder among the sailors within the confines of a nuclear submarine, as they did in the first season of the hit U.K. thriller, the two women, played by Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones and Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie, are now investigating a case within the Royal Air Force—on land. In the six-episode season, a prototype combat drone has been compromised, killing several soldiers during a demonstration. The investigation takes Silva to the Persian Gulf, where a wider conspiracy is discovered. The series filmed in Scotland and Morocco, and according to executive producer Jake Lushington, while people may initially miss the submarine, “hopefully it won’t take long before our action-packed opening throws them headlong into this different mystery and territory.

Warning: contains spoilers for Vigil series one.
Dci Amy Silva is back! Even if most people would have quit Police Scotland and retrained as a florist the moment we hit dry land after what happened on board nuclear submarine Hms Vigil, Silva is not most people.
In Vigil series two, Silva is taking on a different branch of the British Armed Forces – the Royal Air Force. When a brutal incident occurs at a Scottish air base, Silva is drafted in to kick ass and take names. And seeing as it’s now over two years since the first series aired on BBC One, here’s a brief reminder of where Silva, her step-daughter Poppy, her partner Kirsten Longacre and their last case were left.

This spoiler-free review is based on the three episodes made available to preview.
Between Christmas specials and twinkly festive ads, TV can get cloying at this time of year. What’s needed to cut through the Baileys truffle eggnog of it all is a show from the ice-cold ‘Send a Team to the Perimeter’ genre. Action! Intrigue! Explosions! Cliff-hangers! A formula that keeps us alert while while the rest of the season gently cosies us to sleep.
Vigil is exactly that show. Airing on consecutive nights and available to stream in three-episode chunks released a week apart, it’s a shot in the arm for the Christmas TV schedule and makes a solid binge-watch.
It’s a couple of years after Dci Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) closed the case on Hms Vigil – the nuclear submarine beset by a Russian-sponsored saboteur – and she’s in a better place now. Well, it’s still Glasgow,...

It’s dark, cramped and dangerous on British nuclear submarine Vigil. Not the ideal place to look into a suspicious death, but that’s what police detective Amy Silva must do when a crew member dies suddenly. As the situation on board grows increasingly chaotic, nearly everyone seems fishy. Meanwhile, on land, Amy’s colleague and ex-girlfriend, Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie), runs afoul of the Navy when she looks into another death. Do you really have to ask if the cases are connected? This twisty, riveting nail-biter, which aired overseas last summer, was the U.K.’s most watched new drama in three years, and it’s easy to see why. From the moment a helicopter drops Amy into the labyrinthine world of the sub, where men vastly outnumber women and communication with those above is limited, she’s on a grueling journey. So was Jones, who got bruised doing her own stunts.

Filmed in Scotland, "Vigil", is the Brit-produced crime drama TV series, directed by James Strong and Isabelle Sieb, following events aboard the 'Trident' nuclear submarine 'Hms Vigil', streaming December 23, 2021 on Peacock:
".... when a crew member is found dead on board the 'Trident' nuclear submarine 'Hms Vigil', police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK's nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and 'Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva' must go aboard to begin an investigation.

Dci Silva needs to send a fruit basket to whoever thought to include a ‘Cancel Tube Flood Cycle’ button on Britain’s vanguard-class submarines. That one will have gone straight to the top of her personal Best Button list. Silva had a narrow escape from the triple nightmare of drowning in an enclosed space while screaming so loudly that everybody can see your fillings without actually making a sound. Add in an exam she hadn’t revised for and some public nudity and she’d have covered all bases.
It was back to base by rescue helicopter for Silva, Glover and the treacherous Doward – who turned out to be an arbitrary villain. What political conviction or personal grudge had made him sign up to become a Soviet state-sponsored serial killer? None that we learned of. “He’s a narcissist,” concluded Silva. “It made him feel special,...

Warning: This Vigil review contains spoilers.
A booming naval salute to Vigil, which marks the return of the Sunday night BBC One drama after a long absence for reasons of football, Olympics, and allegedly, summer sunshine. From the writer of BBC detective series Strike, this thriller is just the thing to take us into autumn. It has it all: peril, intrigue, murder, Suranne Jones being winched from a helicopter onto a submarine like a prize toy in an arcade claw machine, and a conspiracy that (likely) goes all the way to the heart of the top of the uppermost ridge of the establishment. Strap in.
“How are you with confined spaces?” Dci Amy Silva (Jones) is asked by a smirking lieutenant when she’s picked to investigate a death on board a naval submarine. Not great, judging by a flashback to Silva’s family trapped underwater in a car accident.
