All season long, the outcome of The Voice‘s ninth season has seemed as obvious as the ick factor in a love duet between 39-year-old Blake Shelton and his 17-year-old protégé.

You could practically imagine Jan Brady-esque huffing from backstage — “Jordan! Jordan! Jordan!” — every time Jordan Smith got a standing ovation from the judges or a fawning intro package from Mark Burnett & Co. or a No. 1 slot on the iTunes Top 200 from Voice voters both crazed and casual.
But while Jordan slayed his closing Christmas hymn tonight and didn’t make any glaring mistakes — unless,...

Like those old episodes of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom where the straggler impala gets picked off by the hungry lioness, The Voice‘s Battle Rounds are compelling (though not necessarily comforting) viewing.
Only the strongest voices — or at least those attached to the youngest, doe-eyed-iest, most social-media-approved bodies — survive the two-person, one-song contests.
And while I understand those who wince at the inherent cruelty of whittling a pool of 48 singers down to 32 (eight Battle “losers” get second chances via The Steal), it’s nevertheless a necessary evil. I mean, let’s be honest: After three consecutive weeks of Blind Auditions,...

Who says there’s no life after The Voice?
Season 5′s Top 5 results telecast felt like an aggressive response to the blogosphere complaint that NBC’s reality-singing behemoth has yet to produce a viable chart-topper — this week’s Top 10 iTunes milestones for covers by three current semifinalists notwithstanding. (Cue Xtina rageface, followed by an indignant, “Excuse me, but I’m No. 10 on Billboard right this very second, bitches!” No, girl, we’re talking about contestants, not coaches.)

Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that The Voice kicked off Season 4 with the addition of Shakira and Usher, the absence of Xtina and Cee Lo and a new crop of contenders angling for Cassadee Pope’s place on the Iron Throne Swivel-Chair Throne?
And yet, here we are on finale night, waiting to hear whether the crown will rest on the head of Michelle Chamuel, Danielle Bradbery or The Swon Brothers.

This is the end. Hold your breath and count to 10.
The Voice has reached the conclusion of season 4 and, just like last season, Blake Shelton has two contestants left. Tonight Danielle Bradbery and The Swon Brothers, plus Team Usher's Michelle Chamuel, compete for the title. Will Blake go for the three-peat and be vindicated for his all-country strategy that saw deserving singers like Luke Edgemon, Christian Porter and Grace Askew go home before they should've? Will Usher shock the world by coming in and winning the show his first time out? Will Adam Levine start a write-in campaign for Judith Hill?...

Things got viciously, competitively real on The Voice‘s Season 4 Top 5 performance episode. How real, you ask?
How about Adam Levine declaring that “from a technical standpoint it doesn’t get more proficient” than human ray of sunshine Danielle “I’ll make more money by 20 than you will in a lifetime” Bradbery’s TimMcGraw cover? Or Shakira declaring “you did good” after Amber Carrington’s disappointing “Firework”?
