Exclusive: Comedian Tom Segura has identified the most promising vehicle yet to showcase his acting chops, as Deadline understands that he’s in talks for multiple roles in Dirty Rotten Bastard, a show biz-centric indie from Ed Helms & Mike Falbo’s Pacific Electric Picture Company.
Helmed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, aka The Director Brothers, the film tells the insane true story of an aspiring filmmaker who is kidnapped by deranged lounge singer Tony Clifton. Initially drawn to document Clifton’s world, he is thrust into a chaotic journey of sex, celebrity, and comedy, blurring the lines between observer and participant, and testing his sanity.
Segura will play legendary avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman’s larger-than-life comedic persona Clifton, as well as the performer’s friend and longtime collaborator Bob Zmuda.
Zmuda was known to switch off with Kaufman in portraying Clifton, a foul-mouthed lounge singer out of Las Vegas,...

Change is coming to “Rutherford Falls,” and Ed Helms is Not happy about that.
In the new Peacock comedy from Helms, Mike Schur and Sierra Teller Ornelas, Nathan Rutherford (Helms) is the proud descendant of his small town’s founder. But the centrally located — and we do mean centrally — statue of “Big Larry” Rutherford has become problematic.
Not for the reasons we’re used to hearing about in the real world these days — or at least, not initially — but in a much more practical way.
You see, the statue of Lawrence Rutherford was placed in the middle of the road (or more likely the road was built around Big Larry) downtown, and cars seem to be very attracted to it lately. We can’t have that.

On Wednesday morning, Mike Catherwood spent an hour on a call with Quibi executives for his new animated project, “Rudy.” Then, he went to pick up his daughter from school. By the time he got home, Quibi was dead.
“I have to assume that those executives didn’t know,” Catherwood told Variety. “Otherwise they’re really good actors. Because we had an hourlong conversation about moving forward in scripts, like what’s working on script number three and what’s not. To then read the news, I was completely blown away.”

Sundance has added five films to next month’s lineup, including Babak Anvari’s “Wounds.” The writer-director, whose “Under the Shadow” made waves at the festival two years ago, returns to Park City alongside Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, and Zazie Beets with a film in which “disturbing and mysterious things begin to happen to a bartender in New Orleans after he picks up a phone left behind at his bar.
Also returning to Sundance are “The Blair Witch Project” and “The Hours and Times,” which are screening as part of From the Collection. “Wounds” isn’t the only premiere, as “Corporate Animals” — which stars Demi Moore, Ed Helms, and Jessica Williams — and “Paddleton” (led by Mark Duplass and Ray Romano) are likewise bowing at the fest.
Premieres
“Paddleton” / U.S.A. — An unlikely friendship between two misfit neighbors becomes an unexpectedly emotional journey when the younger man is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Lobo Sebastian (USA’s Queen of the South) has landed a role in Clint Eastwood’s Warner Bros film, The Mule, which Eastwood will direct and star in along with Bradley Cooper.
