In the history of the GDMAs thus far, Swift is the only artist who has won Artist of the Year. She’s also the only artist who has won Record of the Year and Song of the Year. But her Album of the Year victory for “Midnights” is only her second in that race. She previously won in 2021 for “Folklore,” but Lana Del Rey claimed that honor in 2022 for “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” and Beyonce prevailed in 2023 for “Renaissance.”

A few hours before he dropped his long-awaited studio album Utopia, Travis Scott shared its official 19-song tracklist. The image included each title written out in near-illegible scribbles with a harsh, grainy filter overlay making it all the more difficult to decipher. Taylor Swift is in the throes of her massive Eras Tour, which hits Arlington, Texas this weekend. But she still found time to drop an acoustic version of Midnights opener “Lavender Haze” on Friday.
She transforms the dreamy synth-pop track into a folksy, finger-plucked tune. The song —which was co-written by Zoe Kravitz and producers Sounwave, Jahaan Sweet, and Sam Dew — suddenly becomes an intimate, enchanting Lilith Fair-core tune as opposed to the arena-pop moment the single sounds like in its original state.

Taylor Swift just wants to stay in the “Lavender Haze,” and now she has a choice between the original Midnights edition and the newly released remix with German DJ Felix Jaehn, whose remix of Omi’s “Cheerleader” track topped charts worldwide when released in 2015.
The new version of “Lavender Haze” opens with shimmering synths and catapulting beats, courtesy of the DJ, and fills the track with giddy electronic drops. Swift originally penned the song with Zoë Kravitz and producers Sounwave, Jahaan Sweet, and Sam Dew. Braxton Cook provided additional production.

Taylor Swift unveiled the next visual for her song “Bejeweled“ from her new Midnights album.
In what Swift describes as “music movie,” released to coincide with her new tenth studio album, the singer puts a twist on the Cinderella fairytale, in which Laura Dern, Haim, Swift’s longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, Dita Von Teese and Pat McGrath star alongside her in the visual.
The music movie, which Swift wrote and directed, opens with Swift’s “House Wench Taylor,” cleaning the floor — with an instrumental of her song “Enchanted” playing in the background — as she listens to her stepsisters (Haim) and “stepmommy” (Dern) discuss how anyone who wins the talent competition will get keys to their own castle and a marriage proposal from the prince.

At the center of Freddie Gibbs’ oul old eparately is “Rabbit Vision,” which finds him regretting moments in his life. “Me and Jeezy haven’t spoken in years, but I got love for him/Coulda talked it out, but I spoke out, I let it get to me,” he raps, offering an olive branch to the man who signed him in 2011 before the two had a very public falling-out. Exclusive: Deadline can reveal before Sunday’s world premiere of the David O. Russell-directed Amsterdam that the film’s final musical number “Time” was done with help from Drake and platinum recording artist Giveon.
Daniel Pemberton wrote the original score for the film, and he was also inspired to create a song based on his score’s melodic theme. Working with producer Matthew Budman, who believed the film’s empowering message about the bonds of friendship was perfectly suited for a song, they reached out to Budman’s business partner and the film’s executive producer, Drake. He turned to friend and collaborator Giveon to perform the song, which Drake and Jahaan Sweet wrote together and which Pemberton produced.
David O. Russell’s ‘Amsterdam’ Going Earlier In October
The result, “Time,” combines the original score’s main theme with Giveon’s rich, classic vocals, woodwind instrumentation, and a piano track by Sweet.

After seven Grammy nominations without a full-length album, Giveon has finally released his debut, Give or Take. Over 16 tracks, the singer delivers some of his most personal ballads to date, with help from top-flight producers like Bo-1da, Jahaan Sweet, Sevyn Thomas and Leon Thomas. It was just the album he wanted to make — a place to say everything he wanted to say.
“Every time I am making a song or writing a story, at the moment, I don’t have the intention of where that will be placed,” he says.

The 2022 Grammy Awards broadcast wrapped up with an upset victory of sorts, with Jon Batiste beating out the likes of Taylor Swift and Kanye west to take home Album of the Year for his excellent “We Are.”
That was his fifth win of the night, following four wins during the “Premiere Ceremony,” where all of the awards not deemed cool enough for television were handed out, hosted by the always wonderful Levar Burton.
Batiste also accomplished a rather ignominious milestone for the Grammy Awards themselves: He’s the first Black artist to win Album of the Year since Herbie Hancock back in 2008. You read that right: It’s literally been 14 years and 3 presidents since the Academy recognized the work of Black artists with this honor. And in case you’re wondering, the only nonwhite artist to win Best Album during that time was Bruno Mars in 2018.

Three years ago, Giveon landed a 15-minute tour slot opening for Baby Rose and Snoh Aalegra. There was only one problem: At the time, he had released just two original songs. Needing new tunes in a hurry to fill out his set, the R&b singer decided to write something quickly based on each city the tour landed in. One of these, the spare, chilling “Chicago Freestyle,” proved particularly popular when he posted a snippet to Instagram — until Giveon got a message from his manager, Simon Gebrelul, telling him to delete the clip.

Ella Mai is back with new music, whether you're ready to dive into your feelings or not. The 25-year-old songstress dropped her single "Not Another Love Song," on Oct. 2, which marks her first solo release since her self-titled debut album in 2018. The euphonious track, which she recently performed at Rihanna's Savage x Fenty Volume Two show, wrestles with the idea of being in love without wanting to admit it. "I don't want to mess this up / Could it be too much to say I'm in," the singer croons, hesitating to say the coveted four-letter word. "I just wanna know what's up / Do you feel it 'cause I think I'm in love." It's all a part of the waiting game that relationships so often force us to play.
Even while singing about the universality of romantic dubiety, Mai makes it feel deeply personal. Perhaps it's because she's been on an...

Publishing has historically been full of horror stories about artists or songwriters signing away their copyrights for eternity. But Kobalt, an independent outlet, promotes a different model: more flexible deals in which writers retain ownership of the songs they have written, keep more income from their songs than they might elsewhere, and enjoy a high level of transparency, so that writers always know how much money they are bringing in.

Rapper Juice Wrld’s 2018 breakout single “Lucid Dreams” was a hip-hop hit that felt spiritually indebted to a very un-hip-hop influence: Dashboard Confessional’s 2002 “Screaming Infidelities,” which packaged the lamentations of a man deep in the throes of heartbreak in clean acoustic guitar and singer Chris Carrabba’s injured whine. With “Lucid Dreams,” Juice Wrld more or less grafted Dashboard’s emotional blueprint onto clacking percussion and booming 808s. Whereas “Insecurities” is an intimate coffeehouse joint meant to be received by an audience of dozens, “Lucid Dreams” is a song...

With “Everything Is Love,” the three-season musical miniseries about Beyonce and Jay-z — a.k.a. the Carters — reaches a happy ending. It’s both a completion — of the marriage trilogy that began with Beyonce’s 2016 album “Lemonade” and her widely discussed accounts of Jay’s infidelity — and a continuation, with his tales of contrition on last summer’s “4:44.”

It had been rumored for years and it has finally arrived: a joint Beyonce-Jay-z album. Called “Everything Is Love,” the announcement was made by Tidal, the streaming company owned by Jay-z. It features nine tracks, each credited to Beyonce and Jay-z — or The Carters — and clocks in at just under 40 minutes, unusually brief for both artists; there is also a bonus track available on Tidal called “Salud” that the duo presumably felt didn’t fit with the album’s sequence. According to unofficial credits, the album features production from Pharrell Williams, Cool & Dre, Boi-1Da, Vory, Jahaan Sweet and Sevn Thomas, and guest spots from Migos (“Apes—“) and Pharrell.
