Stars: Bruce Jones, Roseanna Leathley, Paige Feast, Matt Milne | Written and Directed by Scott Feast
Written and directed by newcomer Scott Feast, Process is – unlike the other shorts shown at the Grimmfest Northern Showcase – not your usual horror story. In fact, beyond dealing with the horror of living with dementia, this is an art-house style sci-fi fantasy sees an ageing off-world traveler, suffering from dementia, brought home to earth by his young companion as she attempts to inspire in him a moment of recollection.
Inherently different from all the films showing at Grimmfest, Process is a touching look at the effects alzheimers can have on a family – in this case a father and daughter who seemingly are travelling through space together on an interstellar “science expedition”, exploring barren planets and laying new plants in the hope of finding life. It’s a real dystopian look at the future of the...

For many actors, Downton Abbey was their first big break in television.
But not everyone can be a Lord Grantham or a Carson. For many - whether they chose to leave or were written out - their fortunes changed after exiting the ITV drama.
So after the news that Dan Stevens has joined Beauty and the Beast, Digital Spy looks at the careers (so far!) of 9 actors who have bowed out of Highclere Castle...
1. Ed Speleers
After starring in series three, four and five of Downton, Ed Speleers left Jimmy Kent behind for another role in a big budget British TV drama.
We most recently saw him in the part of Edward Seymour in Wolf Hall, and he will also star in upcoming films Remainder and Howl. Most prominently, he's been cast alongside Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter in Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Lady Isobel and Lady Violet went head to head while Edith found out she's pregnant and Rose had a dalliance with the black jazz singer in Downton Abbey.
Evelyn Napier (Brendan Patricks) has returned to Downton with a new man, Charles Blake (Julian Ovenden), in tow. Charles reveals to Mary (Michelle Dockery) that the duo are not there to study and preserve old estates, but to study how the fall of English aristocracy will impact food supply. Mary is furious and thus Charles and Mary find themselves at odds.
Edith (Laura Carmichael) receives a note from her doctor informing her that she is pregnant. The father, Michael Gregson, is nowhere to be found, and Edith could find herself an unwed mother. In other family drama, Lady Violet (Maggie Smith) and Mrs. Crawley (Penelope Wilton) had a verbal spat after the Dowager Countess accused the boy gardener, John, of stealing things from her study.

Plus, Mary gets a special visit from another handsome suitor! Has Matthew’s replacement arrived at last?
Anna (Joanne Froggatt) has worked tirelessly to keep her rape a secret from Bates (Brendan Coyle), but on the Jan. 26 episode of Downton Abbey, her tragic ordeal was brought to light — and it went just about as badly as she thought it would.
After weeks of uncomfortable distance from his wife, Bates basically forced Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) to reveal what really happened to Anna, though she did manage to avoid leaking the who of it all. With most of the truth finally out in the open, Anna agreed to move back into the cottage, and all seemed resolved — until Bates told Mrs. Hughes that “nothing is over, nothing is done with.”
I’m really hoping Bates doesn’t kill Green, but if he does, I’m just hoping he somehow gets away with it.

Downton Abbey returned this week with Anna (Joanne Froggatt) still reeling from the sexual assault she faced at the hands of Green (Nigel Harman), Lord Gillingham’s valet. Oblivious to the actions of his employee, Lord Gillingham (Tom Cullen) continues to fall madly in love with the widowed Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery).
Anna Deals With Sexual Assault
Anna struggles with accepting that she bears no responsibility for what Green did to her. As a result, she’s walking around ravaged by guilt and with a sense that she’s brought the dirtiness upon herself. Bates (Brendan Coyle) knows that something is up with his wife, but seems no closer to the truth. The rest of Downton also notices that something is troubling the normally good-humored Anna, although, like Bates, no one knows the truth besides Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan).

SAG Awards 2014 winners: Lupita Nyong’o surprises, shoo-in Cate Blanchett doesn’t (photo: Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong’o in ’12 Years a Slave’) The 2014 SAG Awards ceremony was held at downtown Los Angeles’ Shrine Exposition Center earlier this evening, January 18. Presenters included Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Josh Holloway, Clark Gregg, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Mindy Kaling, and Pauley Perrette, in addition to about a couple of dozen nominees. Most of the winners — including those in the television categories — were the expected ones, e.g., Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Best Actor Oscar winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street, 1987) for his portrayal of Liberace in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra, Jared Leto for Jean-Marc Vallée’s Dallas Buyers Club, two-time Oscar winner Maggie Smith (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, 1969; California Suite, 1978) for Downton Abbey, and Best Actress Oscar winner Helen Mirren (The Queen, 2006) for Phil Spector. Downton Abbey returned from last season’s tear fest with Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) still recovering from Matthew’s (Dan Stevens) fatal celebratory drive after the birth of their firstborn son.
'Downton Abbey' Recap
Upstairs, Isobel (Penelope Wilton), like Mary, grieves for Matthew. Robert (Hugh Bonneville), however, seems almost glad that Mary’s husband and potential future head of the English estate is out of the picture. His wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), meanwhile, is preoccupied with finding a new maid in light of O’Brien’s (Siobhan Finneran) departure to India with Lady Flintshire.
In the servants’ area downstairs there’s still trouble brewing in the four-pointed love story involving Alfred (Matt Milne), Ivy (Cara Theobold), Jimmy (Ed Speleers) and Daisy (Sophie McShera). Thomas (Rob James-Collier) has made it his mission to drum up as much drama between the foursome as possible, causing concern for Mrs. Patmore (Lesley Nicol). Meanwhile,...

About nine years ago, at the age of 52, British actress Lesley Nicol of "Downton Abbey" met a spiritual practitioner a few years older than her, named Da'aboth. About seven years ago they married -- a first marriage for them both.
"What I'm saying is, don't listen to anyone," Nicol tells Zap2it over tea and British pub food at the Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica, Calif. "And because, I'm proving here and now that the rules that say, 'Oh, you're over 45, there are no parts for you.' Well, actually, I've just got the best part I've ever had, and yes, I did just fall in love.
"We got married, and it's been amazing."
Nicol plays Mrs. Beryl Patmore, the cook at the Edwardian manor house that is the setting for the period drama, which returns for its fourth season Sunday (Jan. 5) as part of PBS' "Masterpiece."

The award season is now in full swing. This morning, SAG-aftra announced the nominees for the 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. Nominations and wins at these awards often add to one’s Oscar hopes, so it’s always interesting to see which projects are getting the most attention.
One neat personal note here is that, since I’ve been a card-carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild for 7 years, I get to cast my votes on all of these. Looking forward to that.
And the nominees are…

Well, that was all a bit of a damp squib. The 'Next Time' teaser at the end of last week's Downton suggested that this week's episode was going to be a ripsnorter. A possible death, a last-minute trip to America, the return of the dastardly Green. Everything was finally coming together.
On paper, it sounded exciting. In reality, Downton's fourth series continues to dawdle and meander at the pace of one Lady Mary's dehydrated pigs.
First things first, Dame Maggie Smith isn't going anywhere. The Dowager had a nasty bout of flu, Violet went a bit cuckoo with fever and the hair and make-up team got to have a giggle, dressing her up like Worzel Gummidge on a bad day. But after a few rounds of gin rummy and some mopping of the brow with a damp flannel from Isobel (Penelope Wilton), she's back on her feet again.

We know it will feature some exciting news for Alfred that will shake up downstairs. We also know that Isobel works her charm on Violet and tries appealing to her charitable side, and that Branson will reveal some shocking news - that he is considering a fresh start for himself and baby Sybbie.
But what is in store for Anna and Bates as their relationship is put to the test by the dark events two episodes ago? And is Lady Edith's relationship with Gregson going to have a happy ending, or is it doomed for failure?
1. Alfred (Matt Milne) is heading to the Ritz for some training. Look at all his new friends.
2. Can Anna (Joanne Froggatt) finally reveal the truth to Bates (Brendan Coyle)? Or is their relationship dooomed?...

Downton Abbey's single parents, Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) and Tom Branson (Allen Leech), have barely been seen with their children in the opening episodes of the series, so it's a relief that in episode 5 we finally see the pair spending time with the ever-so-cute baby Sybbie and baby George.
Watch the episode 5 Downton preview below:
However, all isn't well for the doting parents as Tom expresses concerns about his current life and reveals that he may have plans to start afresh elsewhere, away from Downton.
Meanwhile, viewers can also look forward to some more delightful Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton scenes as Isobel attempts to appeal to Violet's charitable side. Downstairs, a new opportunity for Alfred (Matt Milne) will add further tension to Ivy (Cara Theobold) and Daisy's (Sophie McShera) relationship.

The rebellious couple returned to ‘Downton Abbey’ on Jan. 20 with the fuzz hot on their trail!
Tom (Allen Leech) may be a beautifully wrapped package, but sometimes I wonder if the box isn’t completely empty. He arrived at Downton this week, all wet — I know what I said, let’s move on — and all alone. The police believed him to be an instigator of a rebellion, so he fled Ireland and left Sybil (Jessica Brown Findlay) behind. Yes, pregnant Sybil. God, how could someone who looks so good in a nightshirt be so stupid?!
Sybil eventually made it to the abbey — her and Tom’s 360-degree kiss in the main hall was a nice touch — but her troubles are far from over. It looks like she and Tom will have to stay there at least until the baby is born, which by my calculations should be sometime next week!

New Downton Abbey star Matt Milne has promised that his character will not have a smooth ride across the rest of the series, teasing that "torment" lies ahead for Alfred the footman. Milne's character has become a central love interest in the show, attracting attention and a kiss from lady's maid Miss Reid (Lucille Sharp). Sophie McShera's Daisy Robinson also has a crush on the new arrival, but has yet to reveal her feelings to the latest staff member downstairs. "Alfred's got a tormented time ahead. It's going to be good fun," Milne told Digital Spy. "Edward Speleers's new character Jimmy Kent comes in next week and he's going to add a whole new dynamic downstairs. So there's lots of fun in store." Speaking about arriving on set for the first time, Milne said: "I think it says a lot (more)...

It’s here! My favorite show on television has a trailer for the upcoming season, as PBS releases a glimpse of Downton Abbey season 3. Much of what we see our story elements we have already heard about, but it’s great seeing the lovely cast deliver on some of threads. We see the much publicized introduction of Shirley MacLaine, Lady Edith closer to a hook up, Bate and Anna having their convict relationship, and of course, the expected delivered greatness of Maggie Smith as the Dowager Countess.
Also, looks like Lord Grantham’s pockets may not be right. Wel aslo see a new character, Matt Milne’s Alfred that we got a promo image of last week. O’Brien’s nephew and new Downton footman (who looks really damn tall in comparison) is featured in a bit that shows us possible trouble between the dynamic duo of Thomas (who will...

I’m always on the hunt for anything Downton Abbey, my favorite current show on television, and what I thought was just going to a be a promo image look at a new character over at TVguide turned into a bunch of new information! Of course, you did get a look at the new Matt Milne (pictured) as the new Downton footman taking the place of the recently promoted Thomas, who assumed the role of valet now that Bates is going through his issues, a situation you can see in one of the promo images released last week. Milne plays Alfred, who is also kin to a possibly slightly reformed troublemaker, O’Brien. Apparently the word is that Alfred’s serving style clashes with Carson. I wonder if that means O’Brien is going to try dislodge Carson, now that Thomas may have more of the Lord’s ear. I...

Matt Milne has been cast on Downton Abbey Season 3.
The actor (War Horse) will come on board as Alfred Nugent, O'Brien's nephew and the footman who will take the place of the late William and recently-promoted Thomas.
Teases executive producer Gareth Neame to William Keck of TV Guide Magazine:
"Alfred worked silver service at a hotel and tries to serve that way, which would never be done in a home. It really rattles Carson."
Among other Season 3 teases offered by the producer: Thomas will find trouble when he makes an unwanted advance on another man; and the family will take a vacation on the season finale.
"We leave the house and go somewhere else for a period, with only some of the staff invited," says star Hugh Bonneville.
Downton Abbey premieres in the U.S. on January 6.

While we await the new season of Downton Abbey, we get a first look at the new footman played by Matt Milne, who is the nephew of the scheming O'Brien. He doesn't fit in, even going so far as to serve improperly. "Alfred worked silver service at a hotel and tries to serve that way, which would never be done in a home. It really rattles Carson." Also afoot, Thomas makes a pass at an unreceptive man. "Soliciting for immoral purposes was an imprisonable crime." Are they one and the same?

Yes, Downton Abbey! The best show on television is marching toward its third season and we have some promo images to keep people going until it arrives! A bit of everything here, though Lord Grantham, Lady Cora, and my girl Sybil are absent, including another look at perhaps the biggest name coming to Downton next season, Shirley MacLaine. You see her, playing Cora’s mother, paired with the glorious Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess, adding to the two video teasers we got of the two of them trading barbs from last week. Speaking of pairings, we also have a close shot of Matthew and Mary, Bates serving his prison time, Carlson keeping it classy, cooks deux, O’Brien giving a patent ugly look, and Edith (who always forces me to be against her for hating on Mary) with man!
Still more to come and see next season, including the introductions...

Lord Grantham keeps it eclectic in the Abbey and the latest additions to the servant staff at Downton Abbey stays true to that theme. While most of the talk between Downton seasons involving new characters for season 3 has revolved around Shirley MacLaine’s entry as the american step mom, we now have to more new face to announce in MyAnna Buring and Simone Lahbib.
Both Buring and Lahbib are set to start their service during the holiday, making their debuts during a Downton Abbey Christmas special. MyAnna, who is fine as hell, plays a vampire of the Denali Coven in Twilight Breaking Dawn and one of the stars of the great horror film The Descent, will assume the role of Edna, who is described as “forward thinking”. Lahbib, whom English viewers will recognize from Wire in the Blood and Bad Girls, takes on the role of Lady’s maid Wilkins.

There’ll be a host of fresh faces at Downton Abbey when the show comes back to the UK’s ITV later this year. Details are slight for the moment, but I’ve confirmed Ed Speleers has joined the cast as new footman Jimmy. Speleers, known for 2006′s dragon adventure Eragon, will next be seen with Timothy Spall and Jessica Szohr in the horror comedy Love Bite. Other recent staffers to join the Grantham estate include War Horse‘s Matt Milne as Alfred, a footman who’s also the nephew of is-she-or-isn’t-she-evil lady’s maid O’Brien. Newcomers Cara Theobold and Lucille Sharp are also on board as maids. In January, Shirley MacLaine signed on to play mother to Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora Grantham — and a foil for Maggie Smith’s irrepressible Dowager Countess. Mr. Carson better be ready for the new trainees he's acquiring in Season 3 of "Downton Abbey." It was previously announced that Matt Milne ("War Horse") has been cast as a new footman named Alfred. Now Digital Spy is reporting that Ed Speleers has been cast as the second new footman, Jimmy.
Speleers has most notably starred as the title character in "Eragon," alongside Jeremy Irons, Robert Carlyle and John Malkovich. He also starred on U.K. television series "Echo Beach."
In addition to the new footmen, "Downton" is bringing in a new kitchen maid named Ivy (Cara Theobald), Lady Cora's mother Martha (Shirley MacLaine) and Martha's lady's maid Miss Reid (Lucille Sharp).
So many new faces! We're glad the show is paying attention to our Season 3 Character Wishlist. The third season of "Downton" premieres in the U.K. in September, in the U.S. in January 2013.

In addition to screen legend Shirley MacLaine, "Downton Abbey's" third season is also getting some fresh faces in the form of two new maids, according to Digital Spy.
Cara Theobald (pictured, left) has been cast as a new kitchen maid named Ivy and Lucille Sharp (right) has been cast as Miss Reid, a lady's maid to MacLaine's Martha Levinson, the American mother of Lady Cora. You can see Sharp in recent picture in U.K. newspaper The Sun of MacLaine filming a scene in a car - Sharp is riding in front, as what is fitting a maid.
Sharp was raised in Lexington, Ky and went on to study at the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. She graduated last year.
As Zap2it previously reported, the house is also getting a new footman named Alfred, played by "War Horse" star Matt Milne.

We said in our "Downton Abbey" Season 3 character wish list that we hope the household would hire a new footman. William's death has definitely left a hole in the cast. Well, now we got our wish, according to Digital Spy.
Matt Milne has joined the "Downton" cast as Alfred, a new footman - who is also the nephew of O'Brien! Dun dun dunnnnn.
We wonder if he'll be another villain for her to manipulate like Thomas, or if he'll perhaps be a delightful young chap that everyone likes and who will refuse to do O'Brien's bidding.
We also wonder if Alfred is the son of O'Brien's favorite brother, the one who was killed that Lang reminded her of? That would be an interesting layer to add to the character.
Milne has previously been seen in "War Horse" and the upcoming "Wrath of the Titans." "Downton" is back in production as...
