An announcement was made in January that the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) underwent abdominal surgery and remained in the hospital for nearly two weeks. It was then reported that following her hospital stay, Prince William‘s wife would need a lengthy recovery at home as all her engagements were canceled through March.
Speculation and wild rumors have spread online about why needs so much time out of the public eye, but the Palace has insisted they are done commenting on her health. But while the royals may be refraining from commenting more, one of the princess’s family members is not. Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith, who’s her mother Carole Middleton’s younger brother, did so during his appearance as a contestant on the U.K.’s Celebrity Big Brother.

Celebrity Big Brother returned for the first time in six years to 2.7M viewers last night, as Sharon Osbourne and Kate Middleton’s uncle entered the house.
The show was just ahead of the launch of the civilian Big Brother UK in October, which secured 2.5M viewers, according to Barb data supplied by overnights.tv.
Celebrity Big Brother, which peaked with 3M, will now have the benefit of airing nightly on ITV main channel for the next three weeks in the primetime 9 p.m. GMT (1 p.m. Pt) slot and be given a big push on streamer Itvx. The civilian Big Brother kicked off in the same slot in October but was then moved to ITV 2 and ratings naturally declined from there – averaging around 1M per night.

Big Brother returned to UK screens for the first time in five years, but the iconic reality show failed to premiere with a big bang for ITV.
The 20th series of Big Brother launched on ITV1 and ITV2 to 2.5M viewers on Sunday evening, according to overnight Barb figures supplied by Overnights.TV.
This meant the Initial-produced format won the 9Pm hour, but was some way short of the highest-rated show of the day: Strictly Come Dancing, which entertained 6.6M viewers on BBC1.
Big Brother’s ITV premiere outperformed the launch of the final run on Channel 5 in 2018, when just 900,000 people tuned in for the start of Season 19.
Big Brother’s first season on Channel 5 performed better, however. Making its debut on the Paramount-owned channel in 2011, the reality show was watched by 2.6M viewers.

Simon Cowell's The You Generation is about to begin its yearlong quest to uncover hidden talent all over YouTube, and the blunt British music exec has invited some special guests to help kick things off in style. One Direction, best known for its huge Twitter following and sing-songy pop rocks anthems, is appearing on the channel at 2 Pm Est for a special performance of some sort. In a short preview, channel presenter Will Best hinted that the boy band's appearance may not be what fans are expecting. "Because we're all about hidden talents here on The You Generation, I'm going to be challenging them to show off a new set of skills." Is that new set of skills the ability to write their own songs? A live stream of the launch event will be available on The You Generation channel. One Direction have been allied with Cowell from the start.

We are back again for our second live blog of the 2013 awards season and tonight it's the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards and it's sort of fun to say that tonight there is actually a reason to watch and pay attention for anyone the least bit interested in the awards race. Will Best Ensemble go to Lincoln? Argo? Silver Linings Playbook? Will it be Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) or Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) taking home Best Actress? And what about Supporting Actor? will it be Robert De Niro (Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) or Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)? I think it's safe to assume Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) and Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables) will go home winners tonight, but otherwise it's a wide open show. You can check out the full list of nominees for both movies and television right here and the results of the RopeofSilicon reader predictions here.

Pardon the above pun, but TV’s latest dating show offer The Love Shaft, courtesy of E4, potentially belongs in the ‘so-bad-it’s-good’ category. Never mind Sky Living’s novelty nausea Dating in the Dark or the BBC’s thankfully forgettable Three’s a Crowd, this Monday night frightful delight is clearly the questionable credit on Will Best’s CV that every T4 presenter gets handed to by Channel 4 at some point during their stay – ask Alexa Chung with her one-series wonder Vanity Lair.
A straight girl or guy gets into the titular lift which usually provides better conversation than the potential suitor they meet at each floor. At these floors, our singleton can either swap or stay with their current date, with three buttons encapsulating the same levels of nail-biting anticipation as the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? lifelines. These buttons allow singletons to phone a friend for advice,...

Jameela Jamil is "absolutely terrified" of hosting this year's T4's Stars of 2011. The TV presenter - who is fronting the live music event at Earl's Court on December 11 alongside fellow 'T4' hosts Nick Grimshaw, Matt Edmondson, Georgie Okell and Will Best - is scared of falling over during the show, but she is not going to tone down her footwear choice. It's terrifying, you can't even...

Around Movieline HQ, Kyle Killen is somewhat of a folk hero. The screenwriter was responsible for two of our most-discussed projects in 2010: The short-lived-but-brilliant Lone Star, and the Mel Gibson comeback vehicle The Beaver (which will finally hit theaters this summer; fingers crossed). Naturally, it was a no-brainer to ask Killen -- who recently had his pilot script for the Inception-like thriller Rem picked up by NBC -- for his Oscar predictions in the lead-up to Sunday night. Will Best Picture go to those upstarts from Silicon Valley or the stuffy, upper crust royalty from 1930s England?...
