When Japanese manga-ka Hajime Isayama first wrote and illustrated "Attack on Titan" for serialized monthly publication in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, he had no idea that it would go on to become an international mega-hit. Basing the manga storyline on a one-shot prototype he had written when he was 19, Isayama spent years fleshing out the dangerous, combat-prone world of "Attack on Titan," where massive, man-eating beasts named Titans terrorize and devour humans. Isayama took inspiration for these giant humanoid antagonists from various sources — some aspects were a natural evolution of his pre-school sketches, while others were inspired by contemporary serialized manga, including Tsutomu Nihei's "Knights of Sidonia." However, in a 2014 interview with culture magazine Brutus, Isayama clarified that his Titans were based on Mma-themed magazines, along with several real-life WWE and UFC fighters, and mixed-martial artists.

When Alistair Overeem made his Ufc debut in 2011, he did it against the biggest opponent possible: former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. It was supposed to be a title eliminator, and Overeem won after a vicious blast to Lesnar’s midsection. Lesnar crumpled, not far removed from surgery for diverticulitis.
Overeem was on a huge high – briefly, before failing a drug test weeks removed from the fight. Though still within the window allotted time for testing as part of Overeem’s conditional license for the fight, the win for Overeem was not changed to a No Contest, though it could have been, and Lesnar did not contest the decision.
Since then, however, Mma fans have derided Overeem, most notably when he suffered crushing losses to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Travis Browne, and Ben Rothwell. And Lesnar never seemed to leave his mind, despite Overeem’s win over the WWE star.

There are two big Ufc events coming your way this weekend, and the second of them (we’ll cover more on the Tuf 20 finale once the fights are set following the final episode of the show) features the return to action of former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, lightweight Nate Diaz, and long-absent Stefan Struve.
This is a big card for a Fox event, and if they don’t totally kill it with too many commercial breaks, it should be a pretty exciting one. That said, it could also be a very short event, with the three heavyweight bouts on the card all capable of ending in a quick knockout. Should that happen, the Ufc may be looking to bump up a fight from the preliminary card onto the main broadcast as a reply to fill time – and luckily, there are enough decent fights on the prelims for this to be doable.

It appears to be a trend these days – call out a former Ufc heavyweight champion who isn’t even in the promotion any longer, and who retired from the sport years ago. Get lots of media attention, and profit?
Alistair Overeem did it in February after a match against Frank Mir. Frank Mir himself did it earlier this month, saying he was looking for a rubber match to finish out their trilogy, which has Mir and Lesnar tied at one fight a piece.
Now it’s Shane Carwin, a fighter retired for several years who was plagued by injuries before hanging up the gloves (as well as plagued by a steroid scandal). Carwin fell victim to Lesnar at Ufc 116, being choked out by an arm-triangle in the second round after having Lesnar hurt in the first. Despite a relatively short Mma career (seven fights in the Ufc, eight fights total), Brock Lesnar was one of the biggest draws in the sport’s history, and remains one of the most talked about fighters of all time. With his pro wrestling background and larger-than-life persona, Lesnar divided fans like no other.
However, one thing is certain: the sport misses him. The fans and haters alike miss him. The Ufc miss him. And their PPV buyrates most certainly miss him.
Since retiring from the sport after a loss to Alistair Overeem in December 2011, Lesnar has gone on to a lucrative second run in the WWE, essentially part-time, and recently became the face of the company yet again, beating John Cena in a showing beatdown to win the WWE championship.
That said, his contract will be up in 2015, and there is always talk of Lesnar returning.

Wrestling industry insiders have speculated on Brock Lesnar rejoining Ufc when his WWE deal expires this coming April. Dave Meltzer joined Jim Ross’ podcast and the pair talked about Lesnar’s future, with Ross noting that he understood there’d been no serious talks between WWE and Brock over a new deal. That raises the question of a potential Lesnar comeback in the Ufc.
Meltzer believes that it wouldn’t be in Lesnar’s best interests to fight as a 38 year old in 2015, but the Ufc is sure to offer leverage to any WWE negotiations. That’s because Ufc’s pay per view numbers have been declining since Lesnar left the Mma group, something which his return to the sport could remedy.
Brock was an attraction that was able to draw a million buys for a show, but he didn’t quite have the Mma skill to compete with Ufc’s top heavyweights.

The heavyweight division has (no pun intended) some of the biggest names in the Ufc, and a number of big fights have gone down, or been booked, recently. There are never enough big men in the organization’s ranks, however, and a lack of top prospects coming up means we often see the same old names fighting each other again and again. Think Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez fighting three times within two years, or Velasquez meeting Bigfoot Silva twice within that same timeframe.
That’s just the title picture, however. Outside the champ, there are a lot of heavyweight fights we would like to see. A lot of them involve some of the top names in the division, while others involve legends. You have the likes to Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Roy Nelson, Travis Browne, Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic, and...

After a five year undefeated run, they wanted to see him on the big stage. He had won championships in Dream, Strikeforce, and K-1. His accomplishments were endless.
The only goal left was to win the heavyweight title in the Ufc. It seemed evident that he would become champion following his domination of former champion Brock Lesnar. The newer fans were put on notice that a new heavyweight contender was here. The massive powerhouse wrestlers such as Lesnar and Shane Carwin were being phased out. Ufc Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Souza was, on paper, yet another great Fight Night card, and one that looked a lot more appealing than last month’s Ufc 177. It featured (originally) six main card fights, though some last minute shuffling re-ordered things to four. The event was broadcast on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S., but available only on Fight Pass elsewhere (including Canada, which may be a sign that the Ufc will move more to Fight Pass outside the U.S., as what is on free TV in the U.S. is usually free north of the border)..
Before the action even got underway, one fight was lost to illness, and suddenly, the focus in the Ufc was once again on cancelled bouts. Still, the Ufc card was a decent bet on paper, consistently better than the Bellator event also airing the same night – though to be fair,...

It’s a head to head battle between the world’s two premiere Mma promotions this Friday as Bellator 123 goes head-to-head with Ufc Fight Night 50.

Coming off a card that barely held water prior to the loss of main event fighter and former bantamweight champion Renan Barao, Ufc Fight Night: Souza vs. Mousasi looks infinitely better. This is what a Pay-per-View card needs to look like, with the one missing element being the lack of a title fight. Still, if you asked us to choose between Ufc 177 and Ufc Fight Night 50 (as this is otherwise known as), we’d choose this card 99 times out of 100, and plead insanity in that one lone case.
Just because Dillashaw vs. Soto didn’t totally suck doesn’t mean we’re forgiving the Ufc for their foolishly poor event planning in their last outing, but at least this card looks to deliver.
Will it? Probably. In all honesty, Ufc Fight Night 50 would probably have to actively work to fail, barring injuries. Every single fight on the card is competitive,...

It’s out with the old, in with the new over at Bellator this Summer, as founder Bjorn Rebney has been cut loose, and Strikeforce founder Scott Coker has been brought in to replace him. Coker has a lot of goodwill in the Mma world with both fans and fighters from his Strikeforce days. With a solid TV deal behind him, Coker handed out lucrative contracts to the likes of Jake Shields, Dan Henderson, Gilbert Melendez, Nick Diaz, Josh Barnett, Fabricio Werdum, Robbie Lawler, Nate Marquardt, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, and most importantly, Fedor Emelianenko.

For the second time in two months, the Ufc will be offering two cards in a single day. On June 28th, the promotion will host Ufc Fight Night: Te Huna vs. Marquardt and Ufc Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens. Is this a windfall of fights for Mma fans, or a case of quantity over quality?
With PPV buyrates on the decline, the Ufc has been looking to network and cable television more and more over the past year, airing free fights via a lucrative deal with Fox which draw in solid ratings and advertising dollars. At the same time, the promotion has launched Ufc Fight Pass, its online content delivery service, which hosts original shows (Fightology), fight archives for the Ufc, Wec, Strikeforce, Pride, Affliction, and Invicta, and airs live events for the Ufc and, soon, Invicta Mma.

Ufc featherweight champion Jose Aldo is feeling undervalued by the Ufc and believes he should be earning more money, according to an interview with Espn Brazil in his homeland.
Aldo is regarded as the number two ranked pound for pound fighter in the world today according to Ufc rankings. He has won 17 fights in row and has defended the Ufc/Wec featherweight championship eight times in a row. The Brazilian will look to extend that streak as he faces Chad Mendes in a rematch at Ufc 176 on August 2 in Los Angeles, California. Given his high profile in Mma, it is surprising to hear him so vocal on the issue of pay from his employer. He explicitly tells Espn Brazil that he feels he should be getting more money.
“Certainly, I feel underpaid,” Aldo stated. “Talking in numbers is difficult. A fighter dreams of reaching a level where he makes good money.

It’s very possible that at one point in the recent past, Brock Lesnar was the most intimidating human being to ever trample the soil of Earth. You could argue a case for gentlemen like Genghis Khan or Vlad The Impaler, but honestly neither of those guys could land a shooting star press on their enemies (and despite the contradictory evidence of WrestleMania 19, Brock Can successfully perform one). Now granted, Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem may have somewhat contributed to the lessening of said intimidation factor, but there’s no denying that Lesnar is still a monster among men.
Rarely have we seen a physical specimen so perfectly suited to be a professional wrestler. Combining the elite athleticism of someone half his size with the physical traits of something more suited to fighting Kaiju than mere men, Lesnar is an awesome presence outside the ring and a one...

In terms of pre-fight greatness and potential, the upcoming main event on Ufc 156 could perhaps be the greatest fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s history. Reigning Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo defends his title against Frankie Edgar. It’s the #4 P4P fighter against #7.
Mitchell Stucky joins me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (#022) to preview the upcoming event.
Main Card Overview
Joseph Benavidez (16-3) vs. Ian McCall (11-3-1): The first fight on the main event is a Flyweight match-up, the bridesmaids of the championship tourney that ended with Demetrious Johnson as the titleholder. Both fighters have good power with 4 KOs each and superior wrestling, but we expect Benavidez to grind out a decision victory with his superior work ethnic and dedication to the sport. “Uncle Creepy” has been far too inconsistent in his last few fights.

Now that Strikeforce has finally closed its doors, parent company Zuffa can officially announce the full list of fighters that have been brought over to the top-level promotion, the Ufc. The introduction of these fighters, mainly in the Mw, Ww, and Lw division, gives added life and excitement to a promotion putting on more events and more fights each year, particularly with the massive Fox deal. In truth, several notable Strikeforce fighters have already made the transition over to the Ufc over the last year, including Alistair Overeem and Ronda Rousey.
From the heavyweights, Daniel Cormier (11-0) is the sole entrant to be initially announced. He is a former Olympic wrestler and heavyweight grand prix winner. The weakest division in terms of depth got two new faces in LHWs Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2) and Gian Villante (10-3). While Villante is still a prospect, expect Mousasi to immediately make noise with...

2012 is over and what an amazing ride. The Ufc inked a paradigm-shifting, multi-year deal with Fox. They held more events, more fights, and carried a bigger roster than ever before. They anointed a new female champion Ronda Rousey (6-0). Champions returned (Gsp & Cain), legends retired (Tito, Fedor, Hughes) and the Greatest only pushed his atmospheric legacy to new heights.

In episode #012, we’re back to preview the upcoming Ufc pay-per-view event, Ufc 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2. I’m joined by my co-host, Marcus Mitchell, as we delve into the Facebook prelims, the FX prelims, and finally the main card in what is sure to be contender for the best of the year.
Episode Summary: There are several jewels hidden away in the undercard that are definitely worth watching. One of the very best is the Flyweight match-up between John Moraga (11-1) and #7 Chris Cariaso (14-3). Both of these fighters love to stand and bang. You can expect fireworks, but we give the slight edge to Moraga with his high level wrestling pedigree.
Next comes Leonard Garcia (15-9-1) vs. Max Holloway (6-1) in a Featherweight match-up. Garcia has lost three straight and his most recent wins have come off of highly controversial split decisions over the Korean Zombie and Nam Phan.

Monday night Raw 18th March, 2002. A three way match is being contested for the now defunct Hardcore Championship. The ring is a mess, garbage cans, road signs, kendo sticks, bodies are littered amongst the ring but that is before the real devastation is truly about to begin. From out of the crowd appears this monster, the size of a heavyweight and with the agility of a cruiserweight he performs his repertoire of devastating moves, laying waste to the three participants. Stood in the ring amongst the carnage ex Ecw boss Paul Heyman raises the beasts hand. The The Next Big Thing has arrived.
The next big thing had most certainly arrived, although Lesnars career was a short one it was a highly accomplished and rewarding. He captured the WWE Championship no less than three times, became the youngest competitor ever to hold the title (at the time) won the King of the Ring...

Ufc Undisputed 3 is the third entry in Yuke's mixed martial arts fighting series. In a move that could prove as difficult as five rounds with Brock Lesnar (or perhaps that should be Alistair Overeem), Yuke's must try to improve on the excellent Ufc Undisputed 2010, which was roundly praised for its intuitive, satisfying and brutal gameplay. Keen to see how they better the previous instalment, Digital Spy tapes up the fists and pops in the mouthguard, as we go toe-to-toe with Ufc Undisputed 3. With a mightily impressive platform to build upon, Ufc Undisputed 3 isn't in need of an overhaul, but a few tweaks and modifications. The latest game includes a brand new submission system, the addition of the even more brutal and bloody Pride mode, multiple new control methods and all of the usual visual and presentation upgrades we've come to expect (more)...

Jim Ross, the man who discovered Brock Lesnar and brought him to the WWE in the first place, has updated his blog to talk about the rumours of Brock Lesnar returning to the WWE after retiring from Mixed Martial Arts and Ufc last Friday.
Jr says he could see Lesnar returning to the WWE for the odd one-off pay-per-views (such as next year’s WrestleMania but not this year’s) but never as a full time or even part time performer;
- Will Brock Lesnar return to WWE full time or part time? For those that know Brock well, the answer to this question is actually quite simple. It’s No. Brock dislikes, putting it mildly, traveling. Plus, he doesn’t need the money even though he’s smart enough to not turn down a big payday if the lay of the land is to his liking. That’s why...

Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer appeared on Yahoo Sports’ Ufc 141 wrap up show after the Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem main event and said that he believes Brock Lesnar will return to the WWE soon but not on a full time schedule.
Meltzer says;
Brock will do a WrestleMania for a huge pay-off and maybe two or three pro wrestling matches.
He then says Lesnar’s star value has probably been diminished because he was knocked out in two straight fights and retired without the World Title but Vince McMahon will still be desperate to make a deal with him for a brief return to pro wrestling. Meltzer says he will return to wrestle but…
“… not that often, maybe 1 or 2 shows here or there… Eventually he is going to do a WrestleMania, I am sure of that. When it’s going to be? Who knows because that is going...

On December 30, 2011 at Ufc 141, Brock Lesnar entered the octagon for the eighth time against Alistair Overeem (36-11). Two minutes, twenty six seconds, and a liver kick later, the fight and Lesnar’s career were over.
In the post-match interview with Rogan, Lesnar humbly declared his retirement after two tough years of illness, surgery, and successive losses. He was an Ncaa champion, a professional wrestler, a failed football player, and now a retired cage fighter.
Its now our job to figure out what Brock and his short, but enigmatic career actually meant.
The Fighter
Brock is a free style wrestler. Or perhaps I should say, “was” because the last time he wrestled competitively prior to joining the Ufc was way back in 2000 when he was an All-American and National Champion for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. And nothing says bad ass like a gopher. Especially the golden ones.

Brock Lesnar retired from Ufc 141 last night after getting his butt kicked. According to the Huffington Post and numerous other sources, one of the Ufc's most popular fighters Brock Lesnar has decided to just up and quit the Ufc 141 after Alistair Overeem royally kicked his butt last night. It was just too much for the big man. He took a big kick to the stomach and slumped to the side of the cage, and apparently thought, man this is it, at the time. Lesnar lost in the very first round at 2:26,and said, forget this crap. I'm out for good. The L.A. Times speculated that he may return to his WWE roots after this to do some more fake fighting instead. Lesnar's official statement was, "This is the last time you'll see me in the octagon." Lesnar played a big role in expanding the Ufc's profile due to...

A return to pro wrestling for the first time since 2006 and likely a return to the World Wrestling Entertainment where he made his name for the first time since 2004 now seem almost certainly on the cards. In a year in which the Ufc was elevated from being simply the pre-eminent Mixed Martial Arts organisation in the world to the status of an unwieldy Leviathan- capable of, and quite happy to- eviscerate or subsume all that stands in its path; no contest could more fittingly draw a curtain upon 2011 than the Heavyweight headline bout between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem.
Though profoundly dissimilar in multifarious respects, what unites both men is extraordinary physical power and athleticism.
