Kamal Samir is an Egyptian cinematographer and rising image-maker. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts in 2006, but was self-educated; using mini digital cameras -- the only option available in his hometown -- he experimented with lighting modes and camera movement. Infatuated with cameras, he went on to document his surroundings, gaining insight into people's stories.
Hawi, directed by Ibrahim Al-Batout, was his first feature film. Many documentaries and commercial videos followed, during which he developed his cinematography skills. His works focus on natural lighting, framing and the depth of human emotion.
