Last Week’S Review: Rick Goes Recruiting in ‘Rock In The Road’
Whose Episode Is It?
Two main plotlines run through “New Best Friends”: The Ricketeers meet a new group of truly odd survivors, and Daryl considers his options in the Kingdom and reunites with Carol. This gives the episode a bit of tonal whiplash, since the Rick stuff is downright goofy (yes, goofier than the Kingdom), while Daryl and Carol’s scenes are emotionally fraught. Still, both storylines are satisfying in their own way.
Yet Another Human Faction
Hoo boy, this new group introduced this week. They take Rick and the others to their lair, which is a huge garbage dump. Rick’s still grinning, because he’s happy to recruit anyone into his war, even this group of high-wattage mega-weirdos. The Dumpsters are more like a post-apocalypse faction you’d find in “Mad Max”; they speak in short,...

7.9 Rock In The Road
Stop me if you've heard this one before: Rick Grimes and company look for allies to band together with them to square off against a big threat. If it sounds familiar, that's because it is, and it comes with all the talking points we're used to from the Grimes crew. Kill them before they kill us. If we all band together and work together, we can defeat any threat. Things will only get worse if you don't stand up to the Saviors.

Mid-season Finale Review: ‘Hearts Still Beating’ Promises Excitement In 2017
Whose Episode Is It?
It’s a Ricketeer road trip! Rick’s inner circle (plus Jesus) head from community to community, trying to get everyone on board with their war against the Saviors, with mixed results. The good news is that “Rock In The Road” moves pretty briskly by “Walking Dead” standards (mercifully, the runtime is less than 90 minutes), there’s some fresh zombie action, and no Negan to be found (save for a brief radio message). It’s a welcome respite from the repetitive misery of the first half of the season. Plus, King Ezekiel is back! And the tiger!
Viva La Revolución
We open with Gregory roundly refusing to join Rick’s rebellion, and also refusing to honor the terms of Hilltop’s initial agreement with Alexandria, since Alexandria didn’t manage to wipe out the Saviors as promised.

A Brilliant Mind director Morgan Matthews [pictured] will direct Gypsy Boy, James Graham’s adaptation of Mikey Walsh’s bestselling memoir.
Born into a gypsy family famed for its boxing prowess, Walsh faced a difficult decision after realising he was gay – stay within a community that cannot accept him, or walk away from the only life that he knows.
BAFTA-winning Matthews, known for his acclaimed documentary work, previously directed 2014’s X+Y (also known as A Brilliant Mind), also from a James Graham screenplay, which starred Asa Butterfield.
BBC Films revealed Matthews’ attachment here in Cannes.
Industry attending a BBC Films lineup event saw clips from forthcoming productions including Ricky Gervais’ Life On The Road and Mandie Fletcher’s Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie as well as Holocaust drama Denial, starring Rachel Weisz.
Also on the BBC Films Cannes slate are:
Ken Loach’s Competition...

The Performer | Alicia Witt
The Show | The Walking Dead
The Episode | “The Same Boat” (March 13, 2016)
The Performance | Since Paula wasn’t going to live through “The Same Boat,” Witt, who played Carol and Maggie’s captor, didn’t have a moment to waste. She had to make sure right from the start that we felt like we knew Negan’s henchwoman. So, in her first scene, the actress tempered Paula’s contempt for her hostages with a confidence that was chilling to behold, creating in the process a character that we not only recognized, we feared.
But — and herein lies...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 topped the Thanksgiving weekend box office holding off all newcomers, which included Pixar's newest release, The Good Dinosaur. The weekend doesn't end with Katniss Everdeen's repeat effort, however, as Warner Bros. finally has something to brag about once again with the impressive opening of Creed while Fox's Victor Frankenstein becomes one of the worst wide release openings of all-time. Beginning at the top, Mockingjay Part 2 scored an estimated $51.6 million for the three-day weekend, signifying only a 49.7% drop. Should these estimates hold, Part 2 will be the only film in the Hunger Games franchise to drop less than 50% in its second weekend. The film is still playing well behind all of its predecessors, but its clearly a massive hit for Lionsgate as it has now crossed $440 million worldwide Coming in second is Pixar's The Good Dinosaur, a story that will be interesting to see play out in the media.

Leaving Beth and the rape cop hospital behind for the time being, this week’s episode of The Walking Dead catches us up on the single-minded mission of Sgt. Abraham Ford, a man on a mission to save the world. Abraham persistent drive to save the world as we used to know it seems to cause conflict with everyone he comes in contact with, and why not, in his charge is the man with the know-how to slay every single last zombie and make the Earth a planet of the living once more. That drive is perhaps the reason why Abraham can’t see that there are some holes in Eugene Porter’s story, why even to the ears of a non-scientist, Eugene seems not entirely knowledgeable for a guy employed by the Human Genome Project. The question as to Eugene’s veracity comes to a head this week in “Self Help.
