The question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" is incredibly unfair. Sure, it helps receptive parents usher their children into classes and programs that suit their child's current interests of the day, but I feel like there is this undercurrent of prepping children for the workforce at a far too early age, locking them into whatever they loved at a certain moment in time. People should be able to explore and try different things as they grow into who they are meant to be. Also, we shouldn't look down at people who haven't figured out their path in life on some strict timeline. Let them stumble upon the thing they love to do on their own schedule.

Exclusive: The life of one of Hollywood’s leading men, Cary Grant, is to be portrayed by Jason Isaacs in an ITV and BritBox International drama, Deadline can reveal.
Philomena and Stan & Ollie writer Jeff Pope is writing and exec producing Archie, named after Grant’s birthname Archibald Alexander Leach. ITV Studios is producing and the four-parter will be a flagship premiere on soon-to-launch streamer Itvx.
Grant is widely recognized as one of Hollywood’s leading men, gaining a reputation for his transatlantic accent, sense of comic timing and handsome, debonair demeanor over more than 70 films in a decades-long mid-twentieth century career.
He was twice nominated for an Academy Award, in Penny Serenade and None but the Lonely Heart, and worked with the biggest stars of the day including Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly and Doris Day.

Aldous Huxley, Cary Grant and Clare Boothe Luce – a grouping that might sound more like the set-up for a joke than the premise of a musical – were, in real life, proponents of lysergic acid diethylamide, what we’d now call early adopters. Though each of them tripped the light phantasmagorical during the 1950s, the writer, the movie star and the ambassador never actually came face to face, much less mind to mind, at least as far as we know, but they somehow should have, a situation the new, very original and often delightful musical Flying Over Sunset seeks to rectify.
With a book and direction by James Lapine (Into The Woods), music by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) and lyrics by Michael Korie (Grey Gardens), Flying Over Sunset boasts a top-notch creative team and cast and a physical production that’s one of the most ravishing on Broadway. Carmen Cusack (Bright Star) as Luce,...

To celebrate Variety’s 115th anniversary, we went to the archives to see how some of Hollywood’s biggest stars first landed in the pages of our magazine. Read more from the archives here.
In 1929, Variety hated the musical comedy “A Wonderful Night” at Broadway’s Majestic Theater (“remarkably dull … the outlook for this one is dreary”). However, there was praise for one of the stars, Archie Leach — who in a few years would change his name to Cary Grant and conquer Hollywood and the world. “Archie Leach makes a handsome leading man, but some of the lines of fearsome insipidity that he has to utter discounted most of his natural grace.”
Handsome, natural grace: Those words offer a hint of Leach/Grant’s appeal. Three years later, in 1932, Variety ran a two-sentence item: “Cary Grant, new leading man on the Paramount contract list, hails from vaudeville where his monicker was Archie Leach.

To the public, the late Cary Grant was a handsome and successful actor. But behind closed doors, he struggled with a very tough loss. The late star's childhood wasn't easy, and that was because his father, Elias, had secretly committed his mother, Elsie, to an asylum when he was a young boy. Cary once described the betrayal as "a void in my life, a sadness of spirit that affected each daily activity with which I occupied myself to overcome it." That said, it wasn't until later in life that he really found happiness. "Most of the people who truly knew him commented on the fact that he was a much happier person in the later part of his life," his fifth wife Barbara Jaynes, 68, told Closer Weekly in the magazine's latest issue, on newsstands now. Cary especially found joy when he married British hotel PR agent in 1981. "Once he realized how much I loved him,...
