Kal Penn admits he didn’t know much about Anna Nicole Smith’s physician, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, before he was approached to star as the doctor in the indie adaptation of his memoir, “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.”
“But then I read the doctor’s autobiography and found it interesting and compelling,” Penn told me Monday night at the South Asians at the Oscars party on the Paramount lot.
Variety’s Tatiana Siegel exclusively reported Feb. 23 that Penn is set to portray Sandeep in “Trust Me, I’m a Doctor,” which chronicles Smith’s final days before dying of an accidental overdose in 2007 at the age of 39. Kapoor became entangled in Smith’s death when reports surfaced that he wrote her prescriptions to addictive drugs.

Throughout her all-too-brief life, Anna Nicole Smith played a variety of roles on screen and off, identifying as someone different to everyone in her orbit. Even her name was part of a manufactured persona, carved from the same marble as Marilyn Monroe — an aspirational idol of hers. The buxom blonde bombshell represented the dynamic range a woman’s identity could span, from the saintly to the sinful. Born Vickie Lynn Hogan, she swapped her small-town woes for a ticket to stardom as a Playboy Playmate, Guess Jeans pinup girl and glamorous movie star: a walking, talking billboard for fashion, sex and, later, severe misfortune.

Lucknow, March 21 (Ians) For the first time this year, the active tally of Covid-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh has crossed the 100 mark.
The tally, by Monday night, stood at 102 while the state capital had 12 active cases.

Lucknow, Feb 7 (Ians) Orthopaedic doctors in Lucknow are getting cases of fractures without any history of fall or accident.
According to Dr Sandeep Kapoor, a renowned orthopaedist, “These are happening due to weak bones, particularly weight bearing ones like pelvic joint or knees.”
He said, “Recently, there was this case of a woman who felt she could not walk after getting up in the morning. In this case, the body weight had led to excessive pressure upon bones that went gradually weak due to osteoporosis and broke at one point. This woman did not have any history of any fall or injury and this is what she insisted upon despite a clear fracture in the x-ray.”
He said pain without injury in the body is a warning sign.
Dr Sandeep Garg, another orthopaedist, said, “Women are very careful about the health of their kids and spouse but ignore their own...

When Anna Nicole Smith was found dead in a Florida hotel room in 2007, authorities recovered nearly a dozen different prescription and illicit drugs from her bedside, many of them prescribed by the hundreds. The drugs included sedatives, muscle relaxers, painkillers and sleep aids.
Investigators soon charged several people in Smith’s inner circle with felonies related to her death.
Dr. Sandeep Kapoor was a Los Angeles physician who was alleged to have prescribed Smith with methadone and Vicodin, among other drugs. In 2009, he was charged with eight felonies, including conspiring to furnish controlled substances, unlawfully prescribing a controlled substance and obtaining fraudulent prescriptions.
