Netflix’s “Black Mirror” returns to the Emmy Awards after a four-year break with its sixth season that premiered back in June 2023. The trajectory of the Charlie Brooker anthology series at the Emmys has been a tumultuous journey, particularly in recent years. The science-fiction dystopia used to dominate the limited/movie genre, winning Best Television Movie for three consecutive years at its height, before the Television Academy ruled that it must compete for the drama categories for its fifth season in 2020, ending its streak. Then the following year, the top category for limited series was changed to Best Limited or Anthology Series, placing “Black Mirror” back into the genre, but in the more competitive limited series race rather than the standalone television movies.

Could Scottish soccer be the next to benefit from Hollywood investment?
In a situation reminiscent of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McEIhenney’s takeover of Welsh soccer side Wrexham, former Netflix international originals chief Erik Barmack looks set to acquire a stake in Motherwell Fc.
A report in the Scottish Daily Mail has named Barmack as the unnamed U.S. investor who is planning to buy into the Scottish team, which plays in the Scottish Premiership alongside the likes of giants Celtic and Rangers.
Reynolds and McElhenney took over Wrexham for about £2M ($2.5M) in February 2021 when the club was playing outside the professional English leagues, but have led a transformation by investing heavily and marketing the team internationally through FX doc series Welcome to Wrexham. Wrexham currently sits third in League Two, three below the Premier League, and Motherwell fans will be hoping Barmack can lead their club to similar new glories.

The Black Mirror episode “Loch Henry” not only features one of the most shocking twists of season 6, it also has arguably one of the most beautiful and picturesque settings of the series thus far. Despite the haunting air that envelops the town near the titular loch, as Davis (Samuel Blenkin) shows Pia (Myha’la Herrold) around his former home, it’s easy to see why Loch Henry was once such a popular tourist hotspot.
Loch Henry and Davis’ hometown may be fictional, but according to actor Sam Blenkin during a press junket, the episode was shot at several real-life locations that he and the rest of the cast were “sort of blown away” by. Blenkin says “We shot about half an hour out of Glasgow, which I thought was amazing. So we were around Loch Lomond for a bit. And then we drove up the road to Arrochar and Inverarnan, which...

It was only a matter of time before “Black Mirror” came for the streaming industry, and Season 6 takes a couple of swings directly at Netflix right out of the gate. First with the star-studded, hyper-meta episode “Joan Is Awful,” which introduces the Netflix clone Streamberry (and an arsenal of Easter eggs and references therein). But Episode 2, “Loch Henry,” quiets things down to tackle a much more specific streaming ill — the soulless, exploitative true crime industrial complex and the constant stream of true crime docs digging up traumas from the past.
“Loch Henry” follows an aspiring filmmaker back to his Scottish hometown, where he intends to make a documentary about eggs, only to get sucked into making a film about the horrific crime case that transformed his hometown from a former tourist destination into a desolate ghost town. In “Black Mirror” tradition, the ensemble is a healthy mix of familiar faces,...

Loch Henry is the second episode of season 6 of the popular series Black Mirror. Starring Samuel Blenkin and Myha’la Herrold, written Charlie Brooker and directed by Sam Miller, this episode blends traditional British storytelling with the new Netflix style that emerged after the streaming giant acquired the rights to the series.
Black Mirror: Loch Henry
The plot follows a couple who embark on a true crime documentary about local events, including murders, kidnappings, and a suicide. The story revolves around the discovery of what was found in the basement of a farmhouse, and although it is not heavily focused on technology, it does have elements of classic horror.
“Loch Henry” is an excellent episode that breaks away from the series’ tendency to parody technology. Instead, it presents a true crime documentary that reveals the dark secrets that were hidden in the basement and the crimes that occurred there. The...

In retrospect, it was probably inevitable that reality would catch up to Black Mirror. Not in the literal sense (we still don’t have cookies or grains, and thank goodness for that), but in a spiritual one. When the series launched in 2011, it stood out for its deep skepticism in the age of tech optimism. Now actual headlines about AI replacing human workers or entire democracies being upended by social media algorithms feel like the stuff of Black Mirror plotlines, much in the same way the Trump era outdid Veep and Peak TV brought some of 30 Rock’s most cynical gags to life.
Add to that the general sense that creator Charlie Brooker might be tiring of the whole exercise, going by season five’s uninspired entries, and it’s little wonder that the newest batch feel less prescient than they once did. But Black Mirror has one final...

Astronaut angst, ethically dubious documentarians, and a hit streaming series that literally becomes a black mirror of someone’s life — it’s all there in the new Season Six trailer for Black Mirror.

Sounds bad, but hey, who wouldn’t be at least a little flattered if they were being portrayed by...

Just when you thought it was safe to be on your phone again, the near-future sci-fi anthology series "Black Mirror" is returning to Netflix for season 6, with a star-studded cast and plenty more portents of doom.
Actually, though, this upcoming collection of stories won't just be another iteration of "what if phones, but too much." Creator Charlie Brooker told The Sunday Times that he's become "a bit bored" with the typical formula for the series. "I didn't want to be just hitting the same premises over and over again. Like, 'What if this app ruined your life?'" Brooker elaborated. "Or, 'Oh look! It turns out you're in virtual reality.' So there was a slight reset."

“Black Mirror” is making its triumphant return with five new nightmares, premiering on Netflix on June 15.
The anthology series’ sixth installment is once again getting meta in an episode titled “Joan Is Awful,” which follows an average woman (Annie Murphy) who is alarmed to realize that streaming platform Streamberry — whose setup bears an obvious resemblance to Netflix — has debuted a TV adaptation of her life.
“That’s Salma Hayek?” Murphy says in the Season 6 trailer teasing the episode, which also stars Ben Barnes, Himesh Patel, Michael Cera, Rob Delaney and Salma Hayek Pinault.

Black Mirror season six finally has a date.
The long-awaited return of Charlie Brooker’s Netflix anthology series is June 15, the series announced along with episode descriptions and the full official trailer on Wednesday.
The season is confirmed to be five episodes, which is two more installments than the last season that released back in summer of 2019.
In the official announcement about the Emmy-winning series’ return, Brooker said he “stretched the parameters” of what to expect from a Black Mirror episode for the forthcoming season. “I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this...

We all thought it was over ... because we're living it. But no, "Black Mirror" is returning — and much sooner than you might think. The Emmy-winning series is back for season 6 in two months, and they even surprised us with an interesting, silly, and somewhat intense teaser trailer to get us excited.
In the one-minute sneak peek, we get a glimpse of new and bizarre stories that seem to include a massive spaceship, totally archaic dial-up internet, and a woman getting her head brutally bashed into a glass showcase. It looks crazy, chaotic, hilarious, and upsetting — which means "Black Mirror" seems to be up to all its old tricks and possibly even more.
Oh, and they also seem to include some seriously thrilling actors. The cast this season is totally stacked—and it's massive too. Aaron Paul, Salma Hayek Pinault, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Zazie Beetz,...

Expect the unexpected… says Charlie Brooker in the official announcement of Black Mirror season six.
The long-awaited return of Brooker’s Netflix anthology series is coming in June, with plans to “reinvents itself with each new episode.”

Per logline, the sixth season of Black Mirror is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet. And Wednesday’s announcement came with a teaser trailer for a first look at what to expect.

“Black Mirror” is coming back to Netflix. The streaming service announced Season 6 of “Black Mirror” will debut in June, four years after the truncated three-episode Season 5.
“I’ve always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people — and myself — or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself,” creator Charlie Brooker told Netflix in an interview with the brand’s proprietary media outlet, Tudum.
According to Brooker, a five-time Emmy Award winner for numerous “Black Mirror” projects, this new season of the anthology series seeks to tweak expectations from the start. “Partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect,” he said. “Consequently,...
