HBO had the Lakers, now FX has the Clippers. Will the series’ fates differ (as the real-life teams’ have), or will “Clipped” face the same quick, quiet end as “Winning Time”? We’ll find out this June, when FX’s latest ripped-from-the-headlines adaptation premieres exclusively on Hulu. The trailer was released Thursday, April 25 — just under six weeks prior to the premiere — and now you can watch the first footage below.
Set in 2013, the six-episode limited series stars Ed O’Neill as L.A. Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as the team’s head coach, Doc Rivers. Formerly with the Boston Celtics (who won an NBA title in 2008), Rivers had just joined the Clippers when the owner’s racist comments went public, sending the organization into a tailspin and Sterling into a power struggle with Rivers, players, and the NBA at large. Jamie Foxx seems to finally be on the mend, with him posting a video on Instagram that – for the first time – addresses the health challenge that sidelined him for months. You can see the video below, but Foxx, while not getting into specifics, says he went to “hell and back”, but also throws cold water on some of the rumors, notably that he went blind and became paralyzed. “Now, you know, by being quiet sometimes things get out of hand. People saying what I got, some people said I was blind, but as you can see … the eyes are working just fine. Said I’m paralyzed — I’m not paralyzed.” Foxx also thanked his family and doctors for not only supporting him, but also allowing him privacy from the media as he fought to regain his health. ‘They Cloned Tyrone‘ is directed by Juel Taylor and stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, and Jamie Foxx.
This comedy blends absurd humor and government conspiracies, relying heavily on the charisma of its main trio.
And you know what? They deliver, especially Jamie Foxx.
Plot
A drug dealer, a pimp, and a prostitute stumble upon a government conspiracy to manipulate social behavior.
Movie Review
A tribute to 70s cinema in the purest “Pulp” style. This movie could have easily become a forgettable parody, but instead, it asserts its worth through visual elements.
They Cloned Tyrone
No, it’s not “art-house cinema” nor a film for niche audiences. It’s a highly entertaining comedy with extravagant dialogues that, through surrealism and farcical situations, reflects on more serious matters while maintaining a comedic tone without delving into social criticism.
Above all, it’s a very enjoyable film that owes much to the excellent performances of the actors and,...

‘They Cloned Tyrone’ Review: John Boyega, Teyonah Parris & Jamie Foxx In Grim But Gutsy Genre Mashup
Rather resembling a blaxploitation-based cousin of Invasion of the Body Snatchers with a deeper sense of social consciousness, They Cloned Tyrone is a predominately grim yet intriguing account of constrained, little-hope lives victimized even further by nefarious secret attempts to transform them into obedient, well-behaved zombies. Set in what appears to be the late ‘60s-early ‘70s based on the period cars, outfits and outlandish hairstyles, Juel Taylor’s feature directorial debut, which he wrote with Tony Rettenmaier, delivers live-wire performances from the young cast but nonetheless remains notably dire, even forlorn in its depiction of small-town lives momentarily confronted with a bizarre enemy found right in their midst. This Netflix offering opens theatrically July 14 for a week prior to its move to home tubes July 21.

What happens when a pimp, a sex worker and a hustler come together? They encounter a series of strange events that take them down a journey to unlocking the government’s insidious plans to hypnotize and control a community of people.
“They Cloned Tyrone” welcomes watchers to The Glen, a normal, everyday neighborhood where its predominately Black residents live out their lives shopping, going to church and enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Netflix’s They Cloned Tyrone follows John Boyega’s Fontaine, Jamie Foxx’s Slick Charles and Teyonah Parris’ Yo-Yo as they solve a murder that leads them to peel back the layers of a larger issue in their community.
At Tuesday’s premiere of the film, Boyega and Parris pulled up in a convertible before hitting the carpet, where the stars gave an update on the missing part of their trio, as Foxx continues to recover from a medical complication he experienced earlier this year.
“I spoke to him recently and he just wished me the best of luck with the press tour, and he assured me that he’s all good,” Boyega said. “It’s all love.”
Parris added that she heard Foxx was doing “really well” and “I’m happy that he’s taking the time he needs to heal in whatever way that is for him.”

Ever since premiering in July 2020 — in the heart of a pandemic that shuttered the very strip clubs it depicts — Starz’ “P-Valley” has been one of the most consistently subversive and provocative shows on television. The drama, which Katori Hall adapted from her play “Pussy Valley,” follows an ensemble of adult performers making ends meet at The Pynk strip club in the fictional town of Chucalissa, Mississippi. The series was notable for its three-dimensional portrayal of sex work — which was shaped by its all-female creative team — as well as its charming cast and endlessly fabulous costume design.
By the time Season 2 premiered, the series had built up a passionate fan base that was eager to see what their favorite diverse group of strippers was up to. At IndieWire’s Consider This Event in Los Angeles on Saturday, “P-Valley” stars Nicco Annan (Uncle Clifford), Brandee Evans (Mercedes), and J. Alphonse Nicholson (Lil Murda...

There’s no show quite like “P-Valley.” Starz’s Mississippi-set crime drama may have flown under the awards radar after its first season, but its blend of film noir tension and soap opera theatrics — all set in the world of a small-town strip club called “The Pynk” — is more than deserving of its flowers.
Series creator Katori Hall developed the show for television based on her less shyly-named play “Pussy Valley.” But that’s a tidbit easy to forget when watching. This is a story that feels skillfully designed for the medium of television, where the eclectic cast of characters have room to grow and bounce off one another across arcs and seasons. “P-Valley” isn’t recognized enough for having one of the most colorful and talented ensembles on television: a team which includes Nicco Annan as the non-binary club owner Uncle Clifford; Brandee Evans as veteran dancer Mercedes; Elarica Johnson...

Jack Harlow makes his acting debut in the new remake of “White Men Can’t Jump.”
“It was grueling. It was a hot summer,” the 25-year-old musician told Variety at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Thursday night. He stars in the movie as Jeremy, a basketball hustler.
While shooting the film, Harlow was also juggling the production of his latest album “Jackman.” “I just made it work,” Harlow said. “I’m a hardworker, I guess.”

He was one of my first castmates to ever call me before shooting to work on lines together. I have a lot of love for him. Add another Starz series to the list of shows suspended as a result of the writers strike.
P-Valley has postponed its production in Atlanta.
Deadline understands that the series had recently finished its writers room for season three but production had not started.
Creator and showrunner Katori Hall said, “We will not be filming until a fair deal is reached”. We hear that filming had not started but Hall’s comments refer to the writers room.
“Like many of my fellow showrunners, I feel as though my writing and producing duties are inextricably linked,” she added, “I am also a member of the DGA whose AMPTP contract begins negotiations today. Overlapping issues abound and we shall see how these stories end. As a writer I strike with a sense of radical dignity — that our work must be valued for the magic it is.”

There have been rumors swirling for a while now that Lionsgate Entertainment's premium cable and satellite television network, Starz, is heading toward a possible sale. The channel has been delivering fantastic series and specials as of late, like "Gaslit," the Watergate drama starring Julia Roberts, and the upcoming return of the Hollywood catering comedy, "Party Down." Starz doesn't often get the spotlight compared to its contemporaries like HBO and Showtime, but the channel is home to one of the best shows in television history, and the fact the entire world isn't constantly running personal Emmy campaigns at all times for it is a crime ... especially when the show is heading into its third season.
"'P-Valley' continues to keep viewers on the edge of their seats as it captures the nuances of the Mississippi Delta with an unprecedented level of humanity and artistry," said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz.
