During the early development for Warner Bros.' upcoming follow-up to 300, Battle Of Artemisia, there was interest in bringing back Gerard Butler's King Leonidas for a cameo appearance. Butler even said that he'd love to do it if it was "something special". With production underway for a 2013 release, many have been wondering if Butler was still interested in making an appearance. However, in an interview with MTV, the actor confirms that he won't have anything to do with the Noam Murro-directed film. "Oh, yeah, I'm not doing it," Butler told the site. "They're filming [the '300' sequel] right now. I wish them the best, but it didn't [work out]. It wasn't really my thing." The cast currently consists of Evan Green, Rodrigo Santoro (who reprises his role as King Xerxes from the first movie), Sullivan Stapleton, Callan Mulvey and Jack O'Connell. The story, based on Frank Miller's Xerxes graphic novel, follows...

English director Simon West has been brought on to direct Dust and Glory.
The Expendables 2 and Tomb Raider director will helm the story set in the 1950s, following a car race that covered 10,000km around Australia and focused on the rivalry between an American driver and his Australian counterpart.
Robert Galinsky (Prey) has written the script based upon the Evan Green novelisation of the events.
Along with Galinsky’s Top Cat Media partners Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman (Prey, Hating Alison Ashley) and David Parker (The Big Steal, Matching Jack), Blue Star Entertainment’s Jason Shuman and William Sherak (Role Models) will produce.
Galinsky said: “Simon West was our top choice and couldn’t be more perfectly suited to tell this story. We are beyond excited to have him.”
The film is scheduled to begin production this summer in Australia.

Briefly: Simon West, the director of Con Air, The Expendables 2, and the Nic Cage film Stolen that we just mentioned this morning [1], is now in talks to make a new 'racing romance' called Dust and Glory. THR [2] says the film is based on a novel by Evan Green, which is set during the Redex trials [3] of the '50s. That is, a race that covered thousands of miles of very difficult Australian landscape. In fact, the trade says the book and resulting script (by Robert Lewis Galinsky) is something like Mad Max crossed with Jewel of the Nile. (What, a Romancing the Stone reference wasn't available?) There's no casting yet; producers of the indie hope to cast the film by the end of this year, and shoot in Australia by summer 2012. West, meanwhile, has to finish The Expendables 2, and he's also set to direct the mo-cap CGI war film [4] Thunder Run.

Simon West is a busy man. The Con Air auteur is in the midst of shooting The Expendables 2, will release Medallion (more on that in a second) just a few months apart from the sequel, and has Thunder Run either in production or prepping to shoot. Somehow, THR informs us that he’s in talks for yet another project, Dust and Glory. Based on Evan Green‘s romantic adventure novel, the story is set during “the 1950s’ Redex trials, which covered more than 10,000 miles of some of the toughest racing terrain in Australia, if not the world.” The actual plot — adapted by Robert Lewis Galinsky and noted as “a cross between Mad Max and Jewel of the Nile” — follows “the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.”
Top Cat Productions and Blue Star Entertainment will be independently producing the film, which is expected to go before cameras this coming summer in Australia.

Where do you go after putting Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and Jean-Claude Van Damme onscreen together? Do you retire and call it good? I think I might. But I'm not Simon West, who is riding his laurels straight into the world of indie action, and going down under for "Dust and Glory."According to The Hollywood Reporter, West is tackling an adaptation of Evan Green's novel for Top Cat Media and Blue Star Entertainment. Information on the "romance adventure" is slim (the novel appears to be out of print) but it's set during Australia's grueling REDex races of the 1950s, and follows the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend. It's being described as a cross between "The Jewel of the Nile" and "Mad Max," presumably because no one wants to invoke that other racing romance, "Sahara." (The Brooke Shields movie of the 1980s.

After overdosing on testosterone on the set of Sylvester Stallone.s Expendables 2, director Simon West plans to purge his creative palette with a trip Down Under to film Dust and Glory, a racing movie that reportedly captures a slice of Australia.s automotive history. Based on Evan Green.s novel of the same name, Dust takes place during Australia.s infamous Redex Trials in the 1950s. They were lengthy, difficult races around the continent that actually happened, though Green mixes fact and fiction for his adventurous novel. Back when the novel came out, the plot was described as a mix of Mad Max and Jewel of the Nile. Had they said Romancing the Stone I.d be 100% on board, but still, those are intriguing tones to mash together, so West has plenty to work with. The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the story, says West would like to start filming in...

Simon West most recently directed The Expendables 2 and also directed films such as The Generals Daughter, Tomb Raider, The Mechanic, and more. This seems like a film project that completely fits the directing talent of West and it would be great if he ended up taking on the project.

Top Cat Films may have found a director for their upcoming racing tale, Dust and Glory . The Hollywood Reporter has word that Simon West has entered negotiations. Based on a novel by Evan Green, the film adaptation is officially described as follows: "Dust and Glory" is the story of a car race. the longest, roughest, toughest craziest car race in the world . a 10,000 mile event, right around Australia. It is set at a time when roads around the coast were outback tracks of appalling roughness and a journey like this was more a pioneering adventure than a motor sport. The redex Trials of the 1950s captured the imagination of post war Australia like no other event. Through regular radio updates the entire country followed the fortunes of the competitors during...
