The world is heating up out there, but the gusts and erratic temperature swings of early Spring can often be deceiving. One minute it looks sunny and warm, the next you’re stranded on a long walk in just basketball shorts when a sudden chill descends. Or it looks nasty, and all of a sudden you’re overdressed in 80-degree heat. It might be best to stay safely within the confines of your local art house or home theater with some Don’t-Miss Indies instead.

"You guys, this whole thing is a bad idea." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for the indie comedy Wes is Dying, marking the feature directorial debut of up-and-coming filmmaker Parker Seaman. This meta filmmaking comedy is about a filmmaker who tries to make a documentary about a dying friend - but it all goes wrong. Of course. Reminds me of the recent Black Mirror episode "Loch Henry". After finding out their best friend is dying, filmmakers Parker & Devin decide to document their journey to see Wes one last time - all in the name of Hollywood success. As they hit the road to document their journey to see Wes one last time, their missteps & interpersonal troubles threaten to derail the movie and also ruin their friendship. Starring the writers Parker Seaman & Devin Das as Parker & Devin, along with D'Arcy Carden, Wes Schlagenhauf, and Mark Duplass. Oh this looks way better than expected!

"Grandma has an order to maintain." 1091 Pictures already opened this odd dark comedy, psychological thriller mashup titled Keeping Company back in June (on VOD). We're just catching up with this trailer now and it's worth a quick look anyway. A fateful chain of events begins to unravel after two brash insurance salesmen go knocking on the wrong door and find themselves trapped inside of a serial killer's basement, putting their lives and their jobs on the line. Reviews praise the film: "A crime, a horror, a comedy, and even a thriller, Keeping Company taps into the best elements of cinema to deliver a deep examination of greed, capitalism, and the wealthy, all while remaining entertaining along the way." The distributor says it "mixes ruthless corporate salesmen with vicious suburban serial killers and asks if you can tell the difference." Sounds like some messed up fun! Starring Jacob Grodnik, Devin Das,...

"Sonny and Noah are two brash door-to-door salesmen climbing the ranks within the corporate world of insurance. One day, after feeling the heat from their boss to get their sales numbers up, they cross paths with Lucas, an enigmatic, anti-social creature, whom they see as a potential new client. With no regard for Lucas' plea for privacy, they rudely force their way into his house but soon find themselves trapped in his basement, incapable of escaping. As the spotlight shifts toward Lucas and his demanding Grandmother, the similarities between this sinister household and the ruthless world of business begin to parallel each other. An exploration on the importance of wealth and class in today's society, Keeping Company mixes ruthless corporate salesmen with vicious suburban serial killers and asks if you can tell the difference.

Last March, I, like hundreds of thousands of other people, found myself laid off. For the first time in years, I actually had time to think, but ironically, I thought a lot about work. It’s kind of depressing how so much of our lives revolve around working. What’s worse is that for many of us, if we want any recognition, any hope of a raise or promotion, or sometimes even to just keep our jobs, we have to dedicate more and more of our lives to outdo our coworkers. If you’ve ever had a job that just sucked the life right out of you, check out Keeping Company and it will make you feel a whole lot better about your situation. No matter how badly your day went, you probably didn’t end up in a serial killer’s basement.

The film received its European premiere at the virtual festiva and follows two salesmen who knock on the wrong door and find themselves trapped in a stranger’s basement.
