In 2003 I started RopeofSilicon.com with the sole purpose of creating an online portfolio with the intention of getting a job as a freelance writer for an entertainment outlet. By 2007 it was a full-time job, writing about movies on a daily basis. Now, twelve years later, it's time to move on as RopeofSilicon.com has come to an end and is shutting down as of right now... but not without first thanking you, my readers. RopeofSilicon was a website built on a community of readers. I realized early on the value of a readership, no matter how big or small, and in the twelve years I've spent running this site I have made valuable friendships with both readers and others in the industry from fellow movie bloggers to local, national and even international publicists. Friendships that don't end with the shutting down of this website. I also want to acknowledge...

So, one of our podcast listeners ripped a recent "Trailer Talk" segment from the RopeofSilicon podcast where we watched the first Jem and the Holograms trailer and give us video to accompany the conversation. It was probably our best (or at least most entertaining) installment of this particular segment that we've ever had thanks in large part to podcast co-host Laremy Legel's incredulous response to what he was seeing. If you're interested in listening to the full, May 15 episode you can do so here, but check out the video below. Note: The conversation is not safe for work environments as it does contain some explicit language and, yes, the audio on the trailer is a little off near the end, but I don't think it diminishes the conversation in the least. yt id="lBXFSo4v_Ks" width="515"...

Photo: AMPAS Oscar Musts: Predictions | Nominees | Presenters | Printable Ballot It's that time of year again and I welcome you to the 2015 Oscars Live Blog with up-to-the-minute live winners, commentary, red carpet coverage and overall merriment. We are kicking this thing off around 4 Pm Pst or so and carrying on until 9 Pm Pst or whenever this thing ends, which means you better have food, water and perhaps a tasty beverage or two because it's going to be a long night. I've already posted my predictions and have collated the reader polls into one, easy-to-read place along with my predictions as well as my Oscar-blogging co-hort and podcast partner Laremy Legel. You can find all three, one after another with the differences highlights right here. As far as my predicting prowess is concerned, last year I went 21 for 24 and I always shoot for at least 20 correct... we'll see how this year turns...

Time's up! The results are in, the polls are closed and we have our 2015 Oscar Predictions. At the bottom of this post I've included my predictions in all 24 categories along with those of my Oscar live blog and podcast partner Laremy Legel, followed by the results from the reader polls from earlier this week and just like last year there are a couple differences to note. Between the three sets of predictions, I'm the only one predicting an Eddie Redmayne win for Best Actor while Laremy and the readers are sticking with Michael Keaton. I've definitely gone what I would consider to be the "safe" route and wouldn't complain one bit if Keaton ended up taking the statue. Laremy and the readers also see a The Grand Budapest Hotel win for Best Original Screenplay while I went with Birdman and in one more category, Best Live Action Short, the readers...

Over the course of the evening expect commentary, winners and anything else that comes to mind. I will be breaking things up on an hourly basis, providing a page break at the end of each hour to hopefully keep things manageable and in the right hand column you will notice I have placed a list of the winners,...

As I'm sure you're well aware, a massive hacking of Sony Pictures has taken place, which has resulted in a flurry of revelations as emails between Sony executives and their contacts have been made public. A variety of outlets have covered the story in detail and it all reads like a dirty memoir, while at the same time offers fascinating insight into an industry that somehow manages to keep a lot of its dirty laundry quiet. You hear rumblings every now and then, but nothing too damning or revealing. With this recent hack the studio has reportedly had to suspend filming on some of its features as it can't process payments and in our first story looking at the fallout we'll take a look at the saga of one film that was once in Sony's hands and how it came to find its way to Universal. Myself and my podcast...
