Following the killing of seven World Central Kitchen workers by an Israeli strike while delivering food to Gaza earlier this week, House Democrats wrote a letter on Friday to U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging them to halt the the transfer of weapons to Israel until a full investigation into the airstrike was completed.
The letter, spearheaded by Reps. Mark Pocan, Jim McGovern and Jan Schakowsky, was signed by 40 lawmakers including Nancy Pelosi and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

While all eyes were on a federal courthouse in Miami this morning, House Republicans voted to prohibit offering life-saving abortion care to pregnant veterans — as well as to ban the pride flag from flying at Veterans Administration facilities.
The vote came in the powerful Appropriations Committee, where 34 Republicans outvoted 27 Democrats in a party line vote.
Back in September, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced it would provide abortions to veterans and V.A. beneficiaries (the family members of veterans, usually) if their life or health were jeopardized — services that would...

Update: C-span has formally asked House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to cover floor proceedings by installing a few additional cameras in the chamber.
The letter from C-span co-ceo Susan Swain follows widespread praise that the network received for its coverage of last week’s speaker vote. Because it was a special event, C-span obtained permission to cover the proceedings with its own cameras. That gave viewers a much more candid glimpse of lawmakers on the floor. Most other times, C-span coverage of the House floor is via stationary cameras controlled by the government.
“During last week’s Speaker election, C-span was permitted to bring its own cameras into the chamber,” Swain wrote. “The public, press, and Member reaction to C-span’s coverage-along with the “transparency” themes in your new rules package-have encouraged us to resubmit a request we have made to your predecessors without success.”
C-span is finding some support among lawmakers.

Sen. Bernie Sanders will introduce a resolution on Thursday aimed at blocking a planned $735 million sale of precision-guided weapons from the U.S. to Israel. And Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Mark Pocan and Rashida Tlaib, introduced a similar measure in the House on Wednesday.
According to a draft of the resolution, first reported by the Washington Post, Sanders is looking to stop the planned sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs) and Small Diameter Bombs as hostilities continue between the Israeli military and Hamas in and around Gaza. Congress has...

A group of Senate Democrats is calling for a ceasefire in the Middle East after a week of conflict between the Israeli military and Hamas that has left more than 200 people dead, including dozens of Palestinian women and children.
But the lawmakers’ push for an immediate end to the violence comes amid a broader split over whether the United States should push for an end to a conflict in which civilians are being killed. While some Democrats are calling for an immediate halt, others are keeping quiet or backing the ongoing Israeli military operation.

San Francisco, March 28 (Ians) A former Amazon worker has sued the e-commerce giant in the US for not scheduling the mandatory 30-minute meal breaks for employees.
Lovenia Scott, a former employee of Amazon's fulfilment centre in Vacaville, California, alleged that the company didn't provide enough rest breaks for workers, The Verge reported on Saturday.
"When they did get their meal breaks, workers were expected to monitor their walkie-talkies in case of any problems on the floor, which sometimes cut into their break time," the lawsuit claimed.
First filed in San Francisco County Superior Court in February, the case has now been moved to US District Court California, Northern District.
The lawsuit also alleged that shifts were "chronically understaffed," which left some employees unable to take short 10-minute rest breaks in order to finish their work on time.
Amazon was yet to comment on the report.

In a conversation with reporters on Wednesday, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway defended President Donald Trump’s repeated attacks on mail-in voting.
She did so by likening the task of standing in line at a cupcake shop to waiting in line to vote at the polls.
“People very proudly show up and go to the polls,” Conway said on the White House lawn. “They really are…I mean they wait in line at Georgetown Cupcake for an hour to get a cupcake. So I think they can probably wait in line to do something as consequential and critical and constitutionally significant as cast their ballot.”
Trump himself voted by mail in the last election. White House Spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany has voted by mail 11 times in the past 10 years.
See Conway’s comments to the press below.

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic defended the honor of Nickelback and grunge bands everywhere on Twitter Thursday.
The musician’s tweet was prompted by a surreal series of events in which President Donald Trump tweeted out a meme about Joe Biden featuring the Nickelback song “Photograph,” and either the band, or their label Warner Bros., filed a copyright complaint to have the clip taken down. The Internet, unsurprisingly, had a field day with the takedown as opinions on Nickelback effectively split down party lines.

The latest cartoonishly evil headline to come out of the Trump administration involves Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ plan to cut funding for the Special Olympics. Is this actually true? Yes, and on Tuesday, lawmakers grilled DeVos over a budget proposal that includes over $7 billion in cuts to education programs, including several for those with special needs. The proposal eliminates all $18 million in federal funding for the Special Olympics, which is roughly a tenth of its total budget.

Washington — Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-wa) and Rep. Mark Pocan (D-wi), the new leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, often get asked the same question: “Are you going to be the Tea Party of the left?”
No, they say during a recent interview with Rolling Stone, and here’s why: the Tea Partiers and the far-right Freedom Caucus, which peaked in popularity near the end of the Obama administration, mostly succeeded at killing legislation, forcing moderate Republicans into early retirement and derailing the work of Congress. The Progressive Caucus, on the other hand,...

Donald Trump‘s inauguration won’t be a star-studded affair on Friday — and it’s shaping up to be skippable by many politicians as well.
Though he won the Electoral College by 306 votes to Hillary Clinton’s 236, he’s starting off his presidency with the lowest approval rate in decades — just 40 percent, according to a CNN/Orc survey. (Before he took office in early 2009, Barack Obama’s approval rating was 84 percent, according to the same survey.)
That disapproval has seeped into the Capitol, with 51 members of Congress (at current count) abstaining from Trump’s inauguration and the following festivities.
Most notable is Rep.
