God save the audience for “God Save the Queens,” a muddled drag artist-focused comedy with zero laughs that also features some implausible dramatic interludes.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which popularized and mainstreamed drag for the masses, has now been running for 14 seasons; the show has become a sort of institution, still zealously watched and dissected by fans, but drag artists find themselves in an increasingly awkward position in the current landscape of heated debates on gender and sex. That awkwardness is sometimes the very tentative subject of “God Save the Queens,” which retreats into vague uplift whenever a truly serious side of this issue might emerge.
First-time writer-director Jordan Danger attempts to center the film on four struggling drag artists who are sent to a therapy retreat to work out their issues with each other, but this lame plot device kicks in about midway through the movie, and this sometimes makes...

As Covid-19 forced cities into lockdown, nightlife shut down almost overnight, taking countless gigs and jobs with it. With no ability to stage shows, draw crowds, or even just dance it out with their friends and chosen family, drag performers have had to turn to digital platforms to keep themselves afloat, both financially and creatively. BenDeLaCreme, formerly of “RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars,” postponed her summer tour and banded together with other queens to create a “Queer Quarantine” radio show. New York City artist Untitled Queen embraced the new possibilities of pre-recorded video performances, particularly in terms of being able to caption everything for deaf and hard of hearing audiences who rarely get to fully enjoy drag shows. And Biqtch Puddin, the season 2 winner of “Dragula,” has hosted a digital drag show on Twitch every Friday, attracting some 40,000 live viewers with dozens of acts from around the world.

Chris here, champing at the bit to just get RuPaul's Drag Race All Star-ted, already! We are only a week away from a new season of mega-wattage lipsyncs and high stakes before another queen joins previous All Stars winners Alaska Thunderfuck and Chad Michaels in the Drag Race Hall of Fame. We still have no sign of the mystery tenth queen, so we can expect the show to save her for a big reveal as it did last season with the return of Cucu. However, we can expect a slew of guest stars including Titus Burgess, Vanessa Williams, Kristen Chenoweth, and, catch this, Nancy Pelosi!
And to aid our speculation on the eventual winner before the premiere, we've gotten a glimpse at the first looks as the queens enter the workroom. Since we're Drag Race obsessed, let's rundown the best first impressions and rank the looks:...

The competition series RuPaul's Drag Race, which pits top drag queens against one another across a series of fabulous, colorful challenges, is having a moment. It drew record ratings for its season nine finale and hauled in its first-ever crop of Emmy nominations a few weeks later.
Meanwhile, on platforms like YouTube, some of the queens who have appeared on Drag Race are finding big audiences for their vlogs, music videos, and other pieces of glammed-up content. From Martha Thomases’s column of August 4: Last week Heather Antos, an editor at Marvel, went out with a bunch of her colleagues for milkshakes at a nearby Ben & Jerry’s and posted a selfie on Twitter. She said “It’s the Marvel milkshake crew! #FabulousFlo.” The hashtag refers to Flo Steinberg, who had just died.
So, you know, a Friday after a long week, Heather and a group of her pals went out to remember a woman who was their friend and mentor. They didn’t go to a bar. They went for ice cream. They posted a photo on Twitter because that’s what the kids do these days. I don’t know what could be more wholesome.
Naturally, there was an upset. To some, this photo represented everything that was wrong with Marvel today. Women and people of color in editorial offices apparently is a menacing concept to them,...

2017-08-02T08:52:14-07:00Trump Was Going to Play the President in 'Sharknado'
In January 2015, two years before he was sworn in as president, Donald Trump was set to step into the same role in a very different capacity: He had signed on to play the president in 2015's Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!
Producers' first choice to play the leader of the free world in the Washington, D.C.-set disaster film was Sarah Palin, but negotiations with the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee had fallen through. That's when Ian Ziering, the gung-ho star of the schlocky Syfy franchise, had the inspiration to capitalize on the special relationship he'd developed with Trump while taping Celebrity Apprentice (Ziering made it as far as the penultimate task). His reality TV boss would make a good commander in chief, he reasoned. An offer went out.

Can you believe that this season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars was only eight episodes? It feels like we have been gagging over the seemingly endless stream of drama and twists for much longer, but now the season must come to a close. After last week, the internet was vocal about Alaska's tantrum and even I took some flak for considering her run otherwise unsatisfying - but Alaska did play it smart with the fallout.
For the queens final challenge, they put on a supersized showgirl musical number with original raps written around their personas. Before the performance, the girls also visited Ru and Michelle Visage for a mini segment of their podcast "What's The Tee?", narrowly avoiding the podcast's shucking for SquareSpace ("you know it really is so easy") and Casper mattresses in a tweaked version of the old Tic Tac lunches...

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2’ Winner on Snatching the Crown, Her Haters and Who She Wanted To Win
RuPaul crowned the winning queen on RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 2 finale Thursday night. And while Roxxxy Andrews, Detox and Katya Zamolodchikova tried their best, they were unable to best Alaska Thunderf — 5000 from snatching the crown.

How is RuPaul's Drag Race doing it this season? Eight years into the RuVerse and despite a trainwreck of a first attempt with All Stars, All Stars Season 2 is arguably earning its rather instant rep as "Best Season Evah, Yaaaas." The first season, an ill considered 'doubles' event was echoed if you will in Episode 5's "Ru-Venge" narrative in which the eliminated queens were brought back and chose comedy partners from the remaining queens. Somehow even this unmistakable reminder of Season 1's slog of watching divas drag basic bitches around like dead weight behind them transcended the concept.
It helps I think that RuPaul is playing with the format more than ever. Usually when stars have nothing left to prove they coast. Ru did win a long deserved Emmy recently and dont you forget it. (Logo won't let you, bless.) But America's favorite Drag Superstar is making...

Putting a Drag Race twist on the classic game show Match Game, each of the queens dresses up as a well-known celebrity, TV personality, musician, or public figure - basically whatever their beautiful heads can dream up. There have been plenty of iconic "Snatch Game" moments through the seasons, but last week's edition took things up a notch. As part of Rpdr All Stars season two, we witnessed Alaska Thunderf*ck as Mae West, Tatianna as Ariana Grande, and, most brilliantly, Katya as Björk. The 31-year-old YouTube sensation is joining the panel alongside Carson Kressley, Michelle Visage and RuPaul herself. In addition to an exclusive sneak peek at Hall's introduction along guest judge Raven-Symoné, People has the exclusive sneak peek at Hall on Thursday's premiere!

Get ready for the return of your favorite drag queens because later this month RuPaul's Drag Race is giving us another All Stars season. Can you believe we are already getting more eleganza when it feels like season 8 just ended?
In case you haven't seen the cast, here's our returning queens:
Adore Delano (Season 6) Alaska (Season 5) Alyssa Edwards (Season 5) Coco Montrese (Season 5) Detox (Season 5) Ginger Minj (Season 7) Katya Zamolodchikova (Season 7) Phi Phi O'Hara (Season 4) Roxxxy Andrews (Season 5) Tatianna (Season 2)
That is an overload of season five realness, but if it means the return of Rolaskatox, we are perfectly okay with that. Tatianna is the only returning early season competitor and maybe the season's underdog - don't forget she was the original Snatch Game winner with her Britney Spears ("I got lost!"). Overall this cast is heavy with strong performers ready to bring the drama. This round is forgoing the first...

Back in 2009, you'd be hard-pressed to find an average American who knew the definition of a death drop or how to read a queen for filth. That all changed with RuPaul's Drag Race, the must-see competition series returning this summer with its second All Stars season on Logo. And it promises to be bitchier and funnier than ever.
"The girls dropped whatever they were doing to do this," RuPaul says. "We've got a hundred girls now, so we could pretty much do All Stars forever."

What can you say about Miley Cyrus' closing number at the 2015 Video Music Awards? There was a ridiculous death drop (thank you Laganja Estranja). There was a kiss with reigning "RuPaul's Drag Race" champion Violet Chachki. Oh, and yes, Ms. Vivacious looked a week bit tired, but chances are unless you're a fan of the only hit show on the Logo TV network you likely had no idea who those drag queens dancing around Ms. Cyrus were. Let us enlighten you. It turns out Cyrus is such a big fan of "Drag Race" and drag in general that she sat through taping of the season 7 finale this past May. She smartly put some of the better dancers around her on the front part of the stage including the previously mentioned Estranja, Alyssa Edwards (whose audio can be heard in Cyrus' new song "Dooo It!") and Shangela (a trio who...

The tepid seventh season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" came to a close last night in decadent fashion. The three finalists, Ginger Minj, Pearl, and Violet Chachki sashayed for Ru's final blessing. Who won? Check below. We'll tell you why it's annoying. Though Ginger Minj was the favorite going into the finale thanks to her wild showmanship and electrifying impersonation of Adele, the crown went to Violet Chachki. Take a look at her season highlight reel. In seasons past, contestants won "RuPaul's Drag Race" for exhibiting a range of charismatic traits. Season six winner Bianca Del Rio was snide, ferocious, and whip-smart. Season five winner Jinkx Monsoon was kooky, kitschy, and slyly carnal. Violet Chachki, meanwhile, is certainly a glamorous and compelling stage-walker, but she's exhibited none of the comic verve that has made so many other notable contestants (Sharon Needles, Alaska, Adore Delano, Willam) such indelible characters. In fact, Violet...

When RuPaul's Drag Race sashayed into our lives in February 2009, it didn't instantly snatch wigs. In fact, it's taken six seasons (including one All-Stars edition) for the show to permeate the mainstream, earn inclusion in nearly every "Snubbed By Emmy" story and be considered Must See TV.
But loyal fans have known since day one that RuPaul was on to something special with this eleganza extravaganza, and now Logo's giving Johnny-come-lately's the chance to come correct and -- finally -- experience the first edition of Drag Race! The 9-episode season, which has not been re-aired or available on DVD due to legal issues, premieres tonight and includes never-before-seen footage, new cast interviews and "peek-a-Ru" pop-up commentary!

The legendary James St. James is back on the scene in a whole new way: with a stunning new YouTube series that you literally can not miss out on.
Over the past few months, everyone's favorite club kid and celebutante has released weekly videos in his "Transformations" project, each featuring a prominent makeup artist, performance artist or, more recently, your favorite queens from "RuPaul's Drag Race!" St. James gives up all agency over his appearance in every episode and allows his guest to completely transform him through the lens of their own individualized aesthetic.
Having undergone 17 transformations throughout this project, St. James started the series featuring a range of artists, from Billy B and Squeaky Blonde to Rainblo and Fade-Dra Phey. However, as the series progresses, many more recognizable faces from the "RuPaul's Drag Race" franchise begin holding court, including Raja, Mathu Anderson and Manila Luzon.

So it all comes down to Jinkx Monsoon or Sharon Needles.
Both of the finalists had tough fights to get past the semi-finals. Jinkx was up against Alaska Thunderf*ck (the only remaining Queens Tournament competitor who wasn’t also a RuPaul’s Drag Race Season Winner.) The fans came out in force for both ladies, but in the end Jinkx baked a Alaska by a vote of 22,502 to 25,206.
Everyone knew the Alaska vs. Jinkx match-up would be very close (as it was in Drag Race Season 5), but perhaps the bigger shocker was just how close race between Sharon Needles and Bebe Zahara Benet was. In the end, after 55,000 plus votes were cast in the bracket, only 506 votes separated them. Congratulations to Bebe, the original Drag Race champion, for her very impressive run throughout the competition!

Last night the most contentious round of the tournament closed, narrowing the field of contenders down to our final four: Alaska Thunderf*ck, Bebe Zahara Benet, Jinkx Monsoon and Sharon Needles.
Bebe had a fairly easy go of it with her win over Jiggly Caliente (who nevertheless did amazingly well throughout the tournament). The other three brackets were crazily competitive. Alaska beat Raja by only 600 votes (less than a percentage point). Sharon Needles had been trailing tournament underdog Jessica Wild most of the week before pulling out a small lead on Friday. At the closing bell, with 45,000 votes cast in the bracket, Sharon was up by only 4300 votes. (Congrats to Jessica for a very impressive run in this tourney.)
But by far the most contentious match-up was Jinkx vs. Willam. Over 75,000 votes were cast in that bracket alone, and in the end Jinkx squeaked by with less than a 600 vote margin (50.31% v.

Over a hundred thousand votes have been cast so far in our Queens Tournament which pits all sixty previous RuPaul’s Drag Race contestants in a bracket style tourney to see who truly is the Ultimate Queen. We’re down to just 16 fabulous ladies, and it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top.
Round 2, which closed this weekend contained some real nailbiter brackets: Raja beat out Raven by a mere 220 votes, Jiggly Caliente pulled a surprising upset and knocked out Carmen Carrera by a 40 vote lead, and perhaps the biggest upset of all: Jessica Wild put the lid on Pandora Boxx by a mere 18 votes.

Over a hundred thousand votes were cast in Round 1 of The RuPaul’s Drag Race Queens Tournament and 32 contenders for the crown are left standing.
A couple of observations about the contest so far: First off, there was a clear winner in almost every single bracket of Round 1. Only one of the 32 matchups was even close. (And kudos to Victoria “Porkchop” Parker who beat out an actual pork chop by four votes!) Things are likely to get far more competitive in Round 2 when the more popular remaining queens start going up against each other.
Second, we included four joke “spoiler” entries in Round 1 to make it an even 64 competitors in the bracket tourney. We didn’t really expect the joke contestants to make it past the first round… and yet three of them did: “a block of mahogany”, 2 piece and a biscuit and “Grumpy Cat”. Here’s hoping they don’t survive the second round.
