The MCU currently has numerous projects in development, both movies and shows, despite Iger’s announcement that their creative output will significantly decrease to 2-3 movies and 2 live-action shows per year.
Many projects were greenlit before the SAG-AFTRA strike and the subsequent failure of several ventures, and now they need to be completed.
One such project is ‘Armor Wars.’ Initially conceived as a movie, it was redeveloped into a show, and now it’s back to being a movie again. According to the production schedule, ‘Armor Wars’ is set to begin filming on January 6, 2025, in Atlanta, USA. Although details about the movie are scarce, the production listing has provided a brief synopsis:
Cheadle returns as James Rhodes aka War Machine in Armor Wars, about Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands. Stark discovers that someone has been stealing his...

Actor Terrence Howard was last seen in the biopic Shirley as Arthur Hardwick Jr. The actor has worked on quite a few projects despite announcing his retirement plans back in 2022. However, while the Iron Man star gears up to hang his coat, he has also reportedly been working on himself and has undergone a boy transformation.
In his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Howard spoke about changing his diet and detoxing from the ‘parasites’ in his body. He credited his wife, Miranda Pak, to have encouraged him to work on himself and change his habits. He mentioned that since they met, Howard has had many changes that have led him to look much younger than his age.

Before Don Cheadle gladly made James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine his own, it was actor Terrence Howard who played the role in Iron Man (2008). Due to a series of unfortunate events, the actor was replaced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. became an A-list star and the face of one of the biggest Hollywood blockbusters ever in 2008. Of course, there was one actor who left the superhero flick feeling completely let down by Marvel Studios. Yes, we’re talking of Terrence Howard, who donned the role of James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes; but was later replaced by Don Cheadle in the sequel, Iron Man 2.
But don’t worry, it seems Howard has moved on and has no ill will toward the franchise or his former co-star, Downey Jr., despite his initial shock and disappointment at not being cast as Rhodes in the later films.

Terrence Howard played the role of James Rhodes in the first installment of ‘Iron Man.’ It was a pretty big role as he was considered a co-lead, side by side with, at the time, Iron Man, whose role was not cast when Howard himself got the role.
According to the actor and some different reports, the studio wanted to go with a different actor altogether but Howard sacrificed $1 million from his own pay to secure the audition for Robert Downey Jr.
Following a series of incidents of a personal nature, Howard was eventually recast and replaced by Don Cheadle, something that almost derailed his career. Howard recently opened up on his experience and all the emotions he was feeling after being snubbed by the studio, and surprisingly he felt the most hurt by Robert Downey Jr.

In the inaugural ‘Iron Man’ film, Terrence Howard portrayed the character of James Rhodes, a significant role often seen as a co-lead alongside Iron Man. Interestingly, when Howard landed the role, the part of Iron Man had yet to be cast.
Reportedly, the studio initially favored another actor, but Howard relinquished $1 million from his own salary to secure an audition for Robert Downey Jr.
After experiencing a string of personal setbacks, Howard found himself replaced by Don Cheadle, a move that nearly derailed his career. In a recent discussion on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Howard candidly shared his emotional journey following the studio’s decision, expressing surprise that he felt the most hurt by Robert Downey Jr. Howard revealed that he reached out to Downey Jr. for assistance when he faced the possibility of losing the role but received no response, leading to a three-year silence between them.

Marvel Studios has a lineup of projects slated for release or development in the coming years. While progress on most of these projects is clear, one movie has been stuck in development limbo for quite some time, with only sporadic updates emerging. We’re referring to the War Machine movie, ‘Armor Wars.’
‘Armor Wars’ was initially envisioned as a film based on the comic storyline of the same name. It was intended to serve as a sequel to ‘Secret Invasion’ (released last year) and ‘Ironheart’ (whose release date is currently unknown). As far back as 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed the development of a War Machine film, with Joe Robert Cole brought on board to pen the script.
Nine years later, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was revealed that the ‘Armor Wars’ TV series is in the works for Disney+, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes. In 2021, Cheadle...

‘Secret Invasion’ premiered last summer, receiving mixed reactions. Despite criticism for its rushed and nonsensical adaptation of a popular Marvel comic storyline, the show garnered nominations for several smaller awards. Despite the show’s flaws, the cast delivered outstanding performances, leading to Don Cheadle winning the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actor in his role as James Rhodes. Rhodes’ storyline, revealing him as a Skrull, was somewhat predictable, with suspicions arising even before the show’s release.
Additionally, Sherri Shepherd hosted a gala event recognizing talent across 20 categories. Cord Jefferson and Ava DuVernay secured Image Awards for outstanding screenplay and best director respectively. ‘Abbott Elementary’ received two awards, alongside other successful productions such as ‘The Color Purple,’ ‘Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.’ Notable winners also included Chloe Bailey, Ayo Edebiri, and Keith Powers.
Shepherd was honored with the Outstanding Talk Show Host Award, thanking everyone for her journey.

‘Secret Invasion’ was released last summer and the reactions to it were mixed at best. The show failed to properly adapt a famous comic storyline and was widely criticized for being nonsensical and rushed. Still, this didn’t mean that the show wouldn’t be nominated for plenty of smaller awards. Despite the criticism of the show, the cast remained superb and due to that Don Cheadle in the role of James Rhodes recently won the NAACP Image Award for best supporting actor in the show.
Rhodes was part of a somehow predictable twist that he was a Skrull all along, something that was suspected even before the show was released.

A federal judge in Philadelphia has ordered Terrence Howard to pay a penalty-heavy $1 million in back taxes — a skirting of payment that the actor justified in a voicemail to an official where he asserted that it’s “immoral” for the government to tax the descendants of slaves.
The Academy Award-nominated actor has been pursued by the Justice Department for over a year for non-payment of a $578,000 income tax bill covering what he owed from his 2010-2019 returns. Howard, 54, has not responded to the DOJ or turned up to hearings, so on Feb. 22, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Found in favor of the federal government and leveled a $903,114.72 judgment against the actor. That figure accounts for unpaid federal income tax assessments, penalties and interest for the 2010, 2011, 2016, 2017 and 2019 tax years, according to the judgment obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, and accrued interest up to December of 2023 — which has and will continue to pile up until Howard pays.

Marvel Studios has a myriad of projects either scheduled for release or in development over the next few years. Amidst the progress of most of these projects, one film, ‘Armor Wars,’ has lingered in development for several years, revealing only fragments of its status.
Originally envisioned as a movie based on the comic storyline of the same name, ‘Armor Wars’ was slated to be a sequel to Secret Invasion (released last year) and Ironheart (release date unknown). In 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed the development of a War Machine film, with Joe Rober Cole hired as the writer. However, nine years later, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, it was revealed that ‘Armor Wars’ was being adapted into a television series for Disney+, with Don Cheadle reprising his role as James Rhodes. In 2021, Cheadle announced that the series would enter production in a few months.
In August 2021, Yassir Lester became the head writer for the series.

At the risk of being hyperbolic, 2023 has been a pretty terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year for Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered its biggest box office flop ever with "The Marvels"; the "Secret Invasion" series was the worst-reviewed MCU entry ever and drew middling viewership; and audiences mostly shrugged off "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," along with its attempts to tee up interest in the McU's Multiverse Saga. That's on top of all the bad buzz from reports about the House of Ideas' behind-the-scenes woes, the departure of longtime Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso, and the general opinion that Marvel Studios has released too much of questionable quality too quickly of late, even by its standards.
Naturally, however, all of this pales in importance compared to the Jonathan Majors situation. What was once set to be the "Lovecraft Country" and "Creed III" actor's big year came grinding...

The next Avengers film, The Kang Dynasty, has lost its Kang – and it might lose its title next. More here:
On 18th December, Jonathan Majors was convicted of two misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault in his court case against ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. Majors’ sentencing will happen in February 2024, and he faces up to a year in prison. Marvel dropped Majors from the role of Kang The Conqueror in the MCU immediately after the verdict.
Kang was posed as the next big bad, a Thanos-level threat that would tie the Multiverse Saga together. The next Avengers film, which is currently slated for a 2026 release, was subtitled The Kang Dynasty.
Marvel hasn’t commented on what it plans to do with the character yet, but it seems as though it’s considering changing the title of the film all together.

Jonathan Majors is out at Marvel Studios in a stunning career blow for the once-rising actor.
On Dec. 18, a Manhattan jury found Majors guilty of reckless assault in the third degree and guilty of harassment following a two-week trial that stemmed from a March incident between the actor and his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari.
Before his March arrest, Majors was positioned as the key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the Disney-owned studio building its entire current story arc around Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. [Update: This article has been updated with the announcement that Disney/Marvel have fired Jonathan Majors following the verdict. Additional information follows the initial reporting.]
After an estimated four hours of deliberation over the course of three days, a New York jury has found Marvel and "Creed III" star Jonathan Majors guilty of harassment and assault in the third degree as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Majors called 911 on March 25, 2023, claiming that he had found his former partner Grace Jabbari unconscious in their apartment, and was arrested after police discovered Jabbari had an injured finger and a laceration behind her ear. Majors was facing four charges of assault, aggravated harassment, and harassment. He pled not guilty to all charges.
It's important to note that Jabbari was not the person who brought the charges against Majors, but rather the state of New York through a criminal trial. As THR notes, this means "the burden of proof is higher for the jury who had to find...

‘Secret Invasion,’ currently the latest MCU series on Disney+, debuted in June and aired on the streamer for six episodes. Although the series sounded promising from the start with its grounded political thriller premise and more serious and mature approach, the series turned out to be a disappointment, particularly after the last episode. Don’t get us wrong, the series wasn’t all bad, but as we always like to say, it could’ve been better.
The series killed off two characters who had a close personal relationship with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, who was a part of the franchise since 2012, and Talos, a Skrull general whom Ben Mendelsohn played since his MCU debut in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel.’ While these deaths could’ve been justified if used for Nick Fury’s motivation and further character development, the sad news is that, ultimately, these fan-favorite characters died for nothing.

Newly released images prove a significant problem with Marvel Studios' summer Disney+ series Secret Invasion.
It's no secret Samuel L. Jackson's MCU series was a failure among critics and fans. Not even a stellar cast could save a forgettable waste on an iconic comic book run.
Part of the reason fans disliked Secret Invasion was due to the studio deciding to retcon the last few MCU appearances by Don Cheadle's James Rhodes by making him a Skrull.

The latest series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ‘Secret Invasion,’ concluded this week after six episodes. The episode finished with G’iah becoming one of the most powerful MCU characters thanks to the Harvest and Gravik’s machine that transformed into a Super Skrull. She defeated Gravik and freed all his human prisoners, including Colonel James Rhodes.
One of the plot twists the series provided was that James Rhodes had been Skrull all along, but the series didn’t reveal when was the real Rhodes kidnapped by Skrulls and replaced with one of their own. We found out in the series that the Skrulls have been present on Earth since 1995, and that’s a pretty long period when the real Rhodes could’ve been kidnapped.

Los Angeles, July 27 (Ians) The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s spy-thriller series ‘Secret Invasion’ has come to an end, the finale of the show is likely to set up the ‘Armor Wars’ storyline from the comics.
With its twist ending with regards to the War Machine, it could lead to a more faithful adaptation of the comic-book story of ‘Armor Wars’ story.
The original story of ‘Secret Invasion’ in the comics is vastly different from the one shown in the MCU, as the comic one is a crossover storyline that features many heroes such as Iron Man, Spiderman, Doctor Strange, Professor X, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Daredevil and many more teaming up to defeat the Skrull invasion after the Kree-Skrull war where the Skrull homeworld was in fact eaten by the planet eating god called Galactus.

One of the things that we saw in the finale of ‘Secret Invasion’ is that there were still a lot of different issues that were left unresolved, as it is clear that the series’ story will be explored in a different project in the future, especially because there are still stories that need to be told regarding the state of the world. We know that President Ritson left the world in a worse state due to his announcement regarding the Skrulls. As such, the world became paranoid.
We also know that one of the movies that will be released in the future is ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ which will push Sam Wilson into the spotlight as the new Captain America. And we just recently learned that the ending of ‘Secret Invasion’ actually sets up the events of ‘Brave New World.’ That said, let’s look at what we learned.

Seemingly over before it had even started, Kyle Bradstreet’s Secret Invasion has rolled the credits on its six-episode miniseries. Pitched as the long-awaited Nick Fury standalone for Samuel L. Jackson’s Marvel Cinematic Universe staple, we were warned this would only loosely adapt the 2008 comic arc of the same name. Still, did anyone expect things to go down quite like that?
With just six episodes and an average runtime of 40 minutes, critics feel that things were rushed toward “Home.” Rounding off the stories of Fury, Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), and G’iah (Emilia Clarke), as well as shoehorning in Super Skrulls And setting up Nia DaCosta’s The Marvels and Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World was a lot for just 38 minutes (including credits).
With the writers throwing the kitchen sink at the Secret Invasion finale, it makes sense that a seemingly glaring plot hole slipped through the net.

The mettle of a leader is tested in the toughest of times, and the penultimate episode of Disney+’s Secret Invasion highlights that through the roles of the now-deceased Talos, a determined Fury, and a restless, desperate Gravik. After the Skrull crisis reached its worst state in the previous episode, with the terrorist Skrull leader Gravik leading his operatives into an attack on the convoy of United States President Ritson while posing as Russians, the situation went haywire at both the Skrull and human fronts. Colonel James Rhodes, who was so far acting as P.O.T.U.S.’ Chief of Staff, is revealed to be a Skrull operative named Raava, whose deliberate inaction resulted in the ambush.
The arrival of Fury and Talos to aid the human forces spoils Gravik’s plan, and Talos sacrifices himself while saving the President’s life. In the previous episode, viewers also saw...

‘Secret Invasion’ Episode 4 Recap & Review: Did Either Talos Or President Ritson Survive At The End?
After a rather timid third episode that mainly acted as a filler, exposing the traitors from both sides of Fury/Talos’ resistance and Gravik-led rebel Skrulls, the fourth one once again addresses the threat to the sovereignty of the world governments that the Skrulls represent. The hierarchy of the United States government suffers a major setback as even more shocking revelations are made about the Skrull infiltration, but somehow the feeling is bound to creep up in fans’ minds that the event could have taken advantage of a big-budget movie adaptation instead of basically being a Nick Fury show. In the previous episode of Secret Invasion, Nick Fury’s Skrull wife, Priscilla/Varra, turned out to be in cahoots with Gravik, something Fury has started suspecting.
While helping her father, Talos, stop the attack on the U.N. envoy, G’iah’s treachery gets exposed to Gravik, who shoots her to death.

The MCU is pretty dang low on Avengers right now, but one theory surrounding Marvel’s new Secret Invasion series is that it’s about to bring back a lost member of the Og team.
While it might seem pretty “out there”, the idea could solve a few of the MCU’s current issues, some of which arguably began when the 2019 blockbuster Avengers: Endgame brought the Infinity Saga to a box office-slaying climax and killed off big hitters like Tony Stark/Iron Man and Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.
The mantle of Captain America was passed from Steve Rogers to Sam Wilson, Bruce Banner went off to have some family-related Hulk adventures, and a massive new MCU saga soon got underway. Sam became the focus of his own TV series, as did Avenger Hawkeye, while Thor went on to lead another big budget movie in Thor: Love and Thunder,...

Warning: Spoilers for Episodes 1 and 2 of Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” below.
“Secret Invasion” director Ali Selim praised Samuel L. Jackson and Don Cheadle for their work in the restaurant scene in Episode 2 of the Disney+ series, in which James Rhodes confronts Nick Fury about the explosion in Moscow at the end of Episode 1.
“Don Cheadle and Sam Jackson had wanted to work together for years and never had and they had a meaty lengthy scene together,” he told TheWrap. “That was one of the highlights of my career just to watch them work.”
During a press conference earlier this month, Cheadle teased that Rhodey is more of a “political animal” than fans have seen in the past.
“He’s been more of a military man, but now he’s sort of, in some ways, a right hand of the president and this special envoy, in that regard,” he explained at the time.

It isn’t that I don’t enjoy a good superhero show or movie, but I like it when Marvel gets playful with genre. It’s the reason I always say that my favorite film in the MCU is the first 45 minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the part that’s basically a ’70s conspiracy thriller, before the action gets bigger and the tone becomes more conventional. I loved WandaVision at its meta-sitcom-y peak and thought Hawkeye was most charming as Marvel’s explosive take on a Hallmark holiday film.
So when the logline for Secret Invasion, Disney+’s latest six-parter, suggested a paranoid Cold War drama with a backdrop of conquering lizard-aliens, that got my pulse racing a little.

A new clip from the upcoming Disney+ mini series “Secret Invasion” was released online Thursday, and in addition to the espionage-related paranoia and suspicion featured in the clip itself, it also gave fans a chance to do some spycraft of their own just to watch the thing.

Instead, Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account asked fans to decipher a mystery board that revealed a password to the site “theinvasionhasbegun.com,” allowing them to unlock an “encrypted” file on the site.

In the early part of the 2000s, Terrence Howard was on the cusp of major stardom. He’d been around since the mid-nineties, stealing scenes in movies like Dead Presidents, Mr. Holland’s Opus and The Best Man (which spawned a legit franchise). But, it was his role in Paul Haggis’ Oscar-winner Crash that led to many saying he would be the next great actor of his generation. His role in the Sundance break-out Hustle & Flow was a sensation that nabbed him a (well-deserved) Oscar nomination, and he followed it up with excellent character work in Four Brothers, The Brave One, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, and more. But, his role as James Rhodes in Iron Man promised big things to come.
At the time, no one knew the film would kick off the MCU, and he was well-positioned, with his character slated to become War Machine in the sequel.

After an unimpressive start to Phase 5 with the third installment of the “Ant-Man” franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be in dire need of a course correction, and what better than an alien espionage thriller to resume their comparatively successful small-screen journey duly presented by the trailer of the upcoming series “Secret Invasion”? The first MCU TV series of phase five, “Secret Invasion,” has the potential to be a game changer, as it offers a much more grounded, political take on some key aspects of MCU lore, something from which the franchise notably benefited during the “Captain America” movies. In order to understand all the hints and Easter eggs that were presented in the trailer, we will briefly go through it once and try to break it down based on our observations.

The latest trailer for the upcoming Marvel series Secret Invasion has dropped, building even more anticipation for the Nick Fury-led series.
Marvel’s Secret Invasion will be a major turning point for the Nick Fury character, who has up to this point not had his own true showcase. Fury has certainly seen his share of loss and pain, which will play significantly into the series. On Secret Invasion, star Samuel L. Jackson said, “We don’t know who’s a friend, who’s the enemy…There’s a political aspect that kind of fits into where we are right now. Who’s okay, who’s not? What happens when people get afraid and don’t understand other people? You can’t tell who’s innocent and who’s guilty in this particular instance.”

For the past several months, details about the Disney+ series Secret Invasion have been kept, well, secret. All we knew was that the show’s story would put Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury front and center for the first time, and tell an espionage tale involving the Skrulls, the shapeshifting aliens MCU fans first met in Captain Marvel.
But a recent Vanity Fair article has the intel, indicating a story that goes right to the heart of the Marvel Universe, shaking things up in a way that Thanos and Kang never could.

We see recasts pretty regularly on the big screen. For some franchises like Friday the 13th and Halloween, it’s almost a tradition. It’s less common in a non-genre arena. However, other major films have seen some of their important characters get recast for various reasons. Here are a few of them:
Back to the Future: George McFly and Jennifer
Two roles were recast in Back to the Future: Part II. The first recast was that of Jennifer who in the first film is played by Claudia Wells and then in the sequel is played by Elizabeth Shue. Not only did Shue replace Wells in the sequel, but all the flashback scenes to the first film were re-shot with her to make it make sense. The recast here was due to Claudia Wells taking a break from acting to go take care of her mother who had been diagnosed with cancer.

On stage, drag artist Aphrodite Banks is a femme fatale: Caked in war paint, with a waterfall of braids whipping around her waist, she’s possessed of the white-hot glare and forthright confidence to match her Amazonian height and bearing. Off stage, as Jules, he’s simply femme: that term for gay men who present or express themselves in a more feminine way, too often used as a slur or a dismissal even by their community brethren. (Open up a cruising app like Grindr and see how frequently “no fems” comes up as a requirement.) The former identity connotes swaggering strength; the latter, to many, delicate weakness. How those associations and stigmas battle each other in one man’s body is the driving conflict in “Femme,” a tense, sometimes startling revenge drama from British freshmen Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping.
