With car dashboards eliminating CD inputs and relying more on smart displays and smartphones, podcasts — both music-related and others — are increasingly becoming big players for a captive mobile audience. In a recent Nielsen Podcasts Insight Report, the number of homes that considered themselves “avid podcast fans” went from 13 million in 2016 to 16 million in November 2017.

He was part of the pioneering hip hop collective Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, the first rappers to be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Now Kidd Creole is in jail for allegedly stabbing a homeless ex-con during a late night scuffle on the streets of Manhattan. His tumultuous life had taken him from thrilling crowds at Madison Square Garden to making ends meet by working odd jobs as a security guard and handyman, but few could have predicted his descent into murder.
Kidd Creole was born Nathaniel Glover Jr. on Feb. 19, 1960, and grew up in the south Bronx.

Earlier this year, El-p and Killer Mike teased that they were remixing their fantastic album Run the Jewels 2 with feline sounds, essentially creating the world's first cat-rap masterpiece. A lot of people obviously thought they were joking, since remixing an entire album with cat noises would be an arduous process, as well as a bizarre way to spend one's time. Well, we were wrong: You can download Meow the Jewels here. I, for one, welcome our feline overlords. Here is the track listing: 1. Meowpurrdy [ft. Lil Bub, Maceo, Delonte and Snoop Dogg] (remixed by El-p)2. Oh My Darling Don't Meow (remixed by Just Blaze)3. Pawfluffer Night (remixed by Zola Jesus) 4. Close Your Eyes and Meow to Fluff [ft. Zack de la Rocha] (remixed by Portishead's Geoff Barrow) 5. All Meow Life (remixed by Nick Hook) 6. Lie, Cheat, Meow (remixed by Prince Paul) 7. Meowrly (remixed by...

The MTV Video Music Awards wasn't the only thing poppin' in Brooklyn this past weekend. An estimated 30,000 people turned out for the 8th annual AfroPunk Fest.
The two-day festival, which took place in Commodore Barry Park, is touted as "the other black experience" and celebrates a wide range of music (punk, hip hop, rap, pop, reggae, indie rock, etc) -- along with fashion and food.
The festival's organizer, Jocelyn Cooper, summed it up nicely to Here & Now radio station: "We describe AfroPunk as a free space for African Americans — and anyone else who wants to come onto that space — to just be who they are, and not being defined by monolithic definition of what, sort of, the outside culture puts on us as African American people."
Attendees got to rock out to performances by Jada Pinkett Smith and her rock band Wicked Wisdom, hip hop legend Prince Paul and those...

Following the success of Killer Mike’s El-p produced album “R.A.P. Music” the duo decided to produce a full length album together, this time with both emcees rhyming over El-p’s sonic creations. Obviously this is a very good turn of events but what takes this from being a good thing to a superb thing is the fact that they have decided to give the album away free. If you go to their website and give them your email address they will email you a link to download the whole album (lyrics and liner notes too!).
The album is being released on Fools Gold Records and if you want to buy a physical copy there are a number of packages including CDs, vinyl and various merchandise. El-p and Killer Mike are currently touring the album across the Us and will hopefully take the show...
