Sims reflected on the start of their reality TV journey. “For me, I’ve been pretty open on social media, on my Instagram,” she said. “Matt used to not like all my videos and having to take a lot of pictures and stuff, but I wore him down. He got used to it. But a good friend of mine, Datari Turner, was like,...

As the calendar flips from April to May, audiences may feel the affects of last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes bite deeply. May is the traditionally the first month for summer blockbusters to start making their way into theaters, and while titles like “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” and “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will bow in cinemas this month, the release schedule is certainly lacking compared to years past.
The good news is, there are plenty of new streaming titles coming to various platforms this month to help you stay entertained! The Streamable has compiled our list of new titles coming to streaming this week, and we’ll be here each week in May to help you find something awesome to watch every day.

“I was blown away from the first script I read,” admits triple threat Oscar, Emmy and Grammy winner Common about his initial reactions to the labyrinthine plot and setting of sci-fi drama “Silo.” For our recent webchat he adds, “I was like, ‘thank you God that they are even considering me for this role.’ And when I got to meet with Graham Yost and then eventually got the call that I was chosen for the role of Sims, I was like really in gratitude. This is one of the best characters that I will ever play,” he says, explaining further that “the crew we have, from hair and makeup to our camera crew to obviously set design, costume design. Man, I was like, ‘I am working with excellence!’ I don’t think I’ve been on a on a film or TV project where I looked everywhere, and it was just excellent,...

“This is not just a film that I’ve created a character and done and left. It’s a show that I am so involved in that I love it beyond anything and everyone,” says Rebecca Ferguson at Deadline’s Contenders TV panel for Silo. “It’s really thought-provoking, philosophical, psychological.”
She added: “We had one day where we weren’t really figuring out a scene … and we just stopped the shooting for 15 minutes … and we just talked it through, because we’re not rushing anything. This is the essence of this show. We get to the core of what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, in the most phenomenal setting.”

Tom Holland ventured into the entertainment business at a young age. Before transitioning to film, he built a career in theatre. His first significant stage role was the titular character in the West End production of the coming-of-age musical Billy Elliot the Musical in 2008. He previously starred as the best friend of the protagonist.

Madame Web was a huge disappointment for Marvel fans. It had an exceptional cast of actors, including Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Adam Scott, and Emma Roberts. On top of this, the film was an entire project centered in the world of Spider-People, and the last project to do something like this, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, was extremely successful.
Despite this, the film was severely criticized in every aspect. So much so, that it became one of the worst-doing films in Marvel history, even having a budget of only $80 million.
Madame Web
While these unfortunate predispositions may lead to the film having no chance at having any future parts, fans have come up with the perfect plot for its sequel. Interestingly enough, it completely relies on the film’s deceased villain and a character from Tom Hardy’s Venom.

It has been almost eight years since Disney partially gained the rights to live-action Spider-Man media, and for better or worse, through the expansive world-building of the MCU, the character has been redefined for a new generation of audiences ever since. Whatever shortcomings the MCU counterpart of Spider-Man may have simply pale in comparison to the horrendous, downright pathetic track record of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which consists of movies of major and minor Spider-Man-related characters. As a fan of the webhead, if you consider that Morbius (2022) was the lowest this unwelcome franchise could drop to, Madame Web will prove you wrong.
Aside from the ludicrous plotline, cringe-worthy dialogue writing, horrible characterization, poor acting, and generic screenplay, Madame Web suffers from an absolute lack of effort by the makers, who seemingly can’t be bothered to even try to make people care about it. It cannot be overstated how bad...

This post contains spoilers for "Madame Web."
When Marvel was in dire financial straits in the late 1990s, the company licensed the film rights to Spider-Man to Sony Pictures. When Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" became a gigantic hit in 2002, it was clear Sony would do whatever it takes to keep those rights in-house and never let them revert back to Marvel. There was simply too much money to be made with that character (and the literally 900-plus other Spider-Man adjacent characters they also had the rights to). Sony has since collaborated with Marvel Studios on the Tom Holland Spider-Man films, but until they figure out what the next official Spider-Man adventure is going to be on the big screen, the company is still contractually obligated to release a Spider-Man or Spider-Man adjacent movie every few years to retain those valuable rights.

You know a superhero movie is in trouble when even the “first reactions” from fan sites are scathing.
Now the critic reviews for Marvel and Sony’s Madame Web have been revealed (read on below), and the writeups are pretty devastating for the Spider-Man spinoff.
Madame Web is from director S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) and stars Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) as a New York paramedic who develops psychic abilities, with a script by Clarkson, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless and Claire Parker.
Johnson escapes most of the criticism, but everything else is getting skewered as the latest example of superhero movie fatigue meeting a genuinely disappointing film. Madame Web (which falls under the Sony umbrella) arrives just two months after The Marvels became the lowest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe title of all time, earning just $206 million. If the below reviews for Madame Web are any indication, it may open even...

From the moment the infamously bad first trailer dropped, we knew Madame Web was going to be an absolute vibe. But even putting aside lines about researching spiders in the Amazon right before the main character’s mom died, Dakota Johnson’s recent press tour for the movie hasn’t exactly helped this latest Sony superhero foray feel like a winner, either.
For example, while lauding director S.J. Clarkson during an interview with EW, Johnson shared this little tidbit about the way the film was shot: “I’ve never really done a movie where you are on a blue screen, and there’s fake explosions going off, and someone’s going, ‘Explosion!’ and you act like there’s an explosion. That to me was absolutely psychotic. I was like, ‘I don’t know if this is going to be good at all! I hope that I did an okay job!

Rachel Weisz in ‘Dead Ringers’ (Photo Credit: Niko Tavernise/Prime Video)
As a horror fan, I was delighted that 2023 not only delivered some top-notch genre films but also that there were enough directed by women to create a 10 best list. Women created a diverse array of horror from psychological thrillers to over-the-top gore comedy to creature features. They looked beyond just final girls to create fascinating, flawed, and sometimes deeply disturbed characters.
I measure progress not by how many positive female characters we get on screen but rather by the diversity and depth of the women driving the stories we see. Kudos to the female talent in front of and behind the camera that created these bold, original works in 2023.

About a decade ago, Zack Snyder developed a storyline for the DC Extended Universe that involved Bruce Wayne impregnating Lois Lane.
The subplot in which Batman cuckolds Superman was poised to unfold in “Justice League,” with Batman dying in the sequel and Lois raising their spawn with Superman. Snyder’s vision for Wonder Woman was equally unorthodox, with visuals featuring a superheroine who brandished the decapitated heads of her conquered enemies like an Isis jihadi.
Warner Bros. and DC Studios — which hold a firm grip on their intellectual property — rejected Snyder’s ideas, which were deemed “super creepy,” according to a source familiar with the back and forth. (DC declined to comment for this story. A representative for Snyder did not respond to a request for comment.) But in the next decade, artists and rival studios won’t need permission to create their own take on the characters.

Cameron Diaz is defending her Back in Action co-star Jamie Foxx’s on-set decorum following rumors that he made “everything miserable and that I was never gonna make another movie again because of him.”
Diaz appeared on a recent episode of Molly Sims’ Lipstick on the Rim, where she discussed working with Foxx, who experienced a medical emergency while filming on the Atlanta set of their upcoming movie earlier this year.

1984 was a good year for slashers. Not only did Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) claw his way onto the big screen for the first time, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) also burst through windows and slashed through teens in the franchise high Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. While Wes Craven was releasing his genre-defining classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, another iconic killer was crawling out of a snow-lined chimney. Charles E. Sellier Jr.’s Silent Night, Deadly Night treated audiences to Billy Chapman (Robert Brian Wilson), an ax-wielding mad-man dressed as a sinister Santa Claus. This exploitative film quickly sparked controversy from horrified parents worried that their children might glimpse the jolly gift-giver dishing out bloody punishment instead of holiday cheer. An avalanche of pearl-clutching soon followed, including angry letters and protests eventually resulting in Tri-star pulling the film after only a few weeks. Despite this chilly reaction, the film...

By now, everyone knows that Ezekiel Sims "was in the Amazon with Cassie's (Dakota Johnson) mom when she was researching spiders right before she died," but is that all we really need to know about the man who seems to be a major "Madame Web" villain? The power of an instantly popular meme goes a long way, so even once Sony's new Spider-Man spinoff hits theaters and reveals more about Sims, I'm pretty sure some of us will still remember him as the guy who Witawmmwswrsrbsd (for short).
Outside of his mysterious Amazon-set origin story, though, who is Ezekiel Sims? In the past couple of years, Reese Witherspoon took a hiking-filled girls trip in the Costa Rican mountains; Adam Scott fell in love with the country’s coffee; Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly went on an ayahuasca journey; Zac Efron filmed a Down to Earth With Zac Efron episode in an Alajuela Province sustainable commune; Emma Roberts eased into “the most beautiful reset,” she posted; Molly Sims, Netflix’s Scott Stuber and their kids zip-lined over the Tempisque River; and Natasha Lyonne, Freeform president Tara Duncan and Ronan Farrow rode horses on the beach. Other stars who have visited the country include Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus, Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon and Shakira.

Any longtime Spider-Man fans would be forgiven for sighing after watching the first trailer for Madame Web. Not because of its PG-13 horror tones or soap opera vibes (both familiar parts of superhero comics).
No, they cringe because of the movie’s big bad, Ezekiel Sims. Throughout the trailer, Dakota Johnson’s Cassandra Webb finds herself hunted by what appears to be a black-suited Spider-Man, whom she eventually recognizes as researcher Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). For most viewers, the trailer serves as their introduction to Sims. But fans of the Spider-Man comics might recall him from the days long before guys like Paul drove readers nuts.
Ezekiel Sims debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #30 (2001), written by J. Michael Straczynski and penciled by John Romita Jr.. Straczynski reimagined Spidey’s origin not as a fluke accident when a random radioactive spider bit Pete on the hand, nor even as a larger conspiracy.

Jena Sims, wife to Brooks Koepka, a professional golfer in the Liv league, caught social media’s attention when she showed off her revealing outfits at The Ryder Cup.
The Ryder Cup, the biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States, takes place from September 29 to October 1. Teams are comprised of more than 24 players, plus team captains. The competition is not just known for the ferocity between the nation and continent, but also between the spouses of the players on the two teams.
As the many players’ spouses make their way to Italy to cheer on the USA, Sims has appointed herself responsible for providing the content of the weekend.
Sims already made a name for herself at the PGA Championship. At the tournament, held by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America in May, Koepka won his fifth major title. Sims was not in attendance,...

Featuring an exciting and eclectic cast, including Rebecca Ferguson, Common, David Oyelowo, Rashida Jones, and Tim Robbins – Apple TV+’s Silo is one of this year’s must-see offerings in the world of streaming. Juliette has finally accessed George’s hard drive. And what’s in it is unlike anything she ever imagined. It’s surreal and scary to think that there might come a time when our future generation would be as taken aback as Juliette to see the blue sky and the green trees and grass and birds flying, that too on a screen—things that they have no idea about and yet what we all opened our eyes to after being born. We do not want that future. Coming back, we have reached Episode 10, aka the season finale of Silo, and it’s do or die for Juliette Nichols. Or is it do and die?

From working at Mechanical to becoming a fugitive on the run from the Judicial, Juliette Nichols has come a long way. And all of this because her lover left her a hard drive. If you take a moment to think about it, all of this is happening inside a metal structure that is now storing the only humans alive on Earth. It’s surreal. Only one episode remains after this, and we have no idea what secret lies outside the silence that the judiciary is so desperately trying to keep. But Episode 9 shows Juliette finally being able to see what’s on the hard drive. It’s not much, yet it’s a lot.
Spoilers Ahead

Juliette has escaped, and this is very bad news for Bernard. While Sims is losing his mind over where to look for Juliette because he is answerable to Bernard, Paul is filled with regrets.

Transforming Disney’s award-winning animated feature “Encanto” into a live experience at the Hollywood Bowl in front of an audience of 17,000 people was no easy feat, with factors such as the pandemic, limited access to the venue and unexpected weather conditions all in play. But the production team, cast and crew pulled it off in under 72 hours, delivering a Broadway-quality experience.
Unlike a Broadway show, the original voice cast, scores of dancers and production team did not have the luxury of rehearsing at the Bowl. Gabe Turner, executive producer of the event, said, “We could only gain access to the Bowl for four days before we were due to welcome our dancers, orchestra and cast into the space.”
“This meant we really only had 72 hours where we had everyone in the same place, rehearsing and stepping through numbers before we were due to open doors,” said producer Sally Wood.

Episode 8 of Silo is all about Juliette and how she tries to find out what’s on the hard drive. But it isn’t an easy feat. Not only is the hard drive encrypted, but she has the Judicial desperately looking for her. Both of these prove that the hard drive contains sensitive information. Alongside this plotline, there is another one that revolves around Juliette’s mom, Hanna, and shows why she committed suicide. Both of these plotlines take the urgency of the story up a notch as we realize just how suppressive the Judicial is and has been.

Common discussed his role as Robert Sims in the Apple TV+ series Silo in his new exclusive uInterview.

A version of this story about the choreography of “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
As the old song goes, “Grease” is the time, the place and the motion — and the latter is provided for the Paramount+ prequel series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” by none other than Jamal Sims, the show’s choreographer and one of its director. The first hurdle was how to weave a new dance language with that of a film that pretty much everyone knows.
“It was really one of the films that made me want to be a dancer,” Sims, who as a choreographer has worked on everything from the Oscars to “RuPaul’s Drag Race” to “Encanto” to the “Step Up” franchise, said. “You know, we didn’t have a lot of musicals when it came out. And then to see...

This week on Apple TV+’s Silo, Juliette tried to make a deal with Judge Meadows — only to learn that the doyenne of Judicial doesn’t pull all the strings at all!
Juliette sought out Meadows after learning that Gloria Hildebrandt, the woman whose name was inscribed above George’s inside the Georgia picture book (and who we met in Episode 1, as the fertility counselor), now is in Medical’s longterm care facility, drugged out of her gourd. Juliette forces a meeting with the “sick” (drunk) judge after getting her address from Billings and then showing up at the door the next morning with breakfast.

Singing and dancing auditions over Zoom, shoots in the rain in Vancouver and filming during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic — none of that stopped the cast and creators from bringing “big Grease energy” to the set of the Paramount+ series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.
“Annabel [Oakes, showrunner] was the first to say, we should use Rizzo, we should use Stockard Channing as our North Star because she existed in that universe, it was big, but it was so grounded in truth,” says Conrad Woolfe, one half of the casting directing team behind Pink Ladies. “Rizzo was so grounded in something real.”

How do you even begin to reboot something as iconic as “Grease”? It’s no easy task, but “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” proves that it’s certainly possible.
The hit Paramount+ series takes audiences back to the 1950s — even further back than the original 1978 film did. Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson fell in love in the summer of 1958, but “Rise of the Pink Ladies” begins in 1954 as the girl gang that Bettie Rizzo would eventually rule is attempting to reverse their fortunes and rise to prominence in the halls of Rydell High School. The series expands on the lore that made “Grease” so beloved, and adds origin stories for several of the film’s most popular songs — while introducing a new set of tunes that are modern classics in their own right.

This is Juliette's story, and everyone else is just living in it.
Silo Season 1 Episode 5 dug deeper into the mysteries of the Silo, but it left us with more questions than answers.
We'll start with Marnes because it's very difficult knowing Juliette has to proceed on this mission to unearth what is truly happening without him.
Juliette understood Marnes wasn't all that fond of her, but they had a mutual respect for one another because they knew someone was killing innocent people inside the Silo.
Killing off Marnes so soon was another lesson that we should not become too attached to any of the characters because everyone is fair game, thanks to the cutthroat nature of the corruption in the Silo.
Sadly, Marnes went out while reeling from the death of the woman he loved, but you have to give some credit to Bernard for planning the ultimate smokescreen...

Till Episode 4 of Silo, Juliette at least had Sam with her for assistance. In the absence of Holston, Sam was the only one who was ready to listen to her and all that she had learned about the Silo from George. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. Sam succumbs to the attack. We have no idea who the person who killed him was or if anyone sent him to kill Sam. It is up to Juliette to find out. Also, we must remember that she needs to visit Martha. She has repaired George’s relic, the camcorder.

Welcome to Streamers on the Rise, where we find streamers who are growing their channels, content, and audiences in extraordinary ways. Each week we’ll talk with a creator about what goes into livestreaming–both on and off camera.
When DrGluon first joined Twitch nine years ago, he had no idea what to do.
“I didn’t come in knowing anybody on the platform, really, so I really started brand new,” he says. “Clicked ‘Go live’ and streamed to nobody for quite a while.”
In that way, he’s similar to a lot of our other Streamers on the Rise featurees, many of whom got their Twitch start much later than he did. Twitch has always struggled when it comes to creator discoverability, so DrGluon, like thousands of other streamers, had to figure out how to independently bring people to his stream.
For him, the formula was YouTube + The Sims + one very classy hat.
Dramas set in a post-apocalyptic setting, where the characters are locked in from the perils of the outside world, tend to come with the caveat they will move at a slow pace.
Silo Season 1 Episode 4 continued to solidify the fact that this Apple TV+ drama is the exception to that rule, delivering another intriguing hour that left us with more questions than answers.
Often, it's challenging to get on board with these settings, but Silo's strength is that it utilizes a smaller batch of characters, allowing for more nuanced storytelling.
It was evident Juliette and Sam would have to work together at some point, but I didn't expect it to be this soon.
Even at that, though, it's hard to tell what's going on with Sam because he's driven by the death of Mayor Jahns -- another obvious development.

Juliette has not even become the sheriff, and things have already started falling apart. Mayor Ruth is poisoned to death. George’s missing notes mean that either someone stole them, or someone has hidden them, which also means that bad people are looking for them. Episode 4 of Silo further shows Bernard taking over Ruth’s position as the new acting mayor, at least until the elections. And the guy is, from the looks of it, up to no good. Something is brewing inside the Silo, and Juliette has to figure out what before it’s too late.
