Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz are both public domain properties, and Netflix is bringing together the two main characters from those separate worlds to create a new and unique story.
The film project is called Dorothy & Alice, and the crossover will see the two characters team up for a “fantasy adventure epic.” The story follows Dorothy who is sent to a home for girls after experiencing terrible nightmares, and it’s at this home where she meets Alice.
According to Collider, Netflix has hired Anna Klassen to write the script, which was previously worked on by Justin Merz (Disney’s Rose Red). She confirmed that news on Twitter saying, “The Cheshire Cat is out of the bag. I’m writing Dorothy & Alice for @Netflix, a fantasy adventure epic. I grew up reading these books & this project has been endlessly fun to craft – to...

According to a new rumor, Disney is developing a new live-action Snow White spinoff film called Rose Red and they are looking to cast Captain Marvel star Brie Larson in the lead role. It seems like another role that she would be perfect for.
The story is a revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later moments of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarfs to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.
This is definitely an interesting and fresh cinematic approach to taking on the classic fairytale. There's no director attached to the project yet, but apparently, the studio is currently on the hunt for one.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a time-honoured story that’s gone on to become a fixture of Disney’s prestigious archive – but what of her sister Rose Red?
From what we understand, the House of Mouse has now hatched a live-action “companion piece” designed to tell the famous tale from the perspective of Rose, with screenwriters Justin Merz and Evan Daugherty – creative mind behind Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman – developing a revisionist take on the classic fairytale.
It’s still early, early days for the project, but tonight, we’re hearing that the studio has their eye on Captain Marvel star Brie Larson for the titular role. Though this scoop doesn’t come to us from Disney itself, it does make sense, given Larson’s connection to the House of Mouse via her involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Disney intended to expand upon the Snow White mythology, with a “live-action companion piece,” told from the perspective of the character’s sister, Rose Red – as depicted in the original Grimms’ fairy tales – to be written by Justin Merz and Evan Daugherty. Little more has been heard about that project, but that announcement has been somewhat overtaken by the news that an actual Snow White re-telling is now in the works, with Erin Cressida Wilson writing the script.
Disney has been mining the Snow White property for fresh material ever since delivering Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs in 1937. In addition to the high profile feature film projects, Mirror Mirror and Snow White And The Huntsman, Snow White has appeared in TV movies, TV shows, short films, theme parks, and a stage musical. This new feature film will be a live-action musical, with...

Suicide Squad: Reportedly, new footage for Suicide Squad is being shot right now with the goal of altering the tone of the movie to bring in "more of the lightness to which audiences responded" in an early trailer. The idea is to beef up "fun character moments and interactions." Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis star; the movie will open in theaters on August 5. [BirthMoviesDeath] Rose Red: Snow White's sister Rose Red will be featured in a new Disney live-action movie. The character originated in a German fairy tale that has nothing to do with the fairy tale adapted for the animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (above). Fairytale revisions are still all the rage in Hollywood. Yet another live-action take on Snow White's classic tale has just been picked up by Disney, according to THR. The script — written by Justin Merz — was originally focused on Rose Red, another protagonist from Grimm's Fairytale with no relation to Snow White. Until writer Evan Daugherty got an idea. I know, I know. You're rolling your eyes at the thought. But Daugherty has already tweaked the Snow White story before with Snow White and the Huntsman (which I really liked) and the upcoming The Huntsman: Winter's War (which I'm dying to see). He was also one of the writers on Divergent (another fave) and he's prepping the new Tomb Raider. All of that tells me that he's committed to giving ladies some kickass stories and this new Rose Red adaptation sounds like that's exactly what we're looking at. This time around,...

The week before Snow White And The Huntsman follow-up The Huntsman lands in cinemas from Universal, and we’ve got the news that Disney is going back into the Snow White business.
It’s got a film in the stove called Rose Red, the idea for which originally came from Evan Daugherty, who penned the two Huntsman movies. Justin Merz has taken over scripting duties, and the film will focus on the Grimm fairy tale character of Rose Red. The twist, though, is she’s now Snow White’s estranged sister.
Thus, the Snow White story is set to be retold, with Rose Red coming into the tale as the person who tries to break Snow White’s curse when she eats the poison apple.

Fans of Snow White are not going to pleased. Following on from The Huntsman: Winter’s War’s decision to do away with Kristen Stewart’s Snow White entirely in favor that film's supporting players, we’ve now learned that Disney’s own live-action adaptation will instead primarily revolve around Snow White’s sister, Rose Red, instead of the traditional heroine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has decided to pick up this project after being hugely impressed by a pitch by Evan Daugherty based on Justin Merz’s script. Usually overshadowed by her more famous sister, the character of Rose Red actually appeared in a number of The Brothers Grimm’s fairy tales. None of these were related to Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs, which Disney iconically brought to life back in 1937. However, while Justin Merz originally wrote a ...

With Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman" essentially taking out Disney's chance at a gritty, live-action revisionist take on their classic animated "Snow White" film, the studio has decided to adopt a different approach.
The studio has picked up both a script by Justin Merz and a pitch by 'Huntsman' script writer Evan Daugherty which reworks the tale. The story? A revisionist take which focuses on Rose Red, a sister to Snow White.
Though Rose Red is a character that appeared in Grimms fairy tales, it is in an adventure that had no relation to the more well known "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves". Merz's penned 'Red' as a stand-alone feature, but then Daugherty came up with a new take which makes the story closer and more of a "companion piece" to the animated "Snow White".
In the new take, Rose Red is now inserted into the Snow White...

Hollywood can't seem to get away from Snow White. In 2012 audiences were served with two movies about the fairy tale character: "Mirror Mirror" and "Snow White And The Huntsman." Four years later, we're getting a prequel to that latter film with "The Huntsman: Winter's War," which the marketing has made clear will tell us about the story before Snow White. Now, Disney is cooking up a movie that will be a sideways look at the character. THR reports that the mouse house is developing "Rose Red," which will focus on Snow White's sister. Hooray? The live action movie will come from the pen Evan Daughtery ("Snow White And The Huntsman," ironically enough), who took an original pitch by Justin Merz titled "Red" and tied it into the original fairy tale. (Hey kids, want to know how to be a success in Hollywood? Write something based on an existing property, or...

From the outside looking in, it must appear like American cinema is borderline obsessed with Snow White right now. There were the dueling films of Mirror Mirror and Snow White and The Huntsman a few years ago, a prequel to one of those called The Huntsman: Winter's War coming out in less than a month, and now THR brings word that Disney is developing a live-action film about Snow White's sister called Rose Red.
